“Ah, ive had them stashed away for ages.” He shook his head. “Im afraid not. Righ r digusting, they are.”

“Really? Why is that?” she asked. It was strange for her brother to have muggle candy but to have kept it for a rainy day seemed even stranger. “Perhaps your supposed to eat them right away?” she suggested. “I’ve heard the preservatives muggles use aren’t very good for you. It’s not as though they have access to preservative charms though...” she said thinking the last part more to herself. “Anyways, I’d recommend asking someone who would know before going on judging them.” she giggled.

“Oi. Eyes up here, mate.”

“I didn’t mean to offend. I simply adore your shoes.”

Josiah quickly stuffed his hand in his pocket, hiding away the pills he’d just taken. “Oh, these are just some of those, ah, Muggle, Tic-Tac things.”

Cosette made a puzzled face tilting her head to the side curiously. “Where in the world did you get muggle candy from? Do they taste any good!”

“I wish Daphine would bring me live animals, but I presume she’d be jealous if I played with another animal in her sight. She’s a needy one,” Tristan smiled. “A funny kind of love it most definitely is. Ah, I’m Tristan Blake,” He gently took her hand, giving it a small shake.

“Some people are worth getting jealous over I believe.” she told.  “That’s a lovely name- you’re a Griffindor?” she asked looking down at his tie. She quite enjoyed Griffindors, from afar of course but she truly did.

“Yeah, but I’m alright. Not a scrape on me, see?”

“As it should be. Did you have fun then?”

“Why else would you be my best friend?” He asked with a laugh. “I mean, what choice do we have?”

“Mmm” she hummed as if having to really think about it. “You gave me that Pumkin Pasty that one time, this could just be my eternal gratitude.” she giggled. “The outside also works?” she suggested seeing the boy wasn’t all that inclined to go to the library.

“That’s okay, you know love me. Well, I can’t exactly be in your dorm so that doesn’t work.”

“Perhaps.” she giggled lightly. “Oh, don’t be silly.” she said hitting his arm in playful kind way. “The library?” she suggested.

“We need to hang out because I haven’t seen you all summer and I can do my homework later.”

“You twist my arm, Matty. How shall we hang out then?”

“Orrrrr, I could do it later and we can hang out now.”

“Hmm, true, but all play and no work makes for no good things. But... I have finished my homework already so if you’d like to...”

“Of course. You know this happens every year, Cosie.”

“Which doesn’t make the funny ritual any more safe.”

“Naw, I wasn’t pushed into the Black Lake on my first day back. Why would you think that?”

“Are you alright.”

“I have no ambition to do this homework. Any spell for homework doing itself?”

“Shhh, just do your homework so we can do something later.”

Tristan noticed the girl smiling at him, and he quickly smiled in return. “I think she is…She likes to leave me dead animals around my room, and i assume those are presents for me. I’ve seen you around but I don’t think we’ve formally met, have we?”

Although the idea of dead animals would surly disgust some Cosette was quite antiquated with the ritual. “Shadow, my cat, she’s in my compartment at the moment with my brother. She does the same though, although sometimes I can save them because she brings them alive, so I can play with them I presume. It’s a funny kind of love but it’s quite definitely love.” she acknowledged. “Yes, or rather no, I’m Cosette Wright.” she said offering her small hand.

“We are nothing a like,” Joseph drawled, flicking a bit of lint from his robes, “Yes perhaps our families move in the same circles, and I’ve indulged mine long enough that’s for certain but I, little Wright am my own man. I don’t forsake what makes me an individual, I have friends in other houses but I don’t abandon my own.” He sipped at his whiskey watching her closely, catching the flicker of hurt move over her face. “Ironic that you were put in a house that is renowned for loyalty and yet you have none. That is the key littlest Wright; I have the courage and strength of mind and character to uphold certain traditions and the wisdom to ignore those the simply hinder you. No, I’d have no use for your brain even if you did share you seem to have.”

The girl shifted her eyes to the side for a second dismissing his gesture that seemed to show he didn’t care much about the present conversation. “Yes, I believe we’ve known each other long enough for you to have the knowledge that my name is Cosette as well.” she said sticking out her chest a bit even though she felt awkward doing so. She was well aware that she had not touched the main points of the conversation though. “I believe you mean well by saying what you do but my loyalty lies to my family. Do you hold a sense of loyalty to anyone?” she asked truly wondering. This Joesph was new and she didn’t know what to expect from him.

Tristan smiled, looking admirably at Daphine and her white and brown feathers. He never would have thought barn owls were so beautiful until he saw Daphine. “I do try and care for her as best I can. She’s a bit difficult, stubborn she is, but I love her.”

Cosette finally went to look at the boy for the first time since their encounter and her admiring smile turned into an almost silly bright one, which she quickly tried to disband. It’s truly not her fault that she hadn’t expected such a cut eboy in front of her was it. “I’m sure she must be grateful.” she said still smiling yet not sure what to add on to the impromptu conversation.

“Oh my, are you okay?” Tristan said, running over. “I’m really sorry this happened, Daphine’s normally really tame..”

Cosette opened one eye slightly before opening both as if peeking to see if the flying blurb her way was going to come once more before she heard the boy’s voice. “Just fine.” she let out but her attention was now directed more at the owl who she had finally received the time to admire. “She’s rather lovely. You must take exceptional care of her.” she noted not quite noticing her words where said aloud.
