Un pequeño resumen de la Met gala de 2026 en Nueva York
1918 January, The Woman’s Magazine fashion plates. Note the continuance of “the Russian influence” in some of the dresses (seen in the Louise Dresser plate earlier). Ethnic and “peasant” styles will be seen throughout the late teens and through the twenties.

Oscar-winning 14th century costumes in Franco Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet” (1968)
Sumptuous textures, lots of fiery reds and oranges to reflect the story’s themes and also a lot of particoloured items (where two sides of a piece of clothing are different colours, a.k.a ‘mi parti’)
Would you believe that this beautifully embroidered blouse, worn by Megan Follows as Anne Shirley in the 1987 𝑨𝒏𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒗𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒆𝒂, did not originate with that production? This incredible piece was more famously worn by Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy Honeychurch in the 1985 film 𝑨 𝑹𝒐𝒐𝒎 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝑽𝒊𝒆𝒘. It’s been worn many more times over the years and was recently sold at auction for £6,240. Learn more at Bit.ly/VicEd050

The elderly woman Barbie shares a smile with is not Barbara Handler, but in fact costume designer, Ann Roth.
Ann Roth has had a long career as the costume designer for a wide range of movies, including one of my favorites, Mamma Mia!
