30 Day writing challenge: Day 2
“Where are you ladies rushing off to? the cop questions, twitching his large, stereotypical mustache.
“Oh, just trying to get, uh, home!” I stammer, immediately feeling a sharp pain in my side from the elbow of a disapproving Cass.
“Uh huh,” he nods, suspicion in his tone. “What’s in the bag?”
“Tampons and makeup, you know, young girl shit.” Cass sasses, moving forward a little to place me behind her.
His brows furrow into a glare at her words. “I’ll need to be seeing that bag now.”
“Not without reasonable suspicion,” her voice is as stern as his.
My nerves are at max and I feel myself nervously sweating, my heart beating notably in my chest. She could be so stubborn, I didn’t want to get into trouble worse, but wouldn’t dare argue her.
Almost on queue, his shoulder radio blared, “We have a report of two young, Caucasian females, average height, blonde and dark haired, robbing a convenient store just off of Main street.”
A dirty smirk instantly went across his face, “This is Officer Davis, I believe I have the two girls with me right now, over.” He reaches his hand out for my bag. “I believe that’s reasonable enough.”
I slowly pull the bag off my shoulder, my stomach lodged in my throat, knowing of all the contraband in there that should not be.
Taking it from me hastily, he searches the bag, shaking his head. “You ladies have quite the score here. I feel it’s safe to assume you’re under 21.” He pulls out our liquid fire we had been sharing happily not even an hour ago.
“I think based off the clearly stolen goods, as well as the illegal possession of alcohol and cigarettes, and even something else if I dig deep enough, it’s time to take you ladies in.”
He begins to reach for his handcuffs when Cass springs into action. “Look, hey, come on man, we don’t have to do that.” She steps towards him, slowly to not seem threatening. “Come on,” she purrs, biting her lip a little, “Can’t we work… something out?” She twirls her dark hair around her finger, then drags it down to her mouth, sliding it in seductively.
“Cass, no, he’s like, old enough to be our dad,” I hush whisper, even though I’m sure they could both hear me.
Her emerald eyes shoot daggers at me, then soften as she turns back to him. “What do you say, daddy?” she reaches slowly, cautiously to touch him softly on the arm.
In my gut, I felt we were just making it worse. Soliciting to yourself to a cop has to be illegal. You don’t need to be savvy in law to know that that is not right. With the added fear of him being pissed we’re minors, I feel the doom falling on me. On someone of low authority, this would work. Cass was curvy, thin and one of the most beautiful beings I’d ever known. Her think, onyx hair flowed half way down her back, and her lips were the perfect half crescent moons. But her piercing green eyes were the most stunning. Still, this was big game she was trying to take down.
Officer Davis cleared his throat, throwing a quick glance around the empty street around us. After a moment of strong contemplation, and Cass sliding her tongue seductively across her lips, he leaned his head down to his shoulder radio, clicking the button to speak to the other end, “Suspects clear, I’ll keep my eyes open, over.”
A muffled response came through the other end. I couldn’t make it out, the world seemed unreal right now. It was almost like a movie, not real life, as she took him by the hand and lead him into the alley we had just emerged from. The same alley we came from so many times before.
The lump in my throat became more present, and I had to run to a decorative tree on the sidewalk and lean for support as the acid and sludge that filled my stomach made it’s way to the surface. I coughed and hacked as my burning vomit came from my nose and mouth in large heaves. The idea of my beautiful friend, doing what she was doing. That we were in this situation. What the fuck were we doing here? This was the question that always plagued my mind now. Was this how I wanted to live? Was this even really living anymore?
I place a finger to one of my nostrils, blowing hard to get the vomit out of my nasal passage. I felt my face was warm and wet, and it just occurred to me I was crying. I just wanted this to be over. I wanted us to be in our spot on the grass, laughing and not doing this.
It felt like forever, but I felt a hand on my back soon. “Oh, babe,” I hear her soft voice as her arms embrace me from behind. “It’s okay, sweetie,” Her head was on my shoulder now, and I leaned my head against hers. “It’s okay,” she swayed from side to side.
I glanced down the street just in time to see the officer emerging from the alley, his pants being zipped up as he turned to return to his vehicle.
“I can’t believe you did that, you didn’t have to…” I began, my voice cracking.
“Hey, hey, shh. Don’t you worry. I’ll take care of us, I’d do more to protect you darling. Don’t you worry about that. What do I always say, huh? We need to take care of each other. We’re in it forever, right? Soul mates.” She places a kiss on my cheek and turns me around, tucking my hair behind my ear and brushing tears from my face.
I nod wiping my nose on my sleeve, letting my eyes meet hers. “That guys a scumbag,” I insist.
She nods, smirking slightly, “They always are.”
