The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or donāt pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:

Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.

Got a refusal or no response from your MP?Ā
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if theyāre already in Parliament. Even if they donāt, theyāre made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations canāt provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, menās rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If youāre a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from womenās bathrooms if youāre perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a āthird spaceā bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).Ā
A womenās only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ālesbianā, and therefore no longer have legal protections if theyāre discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).

The fact that this is the line drawn is really funny! Human breasts are actually incredibly rare among mammals! We don't know exactly why humans have big bazongas but it's probably sexual selection, which presents the really funny problem
If your snake women having sex with people is normal and expected...then yeah, they're ALSO probably going to have something resembling breasts. They might even just have breasts in all but function.
Like yes, non-mammals don't make milk, but you actually don't need the whole kit that humans do in order to make milk. Arguably its not even the important part of the breast to begin with.
The funniest part of Hata no Kokoro is that youād think sheās emotionless with all that entails, like sweetening up and desfrosting, except this is Touhou and ZUN famously likes thug, brash girls in pretty clothes, so the deal with Kokoro is that she is expressionless, not emotionless, she is actually very emotional and temperamental, and her first instinct is to throw hands with whoever she suspects took her mask (one of 66, which she needs to exist, since sheās a menreiki, ghosts born from masks). She spends the first few storylines picking fights just in case. She looks like this:
So youāre like awww cute pink onion, I wonder if sheās nice! Rookie mistake, she already bashed your brains in with a steel chair. When she finds out who took her mask (Komeiji Koishi), her first instinct is āOh! Ok, I will kill herā.
Of note, she canonically got beat up by every playable character in her origin game, but after Mamizou beats her, she gives Kokoro a pep talk that amounts to āKokoro, you are fighting tirelessly because you are desperate to get something backā¦ Thatās wrong, you should just fight because itās FUN. I could see how much you liked it! Do it for fun! Attack! Do spin attacks!ā and Kokoro says āactually yeah I LOVE fightingā.
She proceeds to canonically beat Reimu, who also was being assisted by Byakuren and Miko.
Kokoro likes fighting (and dancing, which to her are very alike) SO much that ragdolling Reimu gave her the emotion she was missing: Hope. She didnāt need the Mask of Hope anymore, because attacking girls made her develop the emotion without needing its physical anchor any longer.
Imagine needing a kidney transplant urgently or youāll die. Imagine your doctor saying āwell, actually, if you go and fight lots of girls, and enjoy it, you donāt need the transplant!ā and then imagine it actually working out, you donāt need a vital organ anymore because you love fighting girls so much it makes up for its biological functions.
Of note, Miko actually offered Kokoro a new Mask of Hope (Miko was the one that originally ordered for the creation of the masks that would eventually become Kokoro), and she made one for Kokoro. The problem was, it was TOO good, and it filled Kokoro with so much hope it threatened to make her TOO content, thus ākillingā her by letting go of attachment to the world and exorcising her. Imagine your doctor gives you a kidney SO good it shuts down the rest of your body. Kokoro almost died. This new Mask of Hope looks like this:
Kokoro doesnāt need the mask anymore as stated, so she doesnāt want to kill Koishi anymore. But, when she sees Koishi, itās on sight and she will start doing spin kicks at her anyways. Touhou lore rocks.
but seriously why is it ok that i can watch an extended, minutes long animated scene of someone having their guts pulled out through their abdomen but even alluding to sex is seen as spicy
my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government
this is getting really popular so iād like to add the important caveat that your criticism of a work is no more unassailable than the work itself. just as one is entitled to be critical of something someone else is entitled to disagree with that criticism. i add this because some of you pretend to give a fuck about thoughtful analysis and then when someone points out flaws in your argument you declare that all criticisms are valid. this is untrue. the status of a hater is no more sacred than that of a liker. get off your high horse and engage in the thoughtful discussion you pretend to believe in or perish by my blade
i talk about transitioning and all anyone ever says is "I hope you don't regret it" what if instead we said I hope you love it. I hope it's everything you ever wanted. I hope you live the rest of your life in utter bliss. etc etc.
I hope you transition and I hope it's the best thing you ever did and I hope you never look back and I hope you finally feel comfortable in your own skin
