Maybe that’s because that’s how the writer envisions himself vs the love interest. Maybe he’s not confident in how he sees himself, but views the person he’s in love with as so much better than himself. Maybe the love interest isn’t so beautiful to the rest of the world, and maybe he’s a decent/good looking guy. What we see in movies isn’t objective, it’s still through the eyes of the writer and director.

I started out tonight angry and afraid. I’m ending the night on angry and hopeful. Or maybe angry and vengeful. Either way, the goals/results are the same. I want to tear down the establishment that oppresses me and and the rest of the public. I want to destroy those who work against our public interests for personal profit. And I want to recover the world from the disease of capitalism. Homelessness breaks my heart. Seeing people die of curable diseases breaks my heart. I want to end this.
