Łeba, POLSKA.
The Great Chinese Famine (1959–1961), during which an estimated 15 to over 40 million people died (estimates vary among historians), is widely attributed to the policies of Mao Zedong and the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party.
The famine was not caused by a single order to starve the population. Instead, it resulted from a combination of factors, including:
the Great Leap Forward, which imposed unrealistic production targets,
forced collectivization of agriculture,
widespread falsification of crop reports by local officials,
excessive grain procurement based on inflated harvest figures,
suppression of criticism and the government's failure to respond effectively as the crisis worsened.
Did people really eat their own children?
Sadly, there is well-documented historical evidence that cannibalism occurred during the Great Chinese Famine. Historians, drawing on government archives, eyewitness accounts, and local records, have documented cases in which people driven to extreme starvation:
ate the bodies of those who had died,
committed murders to obtain food,
and, in some instances, consumed their own children or exchanged children with other families to avoid eating their own.
These incidents were rare compared with the overall number of famine victims, but they are considered authentic by historians and illustrate the extreme conditions people endured.
And the meaning of 96 is "fuck off".
