Let’s just say, episode 9 changed my perspective of episode 5 and 6. It explains Ragatha’s behaviors towards Jax getting close with Pomni and she said “Jax is corrupting her”. I thought corrupting meant Pomni changing for bad, not literally

So she has been trying to protect her, to not let the history repeat

After all, she lost her friends because of JAX

I honestly expected some kind of call back to this. Like I hc these two had the highest alcohol tolerance or both already came to terms with not being able to be human again.

Either when all the others were shitfaced (funny) or frozen with despair (non-funny), Kinger would convince Gangle to help him gather up the others by say, “C’mon, we’re the most mentally stable and capable characters now. And they need our help.”

And Gangle is horrified for a moment realizing he’s right. Then they go fix shit.

Jax Apology Tour #1/?

First of my post-unabstraction comics where they manage to reverse the process, starting with Jax who abstracted last and thus was easiest to restore and now needs to awkwardly try to reintegrate into the circus after burning all his bridges and then dying. Fun!

Started with Gangle because she probably deserves it the most and I also hate drawing her and wanted to get it over with. I think Ragatha will be next, which I also find difficult but more interesting than swirl girl here. Pomni should have been first chronologically but this is what happened idk what to tell you

Thoughts on the relationship between these two and my take under the cut!

I feel like Jax and Gangle's relationship in the show isn't explored enough. Jax is clearly a bully and abusive to her, but it's also implied that they have more to their relationship? Jax knows things about her that the others don't, and they apparently always went on team adventures together. I know Goose said Gangle had a codependent bond with him but I feel like we didn't get to see it. I think some of her lines would make a lot more sense if we saw how that relationship came to be, but there's only 9 episodes, so... ok.

I think that to some extent Jax did believe that he was not "that bad" to Gangle but that he knows deep down that's not true. He seemed genuinely shocked that she came to his defense in episode 8 and I think that a lot of his coping mechanisms were failing at that point and he was having to face how much damage he actually did. I think seeing the mural she made would bring back that feeling and disturb him.

He has in the show questioned Gangle's ability to be happy and I think that he would have some thoughts about the mask gimmick but wouldn't say anything about it. Here he's both putting off an apology that needs to happen and also projecting a bit. He also has a mask that hurt and failed him but it's a lot easier to see that in other people.

I don't want to imply by the end of this that they're friends now and it's all good, but to show an acknowledgement of Jax's desire to change and Gangle's desire to coexist peacefully.

Art-wise, I am relearning everything after years of not drawing. New program, new methods, new everything. I need to work on colors, which I took from a screen grab but I feel are off. The rest might come with practice hopefully and I need to watch some tutorials for procreate. But mainly you learn by doing so I'm just...going for it.

Post some fantastical method of de-abstracting and deciding to come out as a trans woman, the question of "Will you take a new name?" comes up, probably posed by Pomni. Jax comes up with an awful, wicked idea:

Ask Gangle.

See, Jax gave Gangle her name and he did it to be mean, now Gangle has an opportunity to give her a mean name right back. Fair's fair, right? Except Gangle isn't playing along.

"C'mon, give me something really fucked, make it hurt."

"Do you think it'll make me feel better to be mean to you?" She'd ask. "Did it make you feel better?

"I feel like you're doing this for yourself, Jax, and I don't feel like giving you the satisfaction."

This response, of course, sends Jax for a loop, probably gets her to do that not-good hysterical laughing and she has to give it to Gangle for gutting her so thoroughly.

And then, before she leaves with that iconic poker grin of hers, Gangle does suggest a name, a nice one. Jax doesn't indicate whether or not she decides to go for it as the scene ends here.

OP I’ve had this very conversation rattling around in my heads for weeks!!

Because yes, Jax would absolutely try to make things even by bringing Gangle down to her level and letting Gangle hurt her back.

And, Jax would absolutely want to be named by Gangle as them naming each other would be proof of their ‘connection’ that Jax clearly wants but won’t say out loud.
