the thing about duelist kingdom is that it is Not A Real Tournament and pegasus does not give a single shit about it as a tournament. "why is everyone just sleeping outside" "why are there no facilities whatsoever" "why does yugi just get to bring five extra people" "no penalties for dumping your opponent's cards in the ocean" "jonouchi and kaiba were not invited but just sort of jump in" "why is there no food for these children" "isn't all of this extremely dangerous" LISTEN it's not a real tournament. Maximillion Pegasus has spent the bare minimum amount of money and effort to create what plausibly maybe looks enough like a tournament so that he can steal from Seto Kaiba. this is the card game tournament equivalent of a laundromat that's a front for a money laundering operation. if any actual laundry gets done there it is entirely incidental because that is not its purpose and the owners do not actually give a shit about clean clothes
