carnation; annalise's gender and femininity mean little to her. she is comfortable in them, and sees little need to deliberately act within or against gender conformity. her quest for a child of blood has to do with her personal wants and not expectations of motherhood, although she is nonetheless a very motherly figure to the vilebloods. she sees no particular value in her or others' gender, only in their ambitions and needs.

chamomile; never again; that is the lesson annalise takes from painful events. if she makes a mistake, or witnesses a tragedy, she will do everything in her power to ensure it will not come to pass a second time. though she is not without empathy or feelings of grief, as regent of cainhurst she must remain steadfast.

the greatest exception to this has been the violent purge of the vilebloods by the executioners. her dearest kin gone, she has lost much of her motivation, as well as the need to appear like an impassive leader. she can never forgive herself her inability to prevent the massacre. "never again" means very little when there is no one left to save.
