Almost 17 feet in circumference, this tree his barely hidden in Moraine State Park. It's less than 100 feet from a trail, and you can find it easily if you are looking. But you could also hike the trail and not see it. It was nice to visit with an old tree like this. (at Moraine State Park)
Grape hyacinths are in bloom
The Monongahela River had a mirror like surface today (at Hot Metal Bridge)
This was one of my favorite views in Muir Woods. The sun filters through ferns, which are growing directly from a tree. (at Muir Woods National Monument)
When you can't capture the grandeur of the trees, you focus on the smaller details: the bark patterns, the moss, and the animals. We saw a few banana slugs on the redwoods. (at Muir Woods National Monument)
It is hard to photograph redwoods. If you just take a picture, they can look like other trees. You need a person to give a bit of scale. But even that doesn't do them justice. Cameras can't quite capture the quality of light that filters through the canopy. They have trouble capturing the mist rising out of the wood when sunlight strikes. I wish I could record what it was like to see, hear, smell, and feel the woods, and share that with other people. But I don't think it's possible. You need to get into the woods yourself. (at Muir Woods National Monument)
Along route one, we came across a lighthouse that is a hostel. You can't stay in the lighthouse itself, just in the outbuildings. Maybe we can try it on another trip (at Pigeon Point Lighthouse)
We saw the sea lions at Pier 39. The pier area was very touristy, but it was worth it to see the wildlife (at PIER 39)
The Japanese Tea Garden may be my favorite place in San Francisco. I would love to make a garden like it someday (at Japanese Tea Garden)
New hat finished, cotton and yak blend yarn from Rowan. I have plenty of this left over, so I can make more hats. I like the stitch definition.
Crocuses are blooming really early. I'm happy for an early spring, but it makes me worry about how hot the summer will be.
A snowdrop is blooming. It's a month earlier than last year. I wonder if the crocuses will be early too.
I finished this hat today, the yarn is undyed cashmere from Kazakhstan. I'm happy that I can help support nomadic herdsmen by purchasing their fibers. #junecashmere
After six months of work, I finished my cardigan
It's December, and we still have flowers blooming. This is some creeping phlox
