My job is rather technical. It involves databases and engineering...I'll stop there, you're already yawning. But today, I received some paperwork for a project at a Zoo that made my afternoon:
Specialty lighting! For the Primates!
Is it ok that I want to go to the zoo just to see the lighting??

I'm not going anywhere if there aren't magicians.
Last night. I wish I had more proof of it than a picture, the business card for a magician and a chocolate nugget.
Going to karaoke with friends has become a Tuesday night tradition. Every week, we gather at a bar in Old City so I can sing and they can cheer me on (I have great friends) and we can all people watch.
In the 5 months we've been going, not only have we become regulars, but we also know the other regulars. Not to the point where we all sit together or something, but in this roundabout way, we acknowledge them. We're all connected through this love of karaoke-style singing and this Tuesday night outlet.
There's even a bit of regulation to how things happen- we arrive and leave at the same time every Tuesday, sit in the same/similar seating every time. The group can change from week to week, but we make it happen and I get to sing (again, I have great friends).
Last night might have kicked things up a notch. The following happened:
-I was asked to duet with one of our favorite regulars Karaoke Dave. -There were balloon animals and instruments being created -By a man who was also a magician -Who had a flaming wallet -And did card tricks I'm still wondering about -Balloon instruments led to back-up bands for some singers -And more dancing than my eyes could handle -I sang Jump Around, which encouraged the audience to do just that -The audience joined me on stage -Dean the Pirate came in and sat with the magician, and the guys seated next to us got quite excited because they thought he was ALSO a magician (he's not; showtunes are his thing) -N*Sync and Backstreet Boys were represented (it was 90s night, I think!)
All that in two hours! No wonder I love Tuesdays. And my friends.
This is me singing Jump Around. Metal Steve is behind me, jumpin'.
Passport to...love?
I did it.
I applied for a passport!
Remember when I made this list?
I'm still working my way through that list, and today, I checked number 11 off the list!
The reason? This road trip.
Special thanks to Tony Q and the USPS for all your fine work! And for having an awesome lobby.
She comes back
No excuses for you, just some pictures and words to show you how I've been spending my summer.

Lunch today: Pasta with garlic scape pesto and browned turkey with seriously sharp cheddar and a white peach.
The peach was the star of the show; I picked them up in South Jersey at Mood's when I was blueberry picking this weekend.

If you missed last night’s episode of the Colbert Report, it’s definitely worth finding on Hulu. All of it was amazing. But even if you did see it, you probably missed this extra song from Florence & the Machine, posted on Colbert’s website. Check out this performance of Cosmic Love. Not as chill-inducing as it was during Monday night’s concert, but still a gorgeous rendition. (the embed code isn’t working, so use this old fashioned link)
Agree with Jackie!

(You can see all the sew-along posts here. Don’t worry, non-sewers! I’ll have other types of posts up during the sew-along too.)
Hey, now we’re going to sew on the tiny pocket what gives this pattern its name. Here’s our little pocket piece:
Now you’ll need to zig-zag stitch around...
Great pocket tutorial! The final stitching instructions are brilliant, can't wait to try that!
americanroutes:
William DeVaughn’s “Be Thankful for What You Got”.
Famous for the lyrics:
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac Gangsta whitewalls, TV antennas in the back You may not have a car at all But remember brothers and sisters You can still stand tall Just be thankful for what you got. Diamond in the back, sunroof top Diggin’ the scene with a gangsta lean
Hear this song and more on Philadelphia Sounds.
Great show about Philadelphia and music.
Listen to: Jill Scott
You will not be disappointed.
