Warning all artists!

Whether you have heard of this blog or not, there is a blog going around called badartbukakke that reposts peoples art to make fun of it. This specific blog reposts art to make fun of it because it represents minorities (gay people, people of colour, etc.) and just mocks bad art that beginners make. Whether you think the art posted on the blog is good or bad, what they are doing is wrong.

First of all, the fact that they are reposting art and tagging it as rude of spiteful things like “tumblr style” or “representashun”(??). The fact that theyre reposting things that represent minorities and making fun of it is fucking shitty as hell, because the world isn’t filled with Caucasian, straight and cis people. People are different, people can be of colour or trans or fucking gay and making fun of people for headcanoning characters as such or making their ocs such is really fucking shitty.

Second of all, although they do give critiques sometimes! More than half of the time they just post the art without giving actual critiques, unless being requested. This doesn’t give the artist a chance to improve their art, instead just making them feel bad about it and not knowing what to do. They could always improve their methods by, instead of insulting the art, critiquing it.

As well as all of tat above, they repost it without credit, which is disgusting and rude and as someone who has had their art reposted many times, it drains an artist.

Please, dont give this blog attention. Please report them. What they doing is wrong and disgusting and they need to stop.

There’s something I want to say and please read it. It’s important to me and other writers.

I know that fics are often said to be stupid or whatever BUT IT’S OUR WORK, OUR TIME WE PUT INTO IT, OUR SMILES AND TEARS. And copying it is not okay.

COPYING SOMEBODY’S FIC IS JUST BAD

A few hours ago I was noted that somebody on Wattbad literally copied and pasted one of my shots into their work. And what is more - said it’s their own. People thought it’s theirs, people commented how great a writer they are, people actually believed bc they didn’t know it’s a fake. I hate to say that, but it’s just how it was.

I reported it, but what else can I do? Please, please understand and try to notice things like that. I know it may not be easy as there are so many fics out there, but if you see something like that, please tell the author so that they can act.

Scammer Targeting Tumblr Artists

The title says it all really. So if nothing else, please share and reblog this post to raise awareness for those that might be caught out - both artists and followers. For a TL:DR, please look at the bottom of the post

What is happening?

Right now, there is at least one person actively impersonating multiple artists across tumblr in an effort to scam their followers into paying for fake ‘cheap commissions’. The scammer will clone a tumblr, usually using a slight change to the url/account name to look like the real deal. They will then message people directly through Tumblr with messages along the lines of “Hey, i’m doing cheap commissions right now. DM me to get one”. Naturally, this is ends up just being a way to take their money without giving anything back in return.

Who does this affect?

Everyone. Simple as that. As long as the scammer in question works unopposed, they are free to spread their influence and continue to scam more people. Even if you haven’t been targeted yet, it does not mean you are safe or immune. Several artists have already fallen victim to this scammer, and I encourage any artists that have to reblog this post with the details of their affected account(s) and the ones the scammer has set up.

How can we stop this?

Tumblr, like many other social media platforms, seems to care very little about ‘minor’ occurences like this one, and despite reaching out directly to them over a week ago through multiple avenues of contact - they have refused to comment on the situation, provide a recommended response for users, or take action on behalf of those already affected. Despite this, there are still tools at our disposal that we can use to make this scam more difficult, and to increase its visibility to those within Tumblr staff that are required by policy to take action. Tumblr has the following to say on the topic of impersonation: Confusion or Impersonation. Don’t do things that would cause confusion between you or your blog and a person or company, like registering a deliberately confusing URL. Don’t impersonate anyone. While you’re free to ridicule, parody, or marvel at the alien beauty of Benedict Cumberbatch, you can’t pretend to actually be Benedict Cumberbatch. They then provide a link to this online form that you can fill out if you suspect someone’s identity is being confused. Unfortunately, this can only be filled out if you are the victim of impersonation. In other words, only the artists can fill this out legitimately. So, what about the followers and users of tumblr whom aren’t being impersonated? Our most valuable tool in this online platform is the platform itself. It enables us to spread our word near-virally across all the many sub-communities on Tumblr with remarkable efficiency for a user-driven system. We can take advantage of that effect to increase awareness of the situation. Even if you - the one reading this right now - aren’t an artist or don’t know an artist, the act of reblogging this post or sharing it directly with friends improves it’s ‘ranking’ in popularity increasing its chances to be seen by more people. We don’t need everyone on Tumblr to see the post for it to be effective, just like we don’t need the entirety of the human population of the world to be immune to a disease for that disease to be rendered ineffective or eradicated. If enough people are aware, the likelihood of pulling off a successful scam increases dramatically reducing efficiency to a point that it no longer becomes profitable to continue.

Why should I care?

It disheartens me to say this, but of the many artists I contacted directly over the past week to warn about this issue many of them refused to listen or dodged the responsibility with lines like;

“I’m not being impersonated, so it doesn’t affect me”

“I’m just one person. I can’t make an impact”

“I need to take care of my community. Other people can look after theirs”

This is honestly disappointing that so many artists or art-rebloggers care so little as to intentionally wave the responsibility of keeping their followers and fellow artists safe from this, that they cannot spare 10 seconds of their time to share an informative post. I’m not here to bash artists, but it is time that everyone takes responsibility for their own communities, and of those around them. Artists: You have a responsibility to ensure that your followers and fans aren’t being abused by someone who may impersonate you. If they succeed, your reputation will be damaged, and your followers will resent you. Your followers are also almost guaranteed to be following other artists meaning your efforts can spread beyond your own circle of influence, so don’t be naive when you think you have little effect. Followers: You have just as much responsibility to be aware of those that might try to scam you or your fellow followers. Don’t just sit in silence when you see something wrong: Ignoring the issue only makes it more resilient to our efforts to stop it. You are the vocal majority if you just use your voices to be heard!

TL:DR

A scammer is impersonating artists and scamming money from their followers under the guise of ‘cheap commissions’. If we ignore the issue, it will get worse. Every single person that reads this can afford to spend just 10 seconds to reblog and share this post. Those 10 seconds can save others from being scammed for hundreds of dollars. Reblog & Share

Ichigoangell has been caught stealing artwork, claiming the work as their own, and regendering the original artists characters, as well as claiming them as an OC. This user is also claiming to be “a self-taught artist, do art trades, and offer commissions.”

It is believed that the thief may be attempting to scam others into giving her money first and running with it, and/or selling other artists artworks illegally.

If these user is indeed 15 years old, they are actively viewing an adult content blog and therefore violating another one of Tumblr’s rules and guidelines.

It is possible this thief is running multiple blogs similar to this one. Please stay alert and report this blog for copyright violation, harm to minors, and gore and mutilation.

This is NOT okay, do ya`ll see how small and brittle the new nibs are?? I usually only draw in weekends (I don`t press hard either) and now I have to change them every 3 weeks.

Attention ALL artists!

You sure have seen this post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.

The magic word is Metadata.

Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.

There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!

I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.

Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to. Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.

Hello everyone.

So today I have sad news to bring to you, I’ve been plagied.

I had some messages there telling me if I made a game that I released lastly, knowing I didn’t I asked no and wanted to know why many people asked me this, then they gave me a link to the Facebook page of the company :

I looked on it, and directly saw the icon that is, quasi my little pigeons I animate bouncing, then I was like “ mmm … maybe they were inspired but they could ask for permission because it’s way too similar for my taste, it’s really like my animations” then I saw the videos and it was terrible.

You may already what I animate, but when I saw the video of the gameplay, I had no words.

All of my motions, bouncing animals, Dancing frames are exactly the sames !!

They totally copied my art !!!

So I contacted them, I wanted to be sure, they replied me that it’s for game and that my art is for animation so it’s not the same. Sigh

So I told my friends about it, many tried tu put messages to discuss with them, no success. Some even were blocked when they put proof of my work.

I’m lost, I didn’t sleep last night because of this, I contacted lawyers and got some explanation, so it’s still going but I have to deal with it and I wanted you to know my current situation.

I share this with you because I’m an artist, this kind of thing happen to us WAY too often and I want to act, for me, for you, for any artists on the internet!

It have to stop!

I have so many proofs on my blog, but also you know me and my art well.

I can’t let this pass and stay there.

All I wanted was just to spread happiness with my art, now some took all my dreams and hope to make money … but I’m fighting !

There’s this page that reposts a lot of artworks without mentioning or crediting the artist. They ignore all the comments that tell them to credit the artist and they even ignore the artist that tells them to give credits. Their captions are simply random spams of emojis without a logical correlation. They’re not just a reposter, they’re a thief too. They tried erasing the signature from an artwork and now they even started deleting comments and blocking people that tell them the artist. They responded to one comment asking to credit the artist just once, and their answer was this “😂😬”. They reposted a picture from SU Fake Episodes claiming it ad real and blurring the picture so the Fake SU Episodes logo could not be seen.

i'm not mad. adding a note in the tags or on the reblog can help keep assholes from diving over to hate in that person's inbox; it's important to talk about, but not adding any info doesn't say it's to be discussed - rather it implies strongly that it is a specific matter that needs to be dealt with. that's what i meant. since that's what the post's purpose is: calling someone out to have them dealt with. not discussion.

You are welcome to discuss and make your own post about this. Or talk to the author of the post because we have nothing to do with it. And we are not here to start unnecessary discourses and we can not take responsibility for all the people who see the posts, even though we condemn this kind of pathetic attitude.That's all.

There is this user of Tumblr named “Lili”who uploaded three drawings about mermaid on his own accounts：

He is plagiarizing my work! In this series of work he copied part of my work and modified them to be his own drawing, and according to his statements, these three pictures which plagiarized my drawings have been put for commercial use.

While this kind of behavior wouldn’t take much time to do and can get paid easily, this kind of dirty trick has greatly harmed my benefits. Worse still, this kind of misbehavior has always been and is now corroding my ardor for creation. And with no doubt, putting this kind of “work” into commercial usage would be a secondary damage to my feelings! And I am here to defend my own benefits!!!
