there are few things she hates more than allowing others to see her cry. the track of tears down a cool cheek is a sign of weakness. a vulnerability which has , more often than not , cost her dearly. but when it comes to mia , her heart has allotted her a special place to feel. to process every emotion without fear or judgment. to sink deeper into every terrifying thing that had once made her so beautifully , tragically human.
“ my dad called , ” she choked out. words wrapped like a vice around a sob she’d fought so hard to hold deep within her chest. it’s not an answer either of them want to hear. a relationship that had always been rocky , at best. now sat on the brim of total destruction. “ well more like returned my call. — i just wanted to see if i could go home for my birthday , you know ? ” there’s a fondness that settles to her features at the mention of home. how desperately she longs to walk the streets of the quarter , early enough to see the sun peak above the buildings. “ i’ll give you one guess to how that went. ”
As soon as she mentioned her father twinge of something ran through her body, something she could only call RAGE. It wasn’t something Mia felt often, but there was a special place of hate that Mia never knew she was capable of until she heard about what her parents did to her, they’d always seemed so nice, but people can be deceiving.
When she choked out her woods Mia added a bit more pressure, as if to remind her that she was there, one constant in her life at this point Mia was beginning to think. She knew it was hard and didn’t know why they couldn’t be more understanding, she wanted to say something along the lines of fuck them, she doesn’t need them but if she could see her parents again, she would. “Screw them, we’ll take our own vacation down there. Get a hotel for a week and just have the birthday you deserve.” It was all Mia could really do.
