Iron Lung pins ❤️ If you preordered these look out for an update soon. Leftovers available at a later date.
oh noooo what have i doneeee (new warmup muse discovered??)
I haven't seen anyone do this yet and I think it is a painful void in the Project Hail Mary fandom. Guys. Put Grace in a space ball on Erid and have him break down Rocky's door and roll around knocking things over. Cmon guys.
"Wow Rock you live like this? Junk all over the floor and parts everywhere? Very messy."
"Rocky is not enjoying Grace's games, Statement."
There I saw you standing
Must have been a holy light
Mark 'Markiplier' Fischbach as Simon 'The Convict' Iron Lung (2026) dir. Mark 'Markiplier' Fischbach
Look, tits aside, this man is DIRTY.
Like, black patches starting to build up on skin type dirty. Dude hasn't showered in several weeks.
I know Simon just got back from prison, but that aside, the standard level of grime on people must fucking suck. The COI folk were certainly cleaner than him. It must be pretty bad in a scarcity crisis like this.
But, aside from being freshly banged-up, I actually don't see any major scars (that line looks like an impact with the wall/hot pipe. We know the Iron Lung's walls were hot enough to boil condensation drops).
Since we know about how effective the Butcher was... yeah that checks out. I seriously doubt he's been overpowered often, considering literally everyone else is in some kind of calorie deficit (supposedly), and Simon is massive. Any time I try to explain that, it doesn't point to anything good:
Simon either stole enough food to stave off withering away in jail (which means he was playing dirty in there... I don't put that past him)
The COI was genuinely feeding him (I don't buy it)
He was eating good on Eden (equally as frightening to think about), and didn't spend much time in COI custody before getting put in the Iron Lung
Paraphrasing Markiplier, he wanted Simon to have a "rugged survivor build", hence getting into the best shape of his life for the role.
That also implies Simon was lowkey in the best shape of his life for this expedition (or possibly Filament's Battle). Dude was absolutely hogging the gym in prison. I laugh at the thought of Simon walking in there and everyone else getting up to leave immediately because they don't want to deal with his erratic bullshit LOL
"Oh god, it's him. Scatter!" /j
I've always imagined that because humanity just couldn't afford ressources on improductivity and losing abled bodied that "prison" was actually hard labor. But like... hard and hazarduous labor.
Mining on rogue asteroids
Carrying cargo around
Cleaning fuel tanks and other systems
Repair work in dangerous area
Etc.
That always made much more sense to me than keeping a guy in a cell for months or years (depending on your timeline of choice) without using the ressources they were "investing" in him by way of space, air, water and food.
So, a la Jean Valjean (Simon Valsimon?... he did worse than steal some bread tho 😅) He got buff working those jobs eagerly because he wanted to make amends. And there might have been a additional food as a reward system based on results to explain that he was able to maintain his muscle mass even through starvation times.
Also bet he was kept mostly in solitary when not on duty 'cause of the controversial nature of his crimes, which would explain that he was left generally unscathed.
(Or maybe he ate the other inmates for power and manboobs 👀. The C.O.I appreciated that because it save them so much on food, omg! 🙌😩/j)
Why is then original post talking like an Eridian?
Grace notices the way Adrian treats him differently than Rocky. Like, differently from the way Rocky treats him, but also differently from the way they treat Rocky. Differently from the way they treat any other Eridian, really. They change their voice to speak in soothing tones; gently excited and encouraging at times, or patiently correcting, or something so soft and fond it makes him ache for something he cannot name.
It isn't until he overhears a cluster of new parents talking to their pebbles that it clicks. Adrian speaks to him like a child -- not in the talking-down-to-him or patronizing way (at least. not very often.) -- but like he is something precious and fragile, that needs teaching and is worth protecting.
Rocky will fight anyone if he thinks Grace is in danger or being disrespected. He makes sure the world is safe. But Adrian is the one making sure Grace feels safe.
#grace is their platonic third and/or adopted child but no matter what he is family
science teacher besties!!
i feel like they would get along SO well plus ms. frizzle could solve the petrova problem in one episode easy
I know that having Colt as this protective a little aggresive cool old brother and Ryland as this nerdy anti-social and clueless little brother is nice. However, there are here some details and ideas that could be also nice to have into account:
They are both losers. It isn't just Ryland been the loser, no no, Colt is also a loser, he is a loser that knows how to do cool things? yes, but he is still pretty much a loser.
If Ryland rants about science, Colt rants about movies and special effects.
If Colt is physically violent, Ryland is or at least was verbally violent. Colt through the movie kinda of tries to keep the things calm, he knows how to fight, he doesn't like to use it as a first option. Ryland, at least in the book, was a infamous diva that would through comments here and there to the other scientists, nothing too aggresive, but clearly judgemental.
Can we please acknowledge more the fact that Colt is a hopeless romantic? a very awkward hopeless romantic? He is not smooth, he doesn't know how to really flirt, if Jody wasn't already interested in him, Colt would have very little chance, not because he is not handsome or kind, just because he is a yearner.
Colt also was crying in his car listening Taylor Swift, let him be the loser he is.
Colt may have some kind of media training, Ryland, until he become a teacher, may have no real filter.
Colt does dangerous things in his stunts, but less not forget that Ryland is literally working with astrophage dairy.
Ryland, at least in the movie, had mention to have received pills from strangers before, meaning that he could have had a very wild time in colleges. He could even still using recreational drugs but in a more control way.
Let them be brothers, like, I know that the connections and bond are beautiful, but sometimes siblings would be evil with each other because it is what it is, sometimes the Cain instinct is too strong. It can be just Colt been teasing and Ryland been a poor victim, no, siblings tease each other, maybe not in the same way, maybe not at the same degree, but it is an exchange. Colt steals Ryland glasses? Ryland has show Jody an embarrassing photo of Colt as payment. Ryland has been sharing too many embarassing things to Jody? Colt has to show everyone that video of Ryland with 16 years old, practicing his discourse for when he wins the nobel prize in front of the bathroom mirror. It is fair play, because that is how fair play works for siblings.
Let them be scary, twins have been a scary element in the popular culture since The Shinning, and Colt knowing this would totally take it to his advantage to make jokes around with Ryland.
They are BOTH salty, it isn't just Ryland the one with back luck, the bad luck runs in this family, it is part of their DNA.
Also it would be nice to have more Ryland as a tired older brother, and Colt as a gremlin little brother, but I will not push it.
Extra + Rocky:
I think that Rocky would be amazed by the idea of human twins, he would be excited to learn more about Colt and how he was, but in the end he would realize that Colt is also a loser and think that maybe humans in general are just losers (They are not, it is just the genes in this two.)
Also if Rocky and Colt ever meet, Colt be 100% determinated to recreate the scene of the bike of E.T with Rocky.
If Rocky meets Jody he would finally meet a person who is not the disaster twins and understand that humans can actually be kinda of cool.
Extra + Simon:
This has nothing to do with the rest of this post, but can be make more content of Simon and Jody Moreno been friends? Like I think I have never see or read an interaction between this two. It is always Jody telling Colt to relax and let Grace decide with who to be, but there is no real exchange between them.
I wold love Simon and Jody sitting down and talking about the twins just to realize that somehow the Coltland twins have the share ability to get involve in astronomical problems, to be presumed dead and look good while doing so.
Family bonding <3
