How to dress CUTE
in Winter…
(Very long and detailed post, get a hot drink or snack whilst you read and take notes :3)
Have you ever looked at images like ^^^ *This* and though… HOW, does one even dress like that ?! Well today I’m gonna show youuu. This is my complete guide on how to dress cute/coquette/dolly in winter :))
Now before we begin it’s important to mention that in the realm of cute winter fashion, there’s like 5 main core sub-styles I would say.
Coquette Winter Styles:
- Casual Winter Coquette (Casual, comfortable, easy wearing basic coquette style outfits)
- Chic (More elegant/grown-up outfits, usually featuring lots of black and straight cut silhouettes, limited patterns)
- Winter Princess (Also known as Winter Bimbo, usually all white/black/brown outfits, faux fur)
- Pink/White/Dolly (Pink and white outfits, lots of lace and dolly silhouettes, very girly)
- Y2K (An entire style all of its own, but there are girly winter outfits that have heavy Y2K themes in them)
You can blend all of these little winter styles in with each other and together or you can just dress in one or you can dress too. You can basically mix and match all of these together. Wear what you want and what makes you feel happy! <3
*And depending on your specific style, your winter style is going to adapt to that* what I mean by this is that if you are someone that really likes the girly elements to an outfit but prefer to wear all dark colors then obviously you are going to apply all of these winter tips but clothing items that are black or grey*
However, there is a general coquette winter color, palette:
Color Palette - (You can have any color palette you really want but… White, pink, cream, beige, brown, grey, icy blue, black)
Key Themes
When dressing especially cute for the winter time, there are KEY themes and specific visuals you will often see when looking at different outfits on Pinterest/TikTok, such as…
Key Themes -
* Light colors (A lot of these outfits feature light colors but some outfits are dark too! The light colors fit in beautifully with the snow and the colder weather, but the dark can be a great contrast too)
* Layering (All alt/fashionable winter outfits include layering. Why? Because it looks good and it’s great for keeping you stylish but warm!)
* Outerwear = The outfit (In a lot of these outfits you will see soon, sometimes the outfit IS the coat or jacket, it’s just accessorised up with different pieces)
* Block color outfits (Outfits that are all one color, i.e. all white or all black)
* Runway fashion (A lot of these outfits, especially the more winter bimbo style ones, take inspiration from 2000’s runway models and pieces)
* 2000s focused pieces (Like with most fashion styles now, a lot of these wintery pieces and outfits are very 2000’s coded)
* J-Fashion pieces (A LOT, of these pieces you are going to see in this thread are J-Fashion pieces, meaning they are items that are typically sourced from Japanese fashion brands, which is usually why they are so unique and beautiful, they are not something you can typically find in a local store)
* Deer Print (A trend that started to get popular early 2022 and has popped off! It’s so cute and is typically worn in winter opposed to the decades long trend of Leopard Print or cheetah)
* Fluffy/Faux Fur (Nearly all of these winter outfits feature faux fur. Faux fur is a beautiful winter staple and material/texture because it hones in on the aspect of cozy winter fluffiness. It can be worn in a sexy, or more modest way!)
* White (White is a beautiful color to wear in winter because it’s a color so traditionally associated with the Holiday and festive season. White remind us of the snow, Christmas, snowflakes… etc)
* Pom pom’s (A lot of these winter outfits, clothing pieces and accessories like shoes and bags all feature pom poms, pom poms are typically seen in winter, I think it’s because they remind us of snowballs or elf shoes lol!)
* Lace (Lace is in all year round, but white lace is especially gorgeous this time of year)
* Decorative boots/legs (Winter is the best time to have the main focus of an outfit, be the footwear! Fluffy boots, leg-warmers, Uggs, a lot of the outfits you are going to see in this thread feature heavily dressed up calves and ankles, because if there’s any season to go crazy with the layering in footwear, it’s Winter! :D)

Now let’s build our Winter Wardrobe
Down below you will find different category’s, i.e Outwear, tops, shoes, with bullet pointed lists of every single winter item I can think of that fits into that category! (With photo examples ofc :3)
OUTERWEAR - (Coats, jackets, cardigans etc)
* Fur trim coats (These are typically coats that are plain fabric but have a faux fur trim, usually on the collar, the sleeves or the bottom of the coat)
* Fur coats (Coats that are fluffy all over!)
* Pea/Trench coats (These are more of a smarter option if you are going for that more elegant and chic look. They usually button up or have toggles)
* Capes (A personal favourite of mine, you can get full sized ones that wrap around you completely like a cape-coat, or you can get smaller ones, which are a beautiful addition to any outfit)
* Puffa coat (Super warm and cozy, you can get cropped or full length)
* Zip-Up jackets (You can get these in a variety of different styles. You can get some with fur hoods that are more of the Y2K style, or you can just get plain ones)
* Leather jacket (I think a black leather jacket is a staple in any wardrobe, they are more of an edgy clothing item rather than being cutesy in the winter time)
* Cardigans (You can get oversized ones or fitted ones depending on the style you like, fluffy ones are super warm and cozy)

TOPS - (Sweaters, shirts, etc)
* Oversized Sweaters (A staple in every winter wardrobe, because these can be paired with many different things, you can get fluffy ones mohair, cable-knit. A good chunky oversized cardigan is a must in any winter wardrobe.)
* Off the shoulder sweaters (So cute if you’re prepared to be a bit chilly! :3)
* Sweater dresses (Or any heavy duty, sturdy winter dresses. Such a lovely item and something I forget about each year these can be paired under a beautiful coat with a pair of tights, etc)
* Long sleeve shirts (Once again a staple perfect for layering)
* Henley/Lace panel tops (These are very popular with the Y2K aesthetic, but you can also pair them great for a winter wardrobe if bought in light pastel colours)
* Babydoll knit tops (Similar to the Y2K Henley lace panel tops. These are ruched at the top with fabric that comes down very flatteringly over your torso)
* Y2K style hoodies/sweaters (Usually knit tight fitting jumpers with a hood)
* Tracksuits (If you take one thing away from this thread by yourself a tracksuit! No winter Dolly wardrobe is complete without a cute tracksuit set. You can buy Juicy Couture or any brand that makes you feel comfortable)

BOTTOMS - (Jeans, skirts, pants etc)
* Jeans (I recommend Y2K style tight fitting flares that are seen in the first image above. Light wash are perfect for lighter colour outfits but you can get them in any colour that you prefer)
* Knit bottoms (Think like tracksuit bottoms but without the tracksuit top. These are really warm and are a great substitute for leggings)
* Leggings (A practical staple in all wardrobes I recommend either grey or black)
* Knit skirts (Lots of these more Dolly inspired outfits have knit skirts, usually cream with pom-poms on)
* Denim skirts (A staple in any wardrobe in my opinion, they go with nearly everything)
* Pleated skirts (Once again another staple, you can buy them in any colour that you outfits match)
IMPORTANT NOTE: When wearing skirts in the winter style with a pair of cycling shorts underneath for those extra windy days or buy skirts that have in-built shorts in them!!

SHOES -
* Uggs (You can buy the real thing or look online for vintage bailey bows, or just buy knockoff ones there’s plenty online lol!)
* Faux fur boots (Super cute and something you will see on Pinterest a lot. A lot of Pinterest boots like the ones in the image above are from the brand Liz Lisa which are incredibly hard to get a hold of and find so I recommend going on AliExpress!)
* Snow boots (Once again you can buy the real thing or just buy knockoff ones from AliExpress there are so many different variations of snow boots in so many different colours)
* Fluffy boots (These have become such a trend in the last year and something I really love brown ones are the ones you will see the most often but they also do black-and-white ones)
* Demonias (A classic alternative fashion winter staple, you can once again buy the real thing, I think they still sell them, or you can buy knockoffs)
* Fold over boots (Something that became a trend this fall and are perfect for Y2K outfits you can get long fold over ones or ankle ones)
* Doc martens (A winter staple and are more fitting for an edgier look in my opinion)
* Mary Janes (A classic coquette shoe butter are probably something more suitable for not so cold days)
* Ankle boots (A flat pair of ankle boots are something you can never go wrong with!)

BAGS & ACCESSORIES -
* Y2K Pleather style bag (I recommend buying a pleather/PVC Y2K style bag. These go with absolutely everything and make any outfit look more detailed and put together)
* Fluffy bag (A cuter option is a fluffy bag or purse)
* Handbag (A staple handbag is something you can never go wrong with, just make sure it has space to fit all of your belongings in)
* Cross-body bag (For if you have a rather large coat on and you don’t want to carry anything lol!)
* Tote bag (Or you can go for a tote bag I recommend these for more casual outfits)
* Mini purse (If you don’t need to carry a lot and you want to feel impractical small purses can look super adorable too)
* Legwarmers - (THESE are a staple! I recommend airing leg warmers with every single shoe option whenever you are building a winter outfit. You can buy a pom-pom ones, fluffy ones, plain ones whatever you prefer)
* Earmuffs (A super cute winter accessory! You can get plain ones or decorated ones)
* Scarfs & neck warmers (Scarfs are perfect for adding layers to an outfit. You can also tie them in a bow! There are tutorials online :D)
* Gloves (fingerless and fluffy)
* Knit headbands (A super cute and underrated way of styling your hair, so 2010! :3)
* Hats (NOW is the time to go crazy with hats and there are so many options. I think you can go as bold or as casual as you want with the hats depending on the type of outfit you are wearing)
* Berets, newsboy caps (I personally love berets for a more classy look as well as newsboy caps)
* Hat & glove animal headwear (You know those all in one animal hat and glove combo, I used to wear these all the time when I was younger and I will definitely be bringing it back this winter!)
* Tights (Layering a patterned pair of beautiful tights with a pair of leg warmers and a decorative boot is chefs kiss!)
* Long socks (If you don’t want to go down the leg warmer option you can opt for long socks these also work great for indoors)
* Silver jewellery (if you are a gold person stick to that but I do love silver jewelry for the winter time, it just sparkles like the snow)
(I will be doing a separate post on where to buy all of these things)
