Father, I write you this letters from the bowels of Ebonhawke, more than a little drunk. I'm not sure why I came here, or how I wound up sitting in the shadows of their Graveyard before putting pen to paper, or why I write at all really. Hopefully it's legible. Let's just hope that this doesn't foretell some greater end and some separatist with a mean streak doesn't get the drop on me while I am inebriated. I've made stupid decisions before, and I'm sure this will rank right up there if it goes foul. I just wanted to send this somewhere on the off chance it goes badly, I suppose, and to compose my drunken thoughts. I spoke with a Gladium I have formed some type of...alliance with, I suppose. I am loathe to call it friendship at current, but I would call him an acquaintance and, perhaps, an ally. We spoke on many subjects tonight not the least of which was the standing of...other species and Warbands. In your reply you said you couldn't really understand what I felt, and maybe it's more complicated than that. There are many who seem to think Vailynt and I are...in some sort of romantic entanglement. No matter how hard I deny they only seem to smile and nod and look knowing. It's left me to wonder what they see that I do not. I'm not sure I could bear those sorts of...feelings toward him. He is a good soldier and a good partner, but that is where the depth of our relationship often ends. Neither of us are particularly open. I am attached to him, I know that much; very much so, but I doubt our capability to hold some sort of relationship beyond what we have. I'm not even sure if I could be attracted to him. Maybe I'll find out when I look at him with new eyes. Trying to think of it in retrospect only leaves me feeling bewildered. There are other issues on such an. Affair. Do I want to involve myself in such things? Do I want to involve myself in such things with another race? And, of course, would he be interested in it himself? I have no answers to that yet. In fact I feel I have very few answers all together. I'll figure it out in time, but time with these matters is always at a minimum. Death could steal him, or someone else, before I can get my wits about me and decide what I want. I'll work on it. I've enclosed more missives to my Warband, and one for Vailynt as well. They include information on where I plan to head down here around Ebonhawke should you fail to hear from me again. I have no doubts that you'll be one of the first to know if something happens to me. You still have ears to the Ash Legion and I know it.
Your son, Kritach Hewnhammer
