kas-ottenheimer:
Neon throbbed through the single, postage-stamp-sized window. The light inside the laundry room was sallow, but mercifully only one color: a washed-out fluorescence that gave everything a yellowish tint. Beneath the row of drab beige cabinets, there was a state-of-the-art washer and a dryer with what looked like forty different settings, plus a large basin sink, and an empty linen laundry bag standing upright in the corner. Other than that, the room was barren; it was designed with a single purpose, serving only as the domain of a housekeeper or some other order-in laundry service, clearly unintended for public display.
Are you? “Yeah, y’know. ‘Bout as much as I expected.” An answer less precise than no, but it boiled down to the same thing. His shoulders rose and fell in a rather resigned way. “It’s been a long night. Believe it or not, doing laundry actually feels like a highlight.” The third cabinet finally turned up what he’d been hunting for; Kas ignored the jumbo-sized jug of Tide and pulled out, instead, a tall dark bottle with a label that had nearly disintegrated from use. A sniff confirmed it to be hydrogen peroxide, %3 if he were to guess; he set it down uncapped. Then he took the bunched-up dress from her and gently smoothed the fabric on top of the washing machine. “When you’ve got an oxidizable stain— like something bright and colored— you wanna use a bleaching agent to lift it.” Her drink had probably been one of the signature cocktails, with plenty of sugary juice mixed in; the dress was dark, but cranberry or pomegranate could still leave a lasting mark. Kas turned the sink on till the water ran warm, then passed the dress underneath it, soaking it through. He squeezed the excess water off and laid the wet fabric flat again; the dark bottle was swiftly upended onto a sponge before he began to dab. “Hydrogen peroxide does a better job than regular detergent, it’ll break down the chemical structures that make the color visible—” Engrossed in the task, he suddenly realized that he’d started giving a chemistry lesson that no one had asked for, and glanced apologetically at Cori, hair falling into his eyes, “— y’know, just in case this happens again. The more you know, right?”
Once the stain had been dabbed to his satisfaction, he returned to the sink and rinsed off the sponge. “And now we wait.” He didn’t suggest that they should rejoin the party; these four white walls and the relative quiet contained within them felt like something he didn’t want to give up, not yet. Turning around, Kas eyed her and settled back against the edge of the sink, arms loosely crossed. His thoughts retraced their steps to something she’d said earlier— the auction was subpar. “So, the gala was a bust? How come?”
with kas it was always hard to tell what exactly went through his head. to cori at least it was always rather cryptic to decipher his words or the meaning behind them. “ too many leggy blonde models, too little time ? ” she joked although it was pretty halfheartedly delivered. she tilted her head lightly, looking at the wall opposite her, “ actually, i know what you mean. — well, i’ve been enjoying it but not for the sake of enjoying it. ” she said, feeling like none of what she just said made sense, she turned to look at him, a smile tugging on her lips “ you know ? ” cori could definitely have fun at a party without drinking but usually she drank to enhance it and to let go of any worries or limitations. tonight she'd just been drinking to distract herself, too many things was bothering her and she’d been able to add two more things to that list tonight. she let him take the dress as he seemed to have an idea about what he was doing, at least what he said sounded smart. she watched as he worked on the dress and began an impromptu chemistry lesson, she didn’t mind, she just hoped it’d stick ‘cause it was pretty useful. she shot him a quick grin as he looked over. “ you learn something new every day. ”
mirroring kas she loosely crossed her arms for a moment before dropping them with a sigh. “ oh, you know. aren’t they all ? ” she tried, a quiet laugh leaving her lips, it was what she’d come to know as the standard answer, if you didn’t hate those kind of formal events around these parts you’d probably be considered weird. “ it wasn’t all bad. i just came in with too high expectations and they were not met, let’s put it like that. actually not even high expectations, just — expectations. ” she explained with a jazz hands like gesture.
kas-ottenheimer:
“That’s our Trev. He can make himself at home pretty much anywhere.” The evidence was all around them— the party itself was proof of Trev’s ability to impose himself onto a place, especially a perfect blank canvas like this huge, sparsely-furnished house. Kas left Cori to sort through the piles, posting up against the wall like a sentry; when the door cracked open, her head poked out, but the rest of her stayed concealed. It’s all so, psychedelic in there. Kas snorted, the corner of a smile coming into view. “Oh— so you’re not interested in looking like you just got back from Burning Man? Or like a walking optical illusion? Shocker.” Then he gave her a nod, dutifully peeling himself away from the wall. “I’ve got plenty. Gimme a sec.”
His own room was across the hall. Unlocking the door (a functioning lock was the first thing he’d checked for), he walked into a room that was still in the same state it’d been upon arrival: the bed turned-down and the sheets crisp, a rolled towel and a little notecard detailing the wifi password and other guest amenities arranged on top. His suitcase lay in the corner, everything inside of it still neatly folded. Even when he pulled out a few shirts for Cori to choose from— two Supreme tee’s as requested, plus a Comme Des Garçon shirt that was loose-fitting enough to provide pretty much the same coverage as a dress— the suitcase remained in perfect order. Crossing back to Trevor’s room, Kas knocked on the door and passed the options along when it opened. “Let me know if those are okay.” Once she stepped outside, he gave her a fleeting smile and motioned with his chin in the direction of the stairs. “C’mon, we can try a little experimental chemistry to save that dress.”
Their footfalls were soon overtaken by the pounding of music and voices competing to be heard above it. It wasn’t until they reached the laundry room that it was quiet enough to talk again; he realized that the space needed to be filled with more conversation, so he went for the easy, low-hanging fruit. “Spills and stains aside, you having a good time?” Kas shot her a sideways glance, simultaneously opening cabinets. “Feeling the West Coast fantasy?” He tried not to sound too sarcastic, but inevitably, there was a dryness in his tone that couldn’t be masked.
neither burning man nor optical illusion was the type of look she’d typically go for thus she raised her brows as if that was a given, " i just feel like you should keep it in the desert, you know. besides only trev pulls this kind of stuff off. ” she begins as she pulls out one of the crazier looking patterns for him to have a look, although he probably already knew of these gems. “ i swear this thing is moving. ” perhaps it was just the alcohol playing with her mind. she offered him a big smile and a thank you as he pushed off the wall and disappeared down the hall.
upon the knock, cori pulled open the door, revealing kas and a couple different options. it already seemed way more appealing to her, so she happily grabbed them as he handed them over. “ they’re perfect, thank you so much kas. ” with a smile she closed the door behind her. honestly looking forward to getting out of her dress that was starting to feel pretty icky at this point. she picked the loosest fitting of the shirts and put on the belt she’d been wearing with her dress, checking herself in the mirror and deeming it safe for work. stepping outside she grinned and gave kas two thumbs up for the shirt selection, then nodded and followed him.
“ the night in general or this party in particular ? ” she wondered as she joined in on searching the cabinets. “ ‘cause the auction was subpar. ” she’d seen stuff she’d rather been without and honestly she didn’t know how to feel about it. she didn’t quite buy that he himself was very impressed with the party. straightening back up she leaned against the cabinets she’d just looked through. “ are you ? despite the doing laundry part of course. ”

a manicured digit touches the cup in cori’s hand pushing it towards the girl again, “drink more,” she says easily with a shake of her head, “no pouting on my watch and there is a hundred percent no time to feel sorry for yourself. save that for four am and when you’re around your other friends.” her tone is light and teasing, not meant for cori to take them to heart. plus, anyone who knew sienna knew she had never been particularly good at consoling anyone. “there are seriously so many fishes in the sea here - take your pick. eenie, meanie, miney, moe - i’ll find you a hot model to hook up with up.” she filters in the room with cori behind her, closing the door after her. “see anything worth wearing in here? no need to be picky cori, i can find someone to take it off of you in under twenty.”
she brings the cup back to her lips when urged to drink some more, not needing to be told twice at this point. sienna was right and when sienna was right, well, you had to act. your other friends. cori couldn’t help but roll her eyes over the rim of the cup not making a point in hiding it either. “ my other friend, is fucking him. ” cori noted sharply before taking another long sip of the drink. she lets out a laugh upon the mention of models, “ you’re not the first one to give me that offer. trev invited just about every model from fashion week, or they invited themselves ? i’m not sure. — anyway i’m not getting with someone who’s prettier than me. ” she joked as she shifted through some of the clothes that were spread on the bed in the middle of the room. “ god sienna, how ‘bout we find you someone. you sound like you need it. ” cori replied, throwing her a smile over her shoulder before picking up a one colored silk button up, suspecting it to be trev’s. “ so much silk. — recon i could make it work with my belt ? ”
blalrs:
“yeah, you’re probably right.” she dipped her chin in a small nod, the comment well deserved. fraternizing with a friend’s ex was one of the unspoken cardinal rules; unforgivably written in bold red lipstick. “i really am sorry, cor. we were just..” being blair and kieran. hardly a scholar’s answer, but the only one that seemed justified. her and kieran had a unique bond, something that extended well before and beyond his fall out with her friend. and though their spectacular break up put him swiftly in the ex’s category, he was still blair’s friend. they were unidentifiable; forged in chaos and cemented with countless adventures and reckless behaviour. regardless, that fact did little to reason with the red hot guilt flaring up inside of her. “i hate that i hurt you. i just wasn’t thinking.” cori was her friend too and in chasing after her every wild whim, blair had hurt her. the road to hell was always paved with good intentions. “you can push me in the pool if that helps. you can even take a really unflattering picture and send it to page six. my mother will have an aneurysm.” she let out a little laugh, blowing a few stray strands of her honey hair from her eyes. she had managed to soak up a majority of the stain, the white gossamer fabric now stained in her fingers. “or just say the word and i’m gone. you won’t see me for the rest of the night. i swear.”
there was a slight urge to be dramatic and have one of those, i can’t even look at you right now, sort of moments but deep down it wasn’t the case and she really didn’t wanna cause a scene either. she crossed her arms lightly in front of her, eyes trained on the ground as blair spoke. it didn’t really sit right with her, not tonight. with a sigh cori gestured for her friend to stop “ honestly, blair. i don’t really wanna hear it. not tonight, okay. i just wanna have fun and forget. ” she told her, meeting her eyes for the first time as if actually accepting the peace offering. “ and i don’t wanna push you in the pool. ” she stated, rolling her eyes just slightly, maybe it would’ve been fun but she wasn’t that petty. to cori it did seem like something would evidently happen between kieran and blair, she would’ve just preferred a warning of some kind, maybe them just openly admitting to it as well, but alas that wasn’t how things ran around here. “ i can’t say you’re forgiven entirely but i’m willing to let it slide tonight, ‘cause it’s a party and they even put it on a neon sign, no bad vibes. ”

trevhanson:
“I mean, it still kinda sucks to have your dress be ruined.” Trev said, wondering for a moment what had gotten her so bristly. He lived by the motto that glowed neon inside, tonight especially he was feeling alive and positive. Green eyes fell to the towel that she cast aside, white and forgotten on the grey of the patio stones. His brow lifted and without speaking he bent to pick it up, draping it along the back of a chair. “What are you feeling? Prescription Painkiller? They’re pretty rad.” Her question made him grin, “The planner, I guess. She was cool, I wonder if she stuck around to see how it turned out.”
“ don’t say that, trev. it’s not ruined yet. ” she wasn’t giving up on it, even if she probably would just end up paying for it to be cleaned in the end. she took note of his gesture and offered him a quick smile. “ that’s what i meant to do. ” she explained as if that justified it. “ you pick, but make it strong. ” she told him with an encouraging grin on her lips. “ see if i had been you, i would’ve just taken the honors. ‘cause they’re pretty great. actually it’s all pretty great. had me questioning if we were still in the hamptons for a second. ”
eliasmorrissey:
His head was tilted to the side, something shimmering, not any less deferred then he was before when the question was up in the air of whether or not he’d be seeing that dress puddle at her feet. His jaw slackened; cut to the side as he looked down at the stain on her dress, “Too bad–” He responded, looking back up at her, matching her expression, “–Left my Tide Pen at home,” The caper dropped out of his mouth, insouciant, though the look on his face wore borrowed inclination. He’d still help, even if it meant being her bellboy and fetching a towel and soap, just to watch her dab her breast for five minutes. Honied eyes watched her arms raise, to rest on her hips, and his smile widened, complacent as he watched her own hues find his frame. A furtive laugh left his parted lips, “That obvious?” The boy responded, “… You sound interested. You’re welcome to join, if you’d like,” Elias gestured his hand in her direction, subtle, just the slight extending of the palm that held his cup, “Hate to break it to you though, but, uh–” He leaned in, towards her ear, as if he were giving her a secret, “If you’re gonna get in the pool, you’ll have to get out of that dress–” He leaned back, “Pretty as you are in it.”
“ or you’ve just come prepared in case someone spills beer on you. ” she shrugs, in her case it was very likely. also very likely herself. “ well i need to do something other than crying over my dress and so far my evening has been very uneventful. ” she told him, besides she was probably better off just sending the dress straight to dry cleaning in the morning. she already figured what he was going to say before he said it, it was pretty obvious after all. and so she just nodded lightly. “ guess i spoke too soon, huh ? getting me out of my dress after all. ” her voice was full of mirth as she took a step back “ give me five minutes to change then, and if you’re bored you could always get me a drink. ” with that she made her way to the bathroom for a quick change, always surprising herself with how much her bag could carry, as she stuffed her dress into it — not that her dress had that much fabric. she slipped into a dusty blue one piece before returning to the outside, scanning the crowd for elias and making her way over to his side, smile ever so present. “ why is it always the pool ? ” she wondered as she cast a quick look towards the focus of her question.
dakotafvller:
there was a magic to the air of their make-shift los angeles that differed from the city and its magnetism enticed dakota. she had downed more drinks than she could remember and had helped herself to another line in the bathroom with kelsey earlier as aggravated party guests had knocked on the door for a few solid minutes before departing off to some corner of the backyard, she was sure, to pee. you get people drunk enough and they just stop caring. she was sashaying her way through the crowd, on her way to go find bridget who had texted her that she had arrived, fashionably late, before her petite body was colliding into another’s. “fuck,” the curse fell from her lips before blue eyes connected with a female’s brown, doe-like ones, as they flickered down to the newfound stain on her silk black dress. “on this silk, also,” she agreed, gaze shifting to find a makeshift towel, something, maybe water to add to it to clean it. her tanned arm linked with the brunette’s, nodding, already guiding her towards the bathroom, flickering past the crowd like a firefly that blinked light on and off, focused on getting out the stain. “we’ll get it out, don’t worry. if i can get cum stains out of my prom dress then i can get your cocktail out of this silk.”
“ dude i know. ” she whined as the blonde seemed to agree with her unfortunate situation or rather that the dress needed saving. you had to have priorities in life, right ? maybe hers weren’t the conventional order, but that didn’t matter. “ like why didn’t i spill it on you, no offence but rhetorically. ” she mumbled, making gestures outwards while making a mental note to tip the glass away from herself next time. before she knew of it, she was being led towards the bathrooms, which was definitely the right choice. “ oh, that’s a lovely image. ” cori began, scrunching her nose slightly, “ but good thing you have experience with like, the heavy stuff. ” she noted before a light laugh left her lips.
kiicrans:
he sipped his drink, the amber colored liquid dripping smoothly down his throat as if it were water, listening to her as his blue gaze wandered around the room. a scowl falling onto his face as it landed on his dad and his girlfriend, who was clinging onto him like she was proud to be his sidepiece. he took a lengthy sip of his drink, liquid going down more harsh than the last as he pulled his gaze away. “six minutes going on seven.” he teased, “think you can make it to ten?” truth be told, it wasn’t ever hard for cori to have his attention - even when she wasn’t around he found his mind wandering back to her. his downfall - and he knew it all too well - was the sheer fact that he acted impulsively that was a lethal combination when he could be easily distracted by a pretty girl. “this outfit goes with any outfit. it’s meant to make a statement while also blending in and letting my date take centre stage.” he made a gesture of bowing his head, “you’re welcome.” he lets a grin encompass his face, “i was fed those words in case harpers bazaar interviewed me.” he takes the lead, walking towards a set of double doors that bring them outside. “so, why’d you decide to go joan of arc instead of having a scandalous moment? did jesus come and whisper to you in your sleep?”
“ i’m sure i could find some sort of way. ” she said with a certain suggestive undertone that she immediately regretted but even then, she didn’t let it show, simply playing it off with a smile and a shrug, no wavering here. besides this is how it’d always been between them, even if she didn’t quite feel like embracing it this time. she scrunched her nose upon his sales speech. “ a statement. what like, nipples to the wind ? ” she suggested with a laugh. she thought she was showing off a lot, but kieran really was out here with a nip slip every other second. “ — i think that’d do really great on the cover to be honest. ” she follows him outside, the music and chatters from everyone inside fading away slightly. “ mostly ‘cause of you.. ” she said, side eyeing him for a second “ you know the whole ‘groundbreaking’ comment, i just thought, well i’ll show him. so yeah. to boost your ego, i guess i wanted to impress you. ” she shrugged, she hadn’t wanted to show up and the look the same as she always did either. she was glad she did, her mom had given her a look of approval and her sisters jaw had practically dropped in envy. “ although i am by far outshining my sister tonight and it feels fantastic. ”
kas-ottenheimer:
“More like I wasn’t fond of the idea,” he called back, leading the way as they wove through the crowded downstairs, shouldering past some huddled influencers with their faces lit by the brightness of an iPhone camera. “My mom loves that house— she’s gotten a spread in Architectural Digest for it. It’d be shitty of me to betray her trust.” He didn’t think there was anything particularly embarrassing about admitting that he cared about his mom or her happiness. She had happily relinquished the beach house— something of great importance to her— to him and his friends for the whole summer, and Kas felt rightfully protective of it, laying down the law the first time someone had proposed something more than a few extra people coming over. Trashing it. Even the term implied a callousness that he found distasteful. And yet it seemed common, mostly in others who’d grown up around too much money and no regard for consequences— the kids who crashed their fathers’ Porsches and maxed out their mothers’ credit cards, just because they could.
This rental mansion technically had three floors, but the party had only spread as far as the first two— as soon as they began to climb, the upstairs revealed itself to be empty and dark. All the doors to the bedrooms had been closed against intrusion; the four of them still had to sleep here tonight, and washing sheets because some drunk couple had snuck off for a quickie was certainly not on the agenda. Kas pushed open the first door on the right, leading into Trev’s chosen bedroom. A flick of the light switch revealed a chaotic mess: an immense suitcase thrown open in the middle of the floor, clothing spilling from it like a scene of grisly disembowelment. There were shirts draped all over the bed, jewel-toned silks and obnoxious prints. “Ah,” he said with sarcastic brightness, taking it all in, “Just like a Middle Eastern bazaar. Take your pick. I’ll be—” He completed the sentence with a nod to the darkened hallway, slipping out of the room to give her some privacy and closing the door behind himself.
it was nice to hear about someone not wanting to burn their parents house down just to get their attention for five minutes, even though it’d be far from positive. cori had her problems with her family but at this point she’d kinda just settled with the fact that she was the black sheep and nothing she ever did could change that. “ well that’s very thoughtful of you. ” cori noted, she’d never even thought about hosting anything at hers, the biggest factor being her sister, who’d lose her mind, if she found the tiniest bit of evidence that some people had fun in the home. — a bit of a partypooper one might say.
cori had attempted to check out a bit of the mansion earlier, when she was having a bit of a sad girl hour happening. she’d been evading certain people and taking a moment to herself but eventually decided she’d seen what was to be seen, it wasn’t like it had much personality. as they climbed the stairs cori realized there were more floors than she’d originally thought and that she was out of shape. “ you know, i need to start running more. ” she decided out loud, just so at least one person had heard and could hold her to it. “ wow, you’ve been here like two hours. ” she pointed out upon seeing the mess trev had already made of his room. she let out a laugh at kas’s comment which was just on point. she watched for a second as he left the room before diving into the pile of clothes, although not finding anything particularly in her taste. she slipped over to poke her head out of the room. “ don’t you have like one of your supreme t-shirts or something. it’s all so, psychedelic, in there. — i promise, no more ruining clothing articles tonight. ”
blalrs:
somewhere between the incident in the pool and the trip to the after party, blair lost the majority of the white gossamer overlay of her dress, leaving just the shift of sparkling diamonds beneath. she glitters beneath the lights, casting off bursts of rainbow tinged light with every twist of her hips. it takes a good sweep of the room but she finally spots cori through the crowd. she spins her way through the throngs of party goers, arriving at cori’s side just in time to witness her collide with an amazonian blonde. the jarring collision has the remainder of cori’s drink spilling down the front of her dress and the blonde’s shrill laughter not far behind. surely if anyone witnessed blair sticking her foot out just as the girl was prancing away, they wouldn’t blame her. turning to her friend - or who she desperately hoped still was - her angelic featured turned into something far more morose then a single spilled drink required. “she clearly skipped a debutant class or two.” she keeps her voice light. “here, let me help. that shit stains–” she doesn’t bother searching for a spare napkin, instead blair rips the remaining scrap of white fabric from her dress and presses it against the wet stain on cori’s dress. she offers the brunette a hopeful smile. “peace offering?”
if there was one person cori didn’t wanna see right now it was blair, especially after being laughed in the face by some blonde giantess and spilling her drink on herself like an actual idiot. she generally felt like a joke this evening. although, she did notice blairs quick footwork and she couldn’t help but feel slightly thankful for that. “ i think you might have too. ” cori noted, she was pretty sure tripping girls weren’t part of any curriculum — nor was getting it on with your friend’s ex. she barely even had time to react before blair was ripping her dress apart, or rather transforming it, just to help her. how annoying. peace offering ? she couldn’t really say no now, that’d make her look like a bitch. but she’d also barely had time to be angry with them and she felt like she had the right to be. “ just for tonight. and for tripping that girl i guess. ” she sighed, avoiding blair’s eyes, she figured one look at her and all was forgiving.
bvbyvalmxnt:
“i’m sure they’ve got to have something.. options, cori - even west coast boys have to have options,” she mused, lips flicking into a smile as she holds out her drink for cori to take, “i bet there’s a vibrant colored button up with a crazy pattern laying around somewhere, maybe a supreme t-shirt, or a classic wife beater that would make ryan atwood proud,” she lets out a laugh as she reaches the top of the stairs, careful to dodge the couple making out by the banister, “anything is better than walking around in a soaked tight dress. plus -” she pauses, tossing cori a look as she turns the handle to the first door her nimble digits land on, “imagine kieran’s stupid face when he sees you wearing some other guy’s shirt.”
“ eh.. ” cori shrugged, she weren’t sure she’d like their options. well that was a lie, kas was a bit of a hypebeast after all. with a smile she takes the drink sienna’s handing to her, taking a sip of it as they ascent the stairs and dodging couples who hadn’t been told to find a room apparently. “ it’s pretty uncomfortable. ” she agreed with a pout as she looked back down at her dress. still cute though. “ i could work with one of kas’s shirts probably. they’re not all bad. ” she claimed. sienna’s words urged a long sigh out of cori as she passed her in the doorway. “ yeah, i really don’t think he’d care. ” her words were laced with bitterness, unfortunately she couldn’t help but care what he thought but she also knew sienna would not get that, and maybe that made her the perfect person to spill it to. she had a way of snapping cori out of it. “ i mean when has he ever.. ”
