Couponswala has recently seen a rise in user traffic and impressions.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a process by which a website gets improved organic traffic by following the links on a search engine results page (SERP). SEO plays a vital role in improving a website’s visibility when a potential user searches on a given search engine, which in turn can convert into tangible business results. In the past six months, we at CouponsWala have received over 2 million monthly impressions on our website. Our Alexa Website Rank (world) has also improved from 97k to less than 35k. All this was made possible through SEO. In this blog, we have put forward some key lessons learnt (7 to be exact) while playing the SEO game, which we think are important. Do note that this is but a small part of the overall SEO avenues available for a website to pursue.
Defining SEO Goals – Know Thyself
Most people go into SEO without an idea of what they want from search engines. Define SEO goals by first defining business objectives, which can be done by asking who we are and what we aim to achieve.
Reflecting on answers to these questions can open up a path for creating and optimizing strategies for ranking, features and future plans for the site. Measure important metrics that define and record SEO progress as these are the building blocks and the foundation to build a site on.
Creating Link-Worthy Content - Content is King
Content provides search engines information on who we are and brings relevant users to the site. Make sure to ask “Who the target audiences are?” and “What are they looking for?” and accordingly should provide meaningful and accurate information via blogs, links, media etc.
Feedback from the audience can give new ideas for content that can be used to update existing content periodically which will help boost rankings as Search Engines favour sites with fresh and relevant content.
Keyword Research – Finding Untapped Keywords
Type in the brand name that requires keyword research. Analyze all the suggested keywords that are provided by the tool to make note of all the important suggestions based on competition and volume.
Once that is done, find the general search terms that will prefix or suffix the brand keyword or main keyword for additions. Then individually add all the important search suggestions provided by the tool next to one another and try searching on the tool once again to get a broader list of keywords. This list will have gotten bigger.
SEO Audit – Know Your Mistakes And Learn From Them
Problems on existing pages like broken links, errors in page loading, domain issues, duplicate content issues etc., provide a target for improving SEO and rank, accordingly. Maintain a checklist for all the important SEO points to be covered and revisit the list every once in a while to make sure there are no issues.
Ever growing pages on the site can make checking every point in the SEO checklist cumbersome. Use tools that can make things easier. Google Search Console (Basic and Most Reliable), Alexa, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog can do the SEO audit for you and point out issues that the site has. Audits performed twice a month with at least 2 different tools can greatly help maintain SEO health.
Schemas – Speak The Language Of Search Engines
Schemas are a summary of what the webpage is made up of. It allows search engines to understand your page so that it can categorize and show SERPs accordingly. Show content in the form of rich snippets that help increase click rates by 30% for sites with schema compared to those without. The type of schema depends on the nature and content of the website. Common ones like Organization, Website and specific ones like Product, Offer, Article etc. are all available at schema.org.
Backlinks – Represent A “Vote Of Confidence” From One Site To Another
First, it must be decided how many backlinks are needed in a particular period of time. Backlinks (either a do-follow or no-follow) are very important in boosting the website.
Proper research of the competitor’s backlink is needed. Apart from this, start building backlinks on free websites available on Google. This increases the trust of the website when Google bot crawls the site. Don’t go for Black Hat techniques as the “Google Penguin'' update filters out these websites and a penalty might have to be faced. Make sure to always create linkable content.
Keep Up To Date On New Seo Updates
The Web is an ever-changing, ever-evolving arena. The rules of SEO can change at any time and its impact, if not identified in time, can cause a serious blow to SEO progress. Search engines update their algorithms to improve their user’s search experience, be it speed, relevance or quality. Search Engines, like Google, announce core changes in their algorithm allowing sites to adapt to these new rules. Staying up to date on these changes can provide an advantage over competitors when boosting rankings.
As more users transition into the digital world, SEO will determine your appearance on everyone’s screens and eventually, their minds. Staying ahead of the game can make your website known to the world through the power of SEO.
