Ariel dress progress

The next thing I worked on was the shoes, using cling wrap and tape I made the pattern then transferred it to paper adding the seam allowance, then sewing the two edges together before glueing and sewing the bottom then the top to the shoe. After I added rhinestones to complete.

Then I decided that the one petticoat wasn’t enough so I made a 2nd. The first photo has only half the total length pinned. The second is that length laid out and then folded it in half, the third photo is the completed skirt with 24 m of ruffles sewn in

Ariel dress progress

The sleeves took about 2 hours each 🤣 I decided to add polyfill to make them look more poofed but it made it very hard to sew 🤣

Then I had to sew the sleeves onto the corset all by hand again!

Then I pinched the top of the corset and sewed it in this pattern^ and I then attached a hand painted purple shell that I had glued a brooch backing onto

I then sewed 2x fabric tubing for the top and bottom of the corset, I hand stitched both onto the corset also!

Ariel dress progress (attempt 2😭)

After sewing the longs side togerther and turning right side out I attached the invisible zipper to the back

Then onto the sleeves and over skirt

The first few attempts at the sleeves didn’t turn out the way I wanted but in the next post I’ll show what I did

The over skirt is made up of 4 pieces they are

2 assorted knits mint from lincraft and 2 fairy organza from spotlight. They were sewn together with a double hem and then turned inside out as the edges looked better this way

Then I had to figure out how to attach the over skirt to the dress, I decided to use snap tape, tiger grib glue, needle and thread (so much hand sewing 😂)

I then cut off all the extra tape that you could see after it was all put together and then sealed the edges with glue

Ariel dress progress

Wow it’s been a while since I last posted! I have finished this dress now and I will be posting more soon!

First I started by cutting 2x each pattern for the top and then the 3 panels for the skirt along with the waist band

I then double hemmed and sewed the skirt together and added a zipper and a hook to complete it

After the skirt I worked on sewing the two corset top pieces together

Both together without sewing and boning in between

Boning added and then pinned right side together to sew around the outside leaving the sides open for the zipper

I started by grabbing my trial from my maleficents corset and added extra fabric and pulled the pattern tighter and adjusted it to match ariels, I then when over the patterns with clear plastic and I then transferred them to fabric, cut x2 of each and sewed togerther, I then added eyelets to make sure it would fit snugly for a zipper finish.

After the corset it was onto the Puffy long sleeves!

Gosh I hate sleeves so much and they gave me a lot of trouble but it was worth it!

After the sleeves were done I started the over skirt!

I decided that I didn’t want to connect it to the skirt but to the corsets instead

I original cut two panels again but once again it was still not wide enough! But it’s alright I grabbed some extra left over fabric and adjusted the pattern!

Now all the trials are done and it’s onto the real deal!!! Yay can’t wait!!

I’ve also decided I’m going to be making an extra under skirt ontop of the petticoats to give it a more full looking bottom!!

Ariel dress progress:

This hoop skirt worked pretty well! I just needed to add a bit more strength 💪 to the top hoops

I cut some poly pipe to fit over the top of the boning and I taped them in place

Next ting to do was to make the Petticoat!! I had my lovely helper Rupert help with the pattern and cutting out.

After everything was cut I pinned togerther and sewed, I then grabbed ALOT of soft white tulle and added 4 layers!

After petticoat it was time to plan the main skirt!!! I originally started with only two panels joined at the side, I pinned and tried the fit over the hoop skirt and petticoat, I wasn’t anywhere near wide enough so I cut another panel and pinned and sewed it leaving at 15cm gap on the back panels for a zipper. I gathered the top of the skirt to a ribbon to fit around just below my bust. Same technique as the petticoat this create small ruffles that just look so pretty!

After the main skirt I started work on the Corset! More details in the next post!

Ariel cosplay progress

Yuki helping me whilst I try a new type of hoop skirt!

I started by cutting fabric 3m by 30cm, ironed both long sides by 1 1/2 cm then folded in half the ironed again

Pinned the two short sides together, right side in and sewed with a 1cm seam

Turned in right side out by folding it on itself and then pinning the long sides together to make a tube

I then folded the fabric to find 8 equal points, then I cut 8 lengths of twill tape and pinned 1 1/2 cm into the 8 points. Don’t sew in yet!

Cut elastic to fit around waist, sew into circle then fold finding 8 equal points. Pin the twill tape to points with 1cm seam. Sew in place

Put over body form and check measurements are correct. Now the channels on the bag, start with a 1/2cm seam from top LEAVE A 20cm GAP! Then 2 1/2cm from top (leave gap!) then 2cm from bottom (leave that gap!)

I then inserted wire just to see the general shape, my bottom wire is 3m followed by 2.9m

More progress of the hoop skirt that didn’t work 😅 I also added lace at the bottom just to make it look pretty in case the dress got flipped up

Omg making this hoop skirt is killing me, but gotta learn! My first attempt didn’t end up working BUT that’s alright I learnt a lot from it!

I started by making where the hoops were going then cut the shape, sewed together and hemmed the top and bottoms with a 1/2 cm seam, then hemmed again leaving a 4cm seam to turn into a channel for the draw string and bottom hoop.

I then cut strips of fabric around 8cm thick then joined all the strips together making a giant roll 🤣 looks like toilet paper 🤣 I then hemmed both side to make total width 6cm, I ended with roughly 16m. This was then ironed flat, pinned and sewn into the skirt at desired hoop placements, after adding the hoops I realise I forgot to include the curve in my placement of the channels 😂 oh well you win some you lose some.

I have now started a new hoop skirt! And this one is by far working a lot better 😆

Maleficent staff

I had so much fun making this!

I first tried to use an old Xmas tree decoration, but I didn’t like the finished look.

Next I cut a hole in the cardboard pole and thread the lights through to the top, I then duct tapped it in place. I then wrapped it in wire, starting from the bottom and made my way up, I made sure to leave a gap so that I al able to cut the battery pack out if I need too.

Then came paint! I didn’t have any green so I had to mix my own! Fun times! I used about 3 different shades of green, yellow white and black. I didn’t want any stroke lines so I used some cut offs from the left over foam from the horns.

After everything was painted and dry I cut a small hole in the bottom and glued around the edges. After the glue was dry I then got tape and tapped it to the top of the staff.

I’m very happy with the finished staff, next time I would definitely find a cleaner way to glue the plastic together, but there’s only so much I can do at 2am 🤣

Maleficent cosplay!

Got my horns done and attached to a head band 😊😊

Put everything on and my lil helper Rupert decided to hide under my skirt

I really love the outcome of this dress! Might add a few more details down the line but still really happy with my first ever completely hand made dress!

Maleficent horns!

Today I decided to have an attempt at making maleficent horns!

I started by printing a pattern and then tracings on some foam that I had lying around my house, using a pair of scissors I cut and shaped the horns the best I could.

After I had them both cut and shaped I then covered in thick black duct tape so that when I added the wire it wouldn’t dig in too much.

After wrapping in wire I then grabbed my thin electrical tape and started from the tip of the horns and made my way down to the base.

After both horns were wrapped I grabbed a brown wig and started to style it to suit, I then grabbed some wire and tried the placements, I still have to connect the horns to a head band and fisnish styling the wig 🙃🙃

Maleficent dress

This is what the back looks like now it’s all sew together, the ribbon will be replaced with a dark purple.

I started to make the cape, I got a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and modified it to suit maleficent😋

I originally started with one, making it from a charcoal curtain, ribbon elastic, cloak fastener and an amethyst crystal.

I did love the overall outcome and look but hated the colours, so I went back to my trusty fabric store and bought, black sheer fabric, black ribbon and a black pendant. I made another cloak but I didn’t like how light it was, it had no weight to hold it in place and was flying everywhere.

Next I decided to put them both together, the curtain would add weight and be on the inside and the black sheer would add the colour and smoothness.

I decided to use both the cloak fastener and the black pendant instead of the amethyst, after sewing everything together I measured out 2 lengths of feathers and sewed onto the collar but left enough room so it can still stretch.

Maleficent Dress

Getting there slowly, had to take some time off due to work!

The eyelets were surprisingly easy to add into the back, just make sure to make yourself a stencil so that they’re in the same place on both sides!

I had to re pin and let out some of the skirt as it was over lapping too much,

The yellow ribbon will be replaced with a rich/dark purple!

You can see in the last picture that there’s a bit of extra fabric when tied together, I’ve just sew the base of the corset together and folded it over to one side and sewed, pic will be in the next post!
