For more on the Fermi Paradox and why alien life hasn’t found us yet. (Infographic via futurism)
I’ve blogged about this paradox before, but I’ve never read all of these resolutions to it, nor have it seen it explained in such a simple infographic.
You should always try to make an even number of sign errors

The dust sculptures of the Eagle Nebula are evaporating. As powerful starlight whittles away these cool cosmic mountains, the statuesque pillars that remain might be imagined as mythical beasts. Pictured above is one of several striking dust pillars of the Eagle Nebula that might be described as a gigantic alien fairy. This fairy, however, is ten light years tall and spews radiation much hotter than common fire. The greater Eagle Nebula, M16, is actually a giant evaporating shell of gas and dust inside of which is a growing cavity filled with a spectacular stellar nursery currently forming an open cluster of stars.
Vox’s Joss Fong put together a beautiful video pairing the images from the Voyager Golden Records (learn more about them here) with words from Carl Sagan and music from Blind Willie Johnson. The first image was a simple “calibrating circle” used in this post’s title.
There’s something powerful about this collection of images – this small attempt to sum up human existence. Carl Sagan said:
The spacecraft will be encountered and the record played only if there are advanced space-faring civilizations in interstellar space. But the launching of this ‘bottle’ into the cosmic ‘ocean’ says something very hopeful about life on this planet.
If we sent a time capsule to the aliens today, what would you want to include?
I am glad that they have sent these photos. If the aliens’ research were based only on chemical analysis of carbon (biomass), they would think that our planet is inhabited by 99.9% of plants and microbes. We and the rest of the animals would be classified as… Other life forms: negligible[.] :)

It would be so nice to be in an apartment right now with really big open windows and lots of bright light pouring in and and long curtains and the smell of rain floating through it
The Millennial generation is so broke we’re romanticizing decent housing.
This image displays Kepler’s second law of planetary motion.
“A line joining a planet and the Sun sweeps out equal areas during equal intervals of time” (Meaning that each triangle seen there has equal area.)
The black dot represents a planet, the point where the black lines intersect represent the sun.
The green arrow represents the planet’s velocity,
The purple arrows represents the force on the planet.
