Next week we having a guest speaker at college from UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE LONDON and today we had to create a research poster detailing their ethos, marketing mix (the 4 Ps) and their target customer.
In college we had a guest speaker, the mother and daughter who own The Linen Lounge and before their talk I created a research poster about their ethos, marketing mix (the 4 Ps) and their target customer.
For this task we worked in a pair and were given a brief of creating a collection for athletes with a luxury activewear brand. We named it R&R Activewear using both our first name initials. I did the slides on market knowledge and the paragraph on designs. I researched sustainable fabric options for active wear and average price points for various activewear items at a high end level. Then we both worked on the design concepts and my partner illustrated the female design and I the male design. We catered the design to predicted active wear trends for 2026. Finally our tutor gave us a problem which we had to solve and ours was that the sustainable fabric was too expensive so we came up with the solution to hold a sponsored half marathon that the entrance fee for will go towards the fabrics and as an added incentive of any participants will get a 10% discount on the collection. We then presented our idea to the rest of the class.
Purpose & Application of Research Methods
We worked together in threes to collect information about our chosen trend (baggy jeans) using the 4 types of research below. I created the slides on quantitative and primary research.
Qualitative Research - based off of opinions, feelings and experiences and focuses on descriptive information. It consists of interviewing people, observing people and reading customer reviews.
Quantitative Research - based on numbers and data, things that can be measured and counted and is used to understand trends based on statistics. It consists of checking sales data, conducting surveys and analysing social media trends.
Primary Research - data you collect yourself to gather completely new information. It consists of interviewing people and sketching based on observations.
Secondary Research - data from existing sources and the use of information that is already available. It consists of reading online reports, looking at past reviews and using social media to analyse trends.

Compliance with Standard & Legislation Case Studies-Health & Safety in Fashion Production
I created the research poster on Boohoo’s UK Factory Scandal (2020). Where I researched what happened, the consequences and how such situations can be avoided. The other four posters have been made by my peers about other case studies surrounding health and safety. Below are the websites I used for my research and some videos further explaining the scandal in Leicester and highlighting the mistreatment of workers in Pakistan as well.

Organisations
In groups we were given a list of nine types of organisations and we each had to research three individually and find an example of each, describe each type of organisation and break down the role each have within the fashion industry. I did the research for Sector Skills Bodies, Creative Bodies and Corporations whilst the rest of my group did the other six. These other six were Limited Companies, Small and Medium Enterprises, Not-For-Profit, Charities, Freelancers and Sole Traders.
Case Study : Job Roles
I had to complete a case study on an organisation, I chose Victoria’s Secret, where I had to use a list of job roles from their website (which is listed below). I then had to separate four of these job roles in to the following four categories and write about the responsibilities for each role. The categories are: Business - focussed on strategy, management, marketing and sales. Design - involves the creative process of designing clothing, accessories and textiles. Production - focuses on turning designs into physical products through planning and manufacturing processes. Technical - involves technical expertise in materials, garment construction and technology.

York Retail Report
We went to York on a trip and were tasked with going into boutiques and asking the owners about their products, prices, the places their stores can be found and how they promote their brand. Then we made presentations about the information we had collected creating an overall review of the 4 Ps for each boutique. I found the actual creation of the presentation fairly easy. However, the asking questions was out of my comfort zone and because we travelled around in groups others asked the questions while I wrote notes about what was said. Next time a task like this arises I plan to challenge myself by being the person who actually conducts the interview.

French Connection
We worked in groups to create a retail report for a retail company which we were given at random. In my group I was responsible for researching the marketing mix and analysing the 4 Ps in relation to the brand French Connection. I found it easier to find information for their products, prices and place but I struggled to understand how their promotion works. Overall, however, I think my group were able to create a detailed, informative and visually appealing presentation.
For our initial task we had to work in groups to create a male and female look using a white and black T-shirt. We were given a target customers, my group’s being a free-spirited hippie. Personally, I found it easier to create the female look as I don’t think the male look quite matches the criteria as the style leans towards a more punk aesthetic. We then had to individually create a PowerPoint of how we envisioned the life of our target customer. We then followed up this research by creating three looks a day look, evening look and finally one for a special occasion on Shoplook, the base of the outfits still being a lack or white T-shirt.
