        “OH I can definitely focus on your neck.” Cory grinned against the neck of his wife, it was moments like this he loved. He obviously loved their children, more than anything, but it wasn’t often they were able to have some time. Together. “Well, I am currently in this vampire costume and that neck is rather delicious. I mean, the rest of you is always delicious to look at but I can’t do that in public.” Cory remarked, turning his attention back to her NECK.

         “MOMMMYYYYY.” Auggie spoke slightly as he moved through the lounge room to where his mother was seated on the lounge. The child plopping himself promptly on the other’s lap, wrapping his arm around her neck and he nodded. “Daddy was supposed to have a boys day with me today but him and Riley had to do something for work instead. Can we have a mommy and Auggie day instead? PRETTY PLEASE?”.

    Forever. There’d been a few times when they were younger when she’d doubted that, but Cory never had. In time, she’d come to realise that he was right; nothing could come between them, and nothing ever had. Even with this huge move, halfway across the planet, he’d only told her that he was proud of her, that he trusted her to make the right decision. Somehow, she’d been lucky enough to fall in love with the perfect man, long before she was old enough to know what love really was. Throughout her life, he’d always made the hardest of things seem easier, and this was something else that could be added to the list. “We’ve raised two incredible children, if your mom and dad could manage to raise four…” she paused, wondering whether ‘incredible’ was a word that could really be used to describe Eric. Maybe she shouldn’t poke at that. “We can handle three. You’ve always been an incredible father. We’ve got this.”

          “YOU AND I both know they didn’t raise four incredibly children..more like three but we can go with that.” he chuckled softly. He knew, Eric probably wasn’t the most reasonable person, he was incredible just not in the way that they were most likely referring to. Squeezing Topanga gently, Cory smiled as he pressed a soft kiss to her head “As we’ve said, multiple times, as long as I have you by my side, there’s literally nothing we cant do. Separately we can do a lot of things but together.. we can do anything and everything because we have each other. We’ve handled parenthood, twice now, and I do say we handled it pretty well. The two kids we have are remarkable. So is this one because it will have us as parents and I know, for a fact, that you’re an amazing MOTHER.”

   New everything sounded about right — they were in a new city, a new country, they had new jobs, the kids had new schools…there’d be new friends in time, and the new baby, too. The only thing that seemed constant, the only part of their old life they’d brought along with them, was each other. That had always been all she really needed. Topanga set her fork down again, in order to wrap her arms around Cory. Where would she be without him? “No, Cory, we’re perfect. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I always hoped that, no matter where I ended up in life, you’d be right by my side. I’m not sure if I could handle all of this change without you…and I wouldn’t want to,” she leaned up, in order to kiss him softly. “So, you’re happy? I know we didn’t plan this, but…”

           “NO MATTER where you are in this world, I’ll be forever by your side. Whether we are separated for some reason, it’d still be walking by your side. Because no matter where we are in this world, we will always have each other.” Cory spoke softly, smiling as she turned to face him. Which was soon followed up by a kiss to his lips. He really got the best end of the deal, he had her in his life. They had two beautiful children and now, now they were going to be bringing up another one. It wasn’t the most ideal situation but he was looking forward to it. “I know we didn’t plan this babe, not in the slightest. But..I am happy. I am so happy. I never expected us to be having a third one especially when our children are older but..I am happy. This child is going to be so incredibly lucky. They’re going to have such a big and amazing family. Older siblings and a big extended FAMILY TOO.”

       “If mommy and Riley are having a girls day, I think that means we’re s’posed to have a guys day,” Auggie told his father, almost jumping onto the couch. He wasn’t exactly sure what that was supposed to consist of, but that was okay — they could make it up as they went along. Mostly, he just didn’t want to feel left out…though Topanga and Riley were long gone. “How do we do that? Can we get steak?”

                 THE MOMENT Topanga had informed him that she and Riley were off for a girls day, he waited, patiently, for the moment for their youngest child to make appearance. If it were on a weekend, girls day also resulted in a boys day for him and Auggie. He chuckled as his son jumped on the lounge before speaking. “Honestly Auggie, is that all you think about when it comes to a guys day? Is steak? Because that’s not just what a mens day is all about. You can get better for than just STEAKS AUGGIE.”

    Leaning her head on his shoulder, Topanga hummed thoughtfully, poking at the cake with her fork for a moment. Everything they’d done had always been worth it; moving to New York had been a big decision, but as everyone had told her, it had helped her to grow. They’d faced challenges, but they’d only made them stronger — hopefully, the same would be said for London in a few years time, and perhaps it wouldn’t be forever. Only time would tell. “I love you, too, Cory. I really do think we can do great here, all five of us. I just wish they could have offered me partner in the New York office. It would have been so much easier. But nothing that’s worth it is ever easy, is it?”

       WITH HIS arm being wrapped around her frame, he smiled. He knew this wasn’t easy. Coming to a new city and then a new baby...But they really could do anything and everything together. He nodded his head in understanding “You’re right there babe. I wish they had offered you partner at the New York office instead but hey, here we are. New City. New Beginnings. New everything. They wouldn’t have offered you here if they didn’t think you couldn’t do this. You’re amazing Topanga. So amazing and glorious and just..” he let out a loving sigh, batting his eyelashes playfully in her direction “Everything. You’re perfect.” he pressed a soft kiss to her head before continuing “No,nothing that you want is EVER EASY.”

      Oh, right, eating — the whole point of this was wanting to claim the cake. Well, that and informing her husband that their lives were about to change even more, but she’d been damn well determined to eat that cake. Reclaiming her fork, Topanga stabbed at the cake, taking a bite. “We are pretty lucky, so long everyone gets settled here. The kids are still adjusting, and now there’s gonna be a baby…” At least they had months before things would change completely, but she hoped the news didn’t make either of the kids even more mopey. It was difficult enough. “You don’t think we made a mistake, do you? Moving here, I mean. Our family will hardly even get to see the new baby, it’s not as if they can just drop by whenever they want.”

              PICKING UP his fork once more, Cory reached out to grab a piece of cake to put in his mouth before placing the fork down. When he said he only wanted two pieces, he did. He wasn’t as big on sweets as she was, but he didn’t care. He’d give her all of his cake if he had to, he loved her. Moving around the bench to stand beside his wife, he wrapped an arm around her, smiling softly. “No baby, I don’t think we are making a mistake. Although this is all happening at once, you know, new jobs, new location and a baby, I do think it’s all going to be worth it. Even with our family no where near us, it’s all going to be worth it.” He spoke softly, holding her close as he pressed a soft kiss to her head. “I LOVE YOU.”

    “You and me,” Topanga agreed, letting one of her hands rest on top of his. They’d been a team for their whole lives, and nothing had ever changed that, no matter what had been thrown their way. Time and time again, the world had tried to come between them, and they’d only come back stronger because of it. Their relationship could overcome anything, and so could the Matthews family — even if the kids were dubious at first, they’d get used to the idea, just as she was sure they would about London. A new country, a new home, and a new baby was a lot all at once, but they’d make it work. “If I’d known back in New York, I might not have even considered the move…but I guess this all happened for a reason. At least we have more space here.”

          “YOU KNOW, you know me, better than almost anyone, you and Shawn are both tied at the top of knowing me. But that last part is beside the point. But you know me, you know I’m not religious. In the slightest. But you do know I believe things happen for a reason and this is just that. The universe decided now was the best time to throw an obstacle at us in the form of another child.” he commented softly, using his thumb to trace over his wive’s stomach gently. “ Things happen for a reason babe and this baby was one of them. We had once brought up having another child, but it didn’t go any further than that. But clearly that topic is still out there because here we are. You eating for two again.” He smiled as he continued “We do have more space here. Each kid has their room and there’s a spare room or two. We got VERY LUCKY.”

     Riley had definitely been a surprise, given that they’d still been in college, but it had just made sense, and though it hadn’t been easy to find the balance, they’d managed to do it then — why couldn’t they do it now? They were older, they had more experience, and though she was a partner now, that meant more flexibility when she needed it. It was well timed, really, even if they hadn’t planned for it. “I’m not sure how the kids are going to feel about it, but I think we can make it work. We can handle anything.”

          “HOWEVER the kids or anyone else reacts is something that we will deal with... in time.” Cory murmured softly, rubbing his handed up and down her back softly. There were times in life where curve balls were in fact thrown in their direction but when it came to them? They always handled whatever it was. “No matter what happens, no matter what anyone says or do..” he spoke, moving one hand down and placing it atop of her flat stomach. “It’s always you and me verses the world and this is going to be the same situation. Cory and Topanga against the world forever remember, You and me.” he pressed a soft kiss to her lips. “FOREVER.”

      “Cory, honey, you’re thirty-five, not eighty,” she reminded him, vaguely amused. At least it eased some of the tension, made her feel a bit more relaxed. It was a hard thing to talk about, when they’d never really discussed it…but they were Topanga & Cory, of course they could handle something like this, they could pretty much handle absolutely anything, no matter what the world threw at them. Leaning against him, she considered the question for a moment, glancing towards her husband. “Surprised? I didn’t really expect this, but it’s…exciting, right? You don’t hate the idea, do you?”

           “SHHHH, don’t ruin this for me babe.” he remarked with a chuckle, playfully shoving his wife gently. Feeling Topanga lean against him, he wrapped his arms around her frame, pulling his wife gently in towards him. Surprise was definitely one word to describe it because he for sure was surprised as well. But in a good way. “It’s definitely exciting.” he admitted softly, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head before continuing “I definitely don’t hate this idea. Might need awhile to get used to the idea of you carrying my child...again. But I definitely don’t hate the idea. It’s kind of like with Riley, how she was a wanted surprise. I feel like that’s going to be the same with THIS BABY.”

    It wasn’t something they’d discussed in awhile. Riley was fourteen, Auggie was seven, they’d never exactly set out to keep leaving seven years between kids. The topic had been broached briefly every now and then, but never anything solid, never something they actually planned. Things had been a little too busy recently, especially with the move, and it wasn’t something she’d considered. If she’d known before they moved, maybe it would have changed things, maybe there would have been another layer to the decision. As it were…she supposed they were just adding another big change to the list. Watching her husband closely, Topanga slowly set down her fork, waiting for some kind of reaction. The dropped fork, she supposed, was something, though she couldn’t quite gauge how he was feeling, other than shocked. “I did…we’re having another baby.”

              “HUH..” Cory mused out loud as he eyed his wife. They hadn’t necessarily spoken about having another child. The only child of theirs that they had discussed having was Auggie. Riley was a wanted surprise. Auggie was planned. They were seven years apart...And now so was their third baby. It would be seven years younger than Auggie. It was interesting how things worked. “I didn’t realise I could still do that, so, props to me I guess.” he spoke softly as he moved his fork to sit properly on the bench before making his way around the counter to stand next to his wife, placing his hands on her arms, rubbing them softly as he spoke. “This is very interesting and definitely a new challenge. How do you feel ABOUT IT?”.

   He was getting better at this, better at compromising with her, convincing her — she was actually kind of proud, he’d obviously learned from her. Topanga had pretty much always been able to convince anybody to do anything, but she could deal with his proposal…unless he was intending to say one thing and do another, she could accept his terms. She did love him after all, at least a little bit more than cake. “The court has considered what you have to say, and I think we can accept your terms, Mr Matthews,” she grinned, grabbing two forks from the silverware drawer ( who needed to cut it into slices, after all? ), holding one out to him. “I know there’s been a lot of stress lately, a lot of big changes in our world. I spent a long time trying to decide whether moving to London was right for us, and I know we’re still adjusting to being here. Maybe we’ve been through enough changes, but just one more…” she paused, trying to remain nonchalant, as her fork poked at the cake. In truth, she wasn’t sure how any of them were going to take this, after all of the other changes. For Auggie and Riley, it might all be too much at once. “How would you feel if I was eating cake for two?”

        “WELL IF it pleases the court after my terms and conditions were accepted, then I believe it’s best to take this cake out of evidence and place it on the counter for all to enjoy.” he grinned in Topanga’s direction as he moved to the counter with the tray of cake in his hands. He was, getting better at convincing her, or rather trying to do so. More often than not he’d just leave it, knowing there was no point to it but now he was only doing it with the things he wanted. Or if he was just trying to tease her. Taking the fork that was offered in his direction, he took it as he put some cake on his fork. The object going towards his mouth and stopping, listening as she spoke. He was curious as to where this was going. Had something happened that clearly had gone over his head? Or did she tell him something and he’d forgotten it and she was just going to kill him? He just hoped it was the first option. Swallowing the cake that he’d put in his mouth, he turned his attention towards her as she finished. His fork hit the counter with a clatter as he stared at her. “I’m sorry my love, but did you just say you’re eating FOR TWO?”.

   It was so much easier to feel like the stress of the move was lifted when it was just the two of them laughing together. Their lives had changed so much, but it was easy to feel like they were the same people they’d been in high school when worries were pushed to the back of her mind. Her biggest concern here was the kids; was how they’d fair without Ava and Maya around, but when they were sleeping, they probably weren’t feeling so bad, it was easier to set the stress aside for the night. Perhaps a night like this was exactly what she and Cory needed; they didn’t need to go anywhere, they didn’t need to do anything fancy, they just needed to stop worrying for a little while. “Cory!” Laughter spilled from her lips, as she followed him from the bedroom, trying to keep her voice and footsteps as quiet as possible. “I have a better plan: you let me have the cake, and I’ll tell you something you’re hopefully going to want to hear.”

          FROM WHERE he was standing in front of the fridge having opened it, he turned around to face his wife with the cake in hand. She was a lawyer, a very hot and all his at that, but if she were trying to get him to hand over the cake with just saying she knew something he would love to hear, he was of curious. Just what could she use as bargaining for cake? That would be interesting. Shutting the fridge door with his foot, Cory turned towards her as he raised his eyebrow. “How about we compromise? There’s a huge chunk of cake here, enough for another slice each. How about, you just allow me to have two bites of this, then you can have the rest and still tell me what I’m going to want to hear?”. he propositioned. His sweet tooth wasn’t as big as Topanga’s. He honestly would be perfectly fine with only two bites of the cake, but that was because she would be eating it and it would make him want a BITE TOO.
