If WCW Was Still Around Today
I think if World Championship Wrestling (WCW) were still around, WWE would be a much better product. Having WCW around pushed WWE to new heights. The writing for WWE was much more appealing when they were going neck and neck against each other during the Monday night wars. Competition against WWE will always be a good thing for the business. From a fans perspective, My favorite wrestling moments as a kid would never have happened if it weren’t for WCW being around. Once WCW went out of business the fans no longer had a alternative to WWE. Maybe if some of the big time wrestlers from WWE migrated over to WCW, it could have been the WWE who had gone out of business.
Check out the article below about WWE’s Shawn Michaels almost jumping over to WCW.

Glory for Gold
I’v noticed championship wrestling belts have changed a bit since the 80′s. Above is my personal WWF world heavy-weight championship belt that was used from 1988-98 made by Dave Millican. Now the company has taken on a more bling looking design for their belts. The current championship has much more diamonds and rubies than past designs. I prefer the simple designs that were used back then. Many people don’t understand how much time and work is spent crafting these artful belts. The belts are gold plated, hand painted and the leather is hand tooled. It takes a couple of months to complete the process for a belt like the one above. There are also few experts in this particular field of work, workloads are heavy and wait times for these belts has drastically increased since I bought mine in 2010. With my generation growing up and now having disposable incomes, championship belts like mine are a hot commodity in the wrestling world for collectors.
What If WWE Had an Off Season?
I always wondered if the WWE had an off season would the writing and wrestlers benefit from it. In this industry traveling from city to city takes an enormous toll on the wrestlers. I think with an off season it would give the wrestlers time to recuperate from various injuries and prolong their careers. The writers would benefit by developing carefully thought out storylines during the off season. I think the perfect time for an off season would be right after Wrestlemania. During the off season wrestlers can also use this time to branch out to other platforms of entertainment such as motion pictures and promotional conventions geared towards fans. An off season would give each year much more focus and importance to the coming season.
History Repeats Itself in this Business
I look at today’s crop of talent in professional wrestling and see how closely it resembles the trends of the 80′s and 90′s. Wrestlers like John Cena and Daniel Bryan are similar to Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart. The problem with John Cena’s “Good Guy” character is that it becomes stagnant over time and fans grow tired of it, just like Hogan’s character in the mid 90′s. Hogan reinvented himself by turning heel, which helped prolong his career and create a new fan base for the next generation. Daniel Bryan constantly fights to prove himself as a top star to the company just like Bret Hart had to in his career. I hope Daniel Bryan can overcome WWE’s obstacles and biases towards smaller athletes and become just as successful in this business as Bret Hart.
CM Punk UFC debut
I’m looking forward to seeing what CM Punk has to offer the MMA world. I know a lot of people are waiting for him to fail, but I’m not one of them. I think he has taken the appropriate steps in developing his martial arts skill set. I know he is training bjj in Milwaukee with Roufusport and it will come in handy when he finally steps into the octagon later this year. I think he has a chance to help save the UFC. I have been a fan of the UFC since 2006 and witnessed the sport skyrocket after the big FOX deal was struck. Since then the sport has been over exposed and I personally have grown exhausted with the number PPV’s the company dishes out almost every other week. I think with the older generation of MMA stars like Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre fading away, CM Punk can regain my interest in the sport. I am curious to see how much of the professional wrestling fan base CM Punk is going to bring with him. I know when Brock Lesnar came over from WWE he brought with him an enormous amount of fans who helped make him a superstar in his first bout against Frank Mir. He later became a huge draw for the business financially and became their heavyweight champion. I see that same hunger and desire from CM Punk. His first fight will no doubt be must see PPV and I will enjoy tuning in to support.
