Every episode Xena’s like “Gabrielle I’m putting you in danger. You need to stay behind. You’re the only thing in the world I care about, I couldn’t bear for anything to happen to you.” and Gabrielle is like “Xena I could never leave you. My world revolves around you and I’m completely devoted to you forever. I’m staying by your side.” And then Xena does a bunch of backflips and immediately kills the bad guy by kicking him in the crotch

Ok so they’re looking for vampires and Xena tells Gabrielle to stay hidden indoors while she hunts them down because it’s too dangerous or whatever and then as soon as Xena is gone Gabs immediately slips out and goes to a party and starts sexily dancing with two women who look suspiciously exactly like vampires and have a strange fixation on her neck. Fucking awesome I’d do the same thing

The thing I love the most about the Debt 1 & 2 is the way it just lets Xena look her worst. Up to that point we have seen her bad tendencies, we have glimpsed her capacity for violence, we have felt a bit of her anger. But it all came in doses that never completely eclipsed her being the hero of the story. For two seasons we have watched her gracefully kick evil ass, develop her relationship with Gabrielle and humanity at large and we have come to root and rely on her. Now, we get thrown into the middle of her darkest years. And there she’s…so ugly. She’s feral, insane, she’s cruel, half-animal. She kills with the efficiency of a plague and she fucks like a street dog.Theas are the only things she stays alive for. Watching the character I always expect to come running, kicking and flipping to save the day struggle to lift herself off the ground and walk was just so delightfully jarring.
