Only 10,600? He should’ve been at the club
I wish I lived in the world some of you guys lived in where Zarkon was making Haggar sandwiches and calling her ma’am and letting her beat him like the fucking dog he is.
(Elaborating on my own tags because like) Narti was! Objectively! More powerful than Lotor! She could have probably have strung him about like a marionette! But she didn’t, because there was a power dynamic that existed between them. Narti had the sharpest reflexes of anyone on the team, but she didn’t move aside when Lotor struck the death blow. And sure, I’ve heard people theorise that that’s because Lotor did it *for Narti’s good*, but how true can that really be? Surely, he would’ve attempted to convince *at least Acxa* that that was the case — but he didn’t. And Kuron’s case proved that the situation wasn’t unsalvagable. No, the truth is, Narti probably froze because that’s a common response in victims. Narti’s silence can be read as a byproduct of that too. (Personally I hc Narti as like, passively suicidal as well, so there’s that) Lotor has literally endowed Narti with *sight*. He has total monopoly over her, regardless of her actual capability. Hell! Arguably Acxa and Zethrid (and maybe Ezor, but her betrayal is not decisive or shocking as Acxa’s is, and she is not as strong as Zethrid) could have put Lotor down. And like yeah, I don’t think he had much control over Zethrid, but the other two…
Yeahhh, in some respects, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree (it’s no wonder Lotor contests this claim). Yes, Haggar was more powerful than Zarkon. Yes, Haggar fed his power with her literal life force. Yes, she could’ve killed him. But instead she, frozen in her putrefaction, dedicated her ‘life’ to furthering his. She was his servant in body and soul. Her ‘we’ is about as truthful as Acxa’s ‘we’. Zarkon sees Haggar as his subject. Lotor sees his Generals as his subjects. Rewatch ‘Shadows’.
Go check out the latest theme music I wrote for Haggar, and check out my sister’s Voltron rewrite, coming August 15th on Fan Fic socials everywhere!
Waves at you hi :) I like your writing about Amma and it's cool to see other people who also do oc x canon with honerva/haggar ^_^ hope your day (or night. depending on timezone) is going well!! -coranfucker95
Hiiii!! I saw you going through my posts about them!! And omg do you have your own ocxcanon ship 👀
I do ^_^!! Her name is Delta :) she's a druid with a Normal amount of care for her high priestess <3
Color timeeeeee
Already inventing headcanons for their relationship dynamics
Need to know Amma’s lore in general, but also like, specifically, the lore behind her budding relationship with Honerva… How/why did they meet, did it develop with friction or without, where is Zarkon throughout it all etc
Okay SO. Like it’s definitely just kind of a silly self-indulgent ship I just started drawing for based on their personalities, so I definitelyyyy do not have the whole story so this is just gonna be a Thought Dump. BUT 👆 Amma’s lore is from her original world, a universe I’m developing called the Greater Cosmic Ocean — she is a former researcher for a massive organization called the Exoplanetary Research and Containment Network, a corporate-colonistic organization that hides behind the front of ‘scientific exploration.’ When Amma’s research knowledge led her to begin to question them and their front, they exiled her to a small planet where she spent many years before escaping.
But anyways. (Disclaimer, I’ve only watched Voltron through once so my memory of its lore and everything that happens isn’t…QUITE as extensive lmaoo and I love stretching and reshaping canon boundaries anyways) If I were to put her fully into the universe of Voltron I would instead make her a human researcher that discovered the Galran Empire, but somehow was able to strategize to be able to move around more freely than a prisoner, or became useful enough to them to land herself on Zarkon’s command ship. At some point I imagine she’d have come into contact with the Blade of Marmora and started working towards getting out of the Empire and getting a little more aggressive in quietly attacking weak points or making calculation ‘errors’ that would massively hinder the Empire’s ability to colonize planets, but not before meeting “Zarkon’s witch.”
They definitely start out with friction, but Amma’s much more curious about Haggar rather than scared or disdainful of her, and wants to know how this person ended up where she is. I think she also quietly observes how other high ranking Galran military personnel treat Haggar — I think Zarkon’s generally extremely poor treatment of her extends to others’ perception of her as well, where Galran officials will make a ‘game’ of seeing how much they can antagonize Haggar before getting fried or Zarkon cracking down on them (which I think he rarely does, and never out of concern for her well-being.) Haggar doesn’t much like Amma, but I think tolerates her a little more than others because Amma has a much less sneery attitude towards her, and Amma’s still wary of Haggar and probably pulls much farther back from her after she develops the Komar, and even more when she revives Zarkon.
Later on, Amma manages to escape the Empire herself and spends time among the Blade of Marmora, but comes into contact with Haggar/Honerva again much much later on during the three years that Voltron and Lotor went missing, upon taking a solo mission to infiltrate Honerva’s ship. Cue big fight (because enemy lesbians need a Cool and Awesome fight 🙏 true fact) and probablyyyyy i think Amma ends up severely injured by Honerva and needing to be taken care of lest she die. Honerva chooses to save Amma and has some kind of internal struggle moment about choosing whether to blow up everyone forever or tell Amma what she remembers and what happened with Zarkon. Amma I think has a struggle about either returning to the Blade or letting them assume she died and staying with Honerva and trying to help pull her from her path of destruction. Ultimately they both choose to stay together and instead work to dismantle the remnants of the Galra Empire and so yayyyy we got old woman yuri 🎉 (Amma does find the Blade of Marmora again later on, she’s not losing everything she has forever)
As for personality compatibilities, the reason I thought Amma would match well with Honerva is that she has a very similar extremely strong drive for knowledge and learning! She’s also well-intentioned but not morally ‘pure’ by any means and can be quite ruthless in pursuit of her ambitions, as a reaction to being squashed down by others for much of her life. She also would eat Zarkon alive if given the chance ❤️
Okay okay wait what if 👆 Honerva nearly killed Amma and then healed her and they fell in love but Honerva hadn’t yet made the decision to fully leave the Empire or cease her destruction. Not because she doesn’t want to but because she doesn’t know how. So they have this kind of doomed finding each other irresistible thing going on but laying in bed together knowing that if this path continues one of them will most likely end up dead at the other’s hand. Until Honerva finds the strength and the bravery and the support in Amma to take her fate into her own hands. What then…
i think if amma ate out honerva it would be a genuinely spiritual worldview-changing experience for her aaaaand post
i think amma internally declared haggar her wife like two weeks into meeting her. was like "yuuuuuup that's my wife she doesn't really know that yet but i've been sabotaging all her least favorite commanders first. she doesn't know why she hasn't seen them in a week."
Is Prorok a fucking idiot, you don't disrespect the High Priestess like that.
And you openly disrespect her in front of Zarkon??
(Tags by @shadelorde) YES, that's actually pretty much exactly what Prorok does here; he attempts to undermine her in front of Zarkon in his quest for favour/glory. And once Zarkon dies, a certain Commander Sniv sends a handful of assassins on her tail. Also Lotor calls her a witch in front of everyone but Lotor *is* the Prince. The only ones who have respect for Haggar are Sendak and the Druids. (Also, 'bitch-I-mean-witch' is so true.)
A Klance fan hating on Allura: Ok look yasss slay girlboss and everything but I just can’t like her because they wrote her as racist to Keith. And Lance deserves better than a rebound!! Voltron genuinely doesn’t know how to write women. Btw Matt Holt is so complex.
A Lotor fan hating on Allura: Ohohoho *sips socialite champagne* now this is an area within which I have great expertise. ‘Cogito ergo sum’, as the great Jean Sartre once said. ‘I am, therefore I think’. You claim Allura cannot have abused and racially ostracised Lotor because she is ‘a genocided victim’ and he is a ‘genocider’. First of all, ‘genocider’ is grammatically incorrect; the phrase you are desperately searching for is ‘genocide perpetrator’. Second of all, ‘genocide’ is a social construct. And third of all, it is quite reactionary of you to weaponise Allura’s contextual identity and ‘character arc’ in order to construct your flimsy argument. Poof! That’s the sound of your figurative house of cards crumbling. Allura is a blatant racial purist who peddles reactionary, monarchist propaganda sloppily disguised as revolutionary praxis. Lotor, as demonstrated by what you refer to as ‘soft colonisation’ (I laugh, how absurd of you to assume colonisation is anything but monolithic, especially in a children’s show!), is a radical communist who seeks to upheave the systems of oppression that subjugate him greatly. The dichotomy between Allura’s monarchism and Lotor’s leftism is stark when you consider how Allura keeps the honorific ‘Princess’ intact while lacking her tangible Princesshood, whereas Lotor — even after his ascension to Emperor — remains extremely down-to-earth. Allura gets angry at Lotor for taking revenge against his colonisers (Alteans) and violently assaults him both verbally and physically. Shipping Lotura is therefore engaging in the fetishisation of the normalisation of the romanticisation of the localisation of the terrorisation of misandry.
Me and my best friend finding new and ingenious crack ships ever day. Shiro x Coran x Bii Boh Bi x Slav,,,,, you will always be famous to me
Zethrid wanting Throk dead does, on the surface, seem legitimate for her character in and of itself, but like. Zethrid is a decent enough strategist to understand why Lotor would want a scapegoat. I don't think she wanted to do violence for the sake of violence here; I think she wanted vengeance.
So, to build off of this,
when the Generals face the Paladins, Zethrid angrily spearheads the attack. She targets Allura (a genocide victim) specifically, and uses language that positions herself as dominant (this is, contextually speaking, inherently racialised) in order to armour her attack.
Zethrid's attempt at finishing the job, so to speak, directly mirrors her earlier encounter with Throk. It's appropriate to read her anger as the outlet she expresses her wish to reverse racial power dynamics with.
Acxa actually implies this in 'The Grudge' too, lol:
okay my pitch. i think honerva and trigel mightve had something.. when voltron went into the quintessence field the green lion was the one to grab honerva + also during the mindscape, trigel was like. looking at the sunset longingly at one point while discussing honerva -coranfucker95
The Green Lion being most closely suited to Honerva's temperament as well (intellectually curious), and Trigel saying this...
Oh yes, I see your vision.
Not to mention: in a fucked-up way, Honerva kind of soul-bound them together.
Please understand, Allura cannot be racist to Keith.
I just wrote all of this in a reblog of the post itself, but I think it's important that it goes in the main tags as well. There's a poll asking if you think Allura is racist to Keith.
It is very important that you all know it is literally impossible for Allura, as an Altean, to be racist to Keith, as a Galran.
Racism is a system, and when someone is racist they are engaging in a system in which one group of people have oppressive power over another group.
In VLD, the Galra are the dominant force in the universe. They executed a genocide of Allura's people. She cannot be racist against them because there is no system in existence in which Alteans are oppressing the Galra.
Even interpersonal racism is connected to and engages in this system, so even at the interpersonal level, Allura cannot be racist to Keith. That's just not how it works. The system does not exist.
As it is written in canon, Allura is prejudiced towards Keith. But that is not the same as racism and certainly does not carry the same weight considering her history.
Furthermore, that entire storyline was exceptionally terribly handled by the writers, and it's end result was ultimately actively harmful.
It perpetuates false ideas of racism that are actively used against real life racialized people, and frames the pain of a genocide survivor as petty, mean girl behavior.
I wrote about this more here [link].
Stripped of her autonomy as she was, Honerva could only identify with a dead woman for 10,000 years.
