✨ OUT OF SPELLS // um !! wow new years was more busy than i thought it’d be but i hope everyone had a lot of fun !!
i guess i want to make a small announcement: due to the nature of my culture, i technically have a legal birthday and a traditional birthday. january 1st is my traditional birthday, which means that traditionally i am now eighteen years of age.
if anyone is uncomfortable with rping with me because of this, that is fine and you are free to unfollow me as you wish! however, my legal birthday is not until late march, so there’s a bit of a lee-way period i guess ??
even though i’m eighteen or soon to be eighteen depending on how you look at it, i will not be writing smut. i am still only okay with fade to black scenes.
thank you and have a nice day and new year !
╰☆╮→ ❛ HEY, Mirai? Um, the Nohrians do this thing today where they give friends and family gifts, so I, uh, got you something. ❜
Not wasting anymore time, she hefted her gift onto the table. Cheeks dusted a light pink, she grew a little embarrassed by all the stuff she got him. Inside the green box was half a dozen jars, filled with the ingredients he needed to make salves. After learning about his medicine making, she not only carried one with her, but she decided to get him a few things. There was a few liquid ones, a few grainy ones, and some plant ones. Most of the things were uncommon and a little rare, so that no doubt was a pretty penny. She didn’t care, she loved her retainer a whole awful lot and wanted to show her appreciation.
Besides that, he would find a little sack nestled in the corner. In that laid a handful of small wooden animal figurines. They were made of all different types of wood: oak, mahogany, and cypress to name a few. They were finely crafted, the greatest amount of care put into them. Of all the figurines, her favorite by far was the pegasus that seemed to sneak into the bag. All his favorite animals were represented, and even a few of her own.
❛ U-Um, I know this is kind of a lot… O-Or is it not enough? Uh, anyways, Merry Christmas or whatever they say and- um! Just know that I really do appreciate you! ❜
Letting out an exhausted breath, she offered him a small, embarrassed smile. She would seem to shrink a little, all too flustered for her own good. Shutting her mouth to not let anymore words escape, she hoped he enjoyed his gift.
Merry Christmas @covetae!!
— The past few days had been an overall confusing ordeal to the apothecary. He had seen quite a few folks, most notably Nohrians, getting ready and excited for something, grabbing trees and little trinkets galore. Frequent trips to town by just about anyone had been made, and it was certainly hectic when he had been doing some personal shopping.
He had been trying to puzzle it together for the past few days on his own, figuring anything could be figured out through close observation and inferences, but he still remained dumbfounded yet swept up in all the commotion.
The fated day had come, and he nervously adjusted the straps of his cabinet upon his back. How was one supposed to go about this? He still had learned very little independently, and--
-- Ah, there his liege was.
Her words felt familiar, and the slight worry set in as she began to explain-- was he the only clueless one? Still, his thoughts did not last long for his eyes became too preoccupied by the large assortment of items being presented to him. The sheer amount of them was startling at first, and his eyes grew wide, a change from his previously stoic expression.
He reached a hand out, picking up and examining each and every gift, admiring it from various angles and getting a real feel for everything Chiyo had prepared. The way his eyes gazed so heavily, one might think he was hypnotized by everything there, going through a mesmerized sort of trance.
He was silent during the ordeal before his lips cracked a smile.
❝ Heehee... It's more than I could have hoped for, Chiyo. ❞
He was still caught up in everything, but his gaze rose to meet hers.
❝ You sure make me feel special... Like royalty. Can you close your eyes? ❞
He didn't wait for an answer really, so whether or not she did so didn't really matter as he took off his cabinet from his back and opened one of its drawers. He took out a small clay figure of a familiar looking pegasus and held it out to the dark flier.
❝ Ta-daa... It's your Icarus. I went into town and had it made... I don't really understand this much either, but everyone seemed to be preparing gifts and I thought I had to give you one too. Um, Merry Christmas, Milady. ❞
➻ { continued from here. | @ofbraveskies }
— ❝ No, you couldn't have. I mean... unless you wanted to walk with a kind of waddle I guess... Heh, that'd be pretty cute. ❞
An airy chuckle escaped his lips though he did not mean to humiliate the dark flier. He had picked her up without too much thought. After all, it seemed all too natural a conclusion to try and carry her out of the woods. If he had left her to walk on her own, she might've made it worse.
❝ Alright, alright... Did you want me to give you a piggyback ride instead? ❞
He didn't stop walking, thinking it better to be efficient in his movements towards camp, but he gave the alternative proposal sincerely. Nevertheless, it wasn’t as if she were particularly so heavy that he might have difficulty with carrying her like this the whole way. She proved lighter than he had expected, and he had grown accustomed to this kind of practice with the various animals in his deeprealm.
What dies Mirai want for Christmas?
— ...What did he want? A puzzling inquiry really. He thought about it for a moment, pursing his lips in his deep thought. His long bout of pondering might make one believe he had fallen asleep, but his eye lids eventually fluttered open again, a small, pleased smile upon his visage.
❝ A book of Nohrian animals. I mean... I have to ask for something concrete, right? That book... would be second best. ❞
aim--and--reload:
With all the new recruits coming in, Nina couldn’t help but swoon over how many were men. So many to fantasize about with so little time. Could she help them to find love in her little stories in between training and countless battles against invisible soldiers? She’d damn well try!
Her latest victim muse had been Setsuna’s son. A few hours of scoping him out had already brought upon a plethora of ideas, her best one written while watching him spar.
Mirai’s hands shook as he turned to his opponent. Hours of training having exhausted all of his energy. The archer questioned if he’d even be able to muster up enough strength to return to his tent.
Ah, his opponent was drawing nearer. Surely the fight was lost. But, instead of a finishing blow he felt a strong hand placed upon his shoulder, one meant to convey fondness and understanding.
‘You did great today, Mirai! Had me on my toes even!’ Shiro beamed with pride at the younger man.
Mirai was perplexed! How could he impress-
“Gah!” The sudden light that entered her hidden space took her off guard. She shielded her eyes before the color drained away from her face at the sight of the young archer.
“Uh, no. O-of course not! I was just…prac-practicing my new stealth technique! Yeah, thats all! Now you soiled it. Way to go!”
— Listening to Nina's stammered explanation, he took a few moments to process her answer before he merely accepted it. Despite the fact that there were obvious points to prove the little white lie false, he knew not much of the Nohrian, and he couldn't see why he couldn't just blindly trust in her.
❝ ...Well, if I ruined it, then I guess you need a new stealth technique, huh? ❞
He seemed to have very little remorse in doing so, his tone slow and almost bored in sound, but as each syllable dragged out, he at least seemed to be giving her words some serious thoughts. He took a few paces back, assuming she might need it when she would presumably exit back into the light. The way he stood there idly clearly indicated he was waiting in any case for her to do something.
❝ Is there something you want in return? ❞
An implicit apology, he figured it was the noble thing to do. If he really had ruined something that would be useful to her repetoire as an archer who relied on stealth, then he needed to make amends. He could recall the lessons in honor he had been drilled on as a child, though to actually have to execute it was another thing.
requiiemwarrior:
❝ Shigure’s just fine. ❞
He had to insist, stopping to chat – it was true. If he wasn’t running off for some chore or job that needed to be done he was sneaking out of camp to have some personal space. Peace and quiet was something the youth would admit he did enjoy.
❝ I do, ❞ he nodded, visually seeming to brighten at the mention of a commission. What an honor! That someone should admire his work so much that they’d ask for him to create a portrait for them.
❝ Absolutely and entirely possible. What did you have in mind Mirai? ❞
— Good, he had heard correctly. He wasn't sure how to feel had his assumption been wrong and he was so anxious over nothing. He might have had to try and find something to be nervous over for the sake of not wasting that time; disappointment was an end result to be avoided.
❝ ...You must really like painting. You see, I'm... bad at portraying beauty myself. I saw the cutest creature in the woods and thought an accurate sketch wasn't enough for it. I can show you him. ❞
His last thought ended bluntly, his own bubbling excitement getting the better of him as he adjusted the straps on his cabinet and began to slowly march towards the nearest forest, fully expecting the sky knight to follow suit without so much as asking him to do so.
❝ Maybe you've met him already...? ❞
rebellefaire:
“ …I don’t drink enough to get intoxicated. ”
As if to accentuate the fact, he took a swig of his current drink and then slammed it against the corner. It’s true that he drank quite often but he never took enough to ever affect his stability in battle. He could drink an entire glass of wine and go into battle easily.
— ❝ I see... ❞
There was something surreal about watching the man drink, something that looked as if it were done to spite his inquiry, and then so definitively finish it with such a resounding noise that would normally cause any one soul to jump a bit in surprise. The apothecary budged not an inch, but he closed his eyelids in deep thought, contemplating what he just witnessed.
❝ I've just noticed many of the other soldiers seem so sick that they can barely function. Are you... superhuman? ❞
fatedforglcry:
“I got him from my mother. Simon and I have grown up together, actually. He was just a little thing when she gave him to me.”
Slender fingers moved to play with her hair nervously. Growing up, she’d never seen the other steeds people often had. She always felt a bit odd, being the only person in Hoshido other than her mother to have a wyvern. Yet another thing the locals pointed out when they spread their rumors.
— ❝ It must've been wonderful to grow up with him... I wish I had. You and your mother have a very unique perspective in the army. ❞
He spoke with a light in his eyes, reaching out a hand out of intrigued habit but retracted it when he realized what he was doing. He had no idea where to pet a wyvern and he supposed he might cause more trouble by trying.
❝ Maybe after this war, a better chance will present itself to find more of these outside of battle... ❞
wingfaire:
Fat, wet tears roll down Lilianna’s cheeks, though her wound is not that severe. The attack had mostly scared her; though now she supposed she knows not to pet a wyvern’s tail without the wyvern knowing… She holds out her arm to the apothecary, alabaster skin reddened from a startled claw. It isn’t deep enough to bleed profusely, though a few beads have popped up along the scratches.
“H-here. O-one of the babies scratched me…”
she sniffles, her other arm rubbing at her face to try to banish such baby tears.
— Nodding as he listened to Lilianna, Mirai gingerly took hold of her arm and inspected it. He didn't flinch or wince at its sight, though when he noticed she was attempting to wipe away at her tears, he stared dumbly for a few moments before he caught himself and took out a piece of cloth, applying some pressure to ensure that the beads of crimson did not grow into anything substantial.
❝ You can cry if you want. It hurts where they scratched, right? Souls cry when they're in pain... When you do, you can get help faster. I don’t see any problem in that. ❞
ofbraveskies:
╰☆╮→ MAYBE she sounded rude, but she really just wanted the best for him. She didn’t want him to spend his life doing something he might regret, and having to follow in his mother’s footsteps like it was his fate. Maybe it was, Chiyo couldn’t exactly say.
❛ Ah, I see. Well, I’ll have to hold you too that! ❜
She didn’t voice it, but another emotion dawned in her: pride. She was touched that he already felt so dedicated to her, enough to want to please her, and she thought for a moment that she was grateful she got him and not some other person. He at least seemed genuine.
Her maroon gaze stayed on him as he contemplated what to say. She went to say that anything would do ( he would have to share everything about himself eventually right? ) but she kept her mouth shut. She did to want to seem bossy after all. When he settled for animals, though, her own smile would grow on her lips.
❛ You study them? That’s cool! And yes I do, actually, he’s a black pegasus. Do you want to see him? It’ll only take a moment. ❜
Chiyo was glad he took such an interest in her trusty mount, and she was all too eager too show off her steed. Icarus would love the attention, that’s for sure.
— The relief that came when his prospective liege finally relented was tingling-- much like the euphoria that came upon the dawn of a breakthrough or a revelation. It was the first step in validation. He needed to get his foot in the door before he could prove himself.
His smile broke out into something larger. His expression, one that had previously been stoic, suddenly became much more easy to read. There was a daydream like quality to it, obscured only by the light that reflected off of his lenses.
❝ Ah, an ebony pegasus, is it? I admit... I've never seen one. Please show me him. ❞
Although he was a bit delayed in replying to her, sidetracked by his own excitement, he spoke as if he had never skipped a beat. He perhaps sounded pushy, but genuine curiosity engulfed him. Oh, how the stars have blessed him today!
ofbraveskies:
╰☆╮→ SHE heard of him too. While she knew it was mandatory for her to have retainers, to be protected, she found it completely unnecessary. She could protect herself, like she did before. Still, she couldn’t exactly fight it so she went with it.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Chiyo would turn around. Watching Mirai walk up, she noticed just how uncomfortable and rigid he was. Was he nervous? He shouldn’t be, she was one of the least intimidating people in the army. Maybe it was the skeptical look plastered on her face. Listening to him, her lips would upturn into a smile. Setsuna huh? Well, it must run in the family. Unless…
❛ Is this what you want? To be my retainer, I mean? I’m sure there’s a lot of better things you could do with your life than protecting me. ❜
She would pause, a similar pit forming in her stomach. Was he really going to waste his time on her? How foolish. Still, maybe he didn’t have a choice. She didn’t desire anything from him currently, except to know him better.
❛ Well, if you insist, I won’t hold it against you. Its nice to meet you Mirai. I don’t want anything, but maybe you can tell me something about yourself? And, please, just Chiyo is fine. ❜
— Raising his head after his piece, he watched Chiyo's expression, gauging her reaction. He could not say he was the most pleased upon hearing her response to his implicit proposal, but he supposed it was better than nothing. It just meant he would have to work to prove his worth to her and how willing he was to devote his life to hers.
❝ ...No, I don't think there is. My life goal is to become your retainer-- one you'd be proud to have. ❞
Perhaps it wasn't the most convincing arguement, but he spoke it from his gut. He closed his eyes, deep in thought as how to go about this. He didn't really come into this with a concrete plan past the initial introduction, a fact he was perhaps a bit disappointed in himself for.
Still, it seemed as if his prospective liege still had something to ask of him.
❝ About myself...? Hm... ❞
He paused for a longer time than was probably necessary. Lost in thoughts on what to say, he fretted over saying the wrong thing and losing her respect. He needed to think of something that might prove useful to her, but what? His salves, though they were his work, were not nearly great enough and the same could be said for his talent in battle.
...A-ha! When the thought struck him, he gained a light to his eyes and his mouth curved up into a small smile.
❝ I like animals. I've been trying to studying them since I was young. I heard you have a unique pegasus? ❞
fatedforglcry:
“You mean my Simon, yes?”
The princess looked up from grooming the creature with a hum. She was used to the full blooded Hoshidans asking about her mount. Asking why she didn’t ride a pegasus or a kinshi. It was her mother that had given her such a fascination. And she couldn’t see herself with any other mount.
“Isn’t he just beautiful?”
— Mirai gave an affirmative nod. So that was the name of the steed. He was very well aware of the habit of mounted soldiers to affectionately give names towards their animals, and he supposed Elizavet was no exception to this trend. He mouthed the wyvern's name, trying his hardest to learn of its pronounciation before he spoke up again.
❝ Yes, I would agree. I've never seen anything quite like it... They didn't have anything like this in my Deeprealm. Where did you find him? ❞
— When he had enlisted in the army, Mirai had expected to learn exclusively from his mother on the art of archery. Quickly, he was proven to the contrary. With bated breath he had observed his peers in combat, and he could not help but feel a spark of envy at the sight of the other bow-users. Furthermore, he was both captivated and mystified by the weaponry used by Nohrians and how they differed so much in appearance from his yumi yet still seemed to function virtually the same.
When he had finished training for the day, his arms had felt terribly sore from overload, and he had bid farewell to his sparring partner. Still, despite the fact that his peer had left, the room still felt as if there was a presence there, and he began to snoop around wordlessly and in such a fashion that looked almost aimless before he happened upon the hiding spot of the outlaw.
❝ Huh...? Nina? That's a strange place to be cooped up in. Were you there the entire time? ❞
{ @aim--and--reload }
— ❝ ...Erm, would it be inconvenient to ask for your assistance? ❞
Truth be told, Mirai felt hesitant to even recruit the aid of the Nohrian. It had nothing to do of ancestry, no-- though the fact that the other was of royal birth did not help matters. He felt as if he were going to be made a fool, fearing an answer at all. Perhaps this wasn't his place to ask. Perhaps he shouldn't be trying to expand his horizons in this fashion.
Still, he mustered up his courage and pressed forward.
❝ May I inquire on how you use a staff? ❞
{ @l0tanare }
— ❝ ...Is this your method of making remedies? ❞
Peering into the barrel, Mirai watched the samurai as he worked. The solution seemed strange to him, its odor causing the apothecary to wrinkle his nose but he tried to not make too much of a fuss over it. Any opportunity to learn was an opportunity to be seized, and complaining was too wasteful of one's time.
❝ What is this concoction's purpose? What area does it target best? ❞
{ @acerbicsamurai }
— ❝ Where did you get hurt? I shall try to do everything in my power to relieve you of your pain, no matter how small. ❞
Speaking to the young child as if she were the same age as he, Mirai looked upon her with a stern gaze. Whether or not he was actually concerned was difficult to discern, his expression vague about such a matter at best, but he at the very least seemed earnest. Taking off the cabinet resting upon his back, he began to open its drawers looking for salves and vulneraries.
