It's A Long Life // Sam & Steve
"Yeah, I’m getting that," Steve replied, giving an answering splash that was nearly twice as big. (It wasn’t his fault his hands were bigger.) "But biologically, Alpha scents are each unique, so I’m not sure how we’re going to be able to normalise you to something so…" He made a gesture with his hands.
"Pretty obvious I’m not a scientist, huh?" His smile was soft and self-deprecating. "But I can take you to a game, and I can sure as hell get you out of there if you need to." Muscle was what he was good for, after all. Well, that and punching Hitler in the face.
"So long as you’re comfortable with me, I mean." He ducked his head, acknowledging that being an Alpha sometimes made him the predator, even though he’d lived the other side of that equation too well to ever embrace the role. "Not a good plan unless we can accomplish that."
Sam put his arms up to guard his face from the water that the captain had splashed at him. He had deserved that a little, but Steve was really hitting the water to create that much splash. He shook out his wet hair and ran his fingers through it before giving a response. "I'm doin' jus' fine at the moment. Jus'...feelin' a little warm....is all....hang on a sec." He pushed himself a little bit away before going under the water for a moment to clear his head. He waited until the sensation went away before resurfacing. "Sorry, jus' tryin' to stay ahead of it."
He swam over to the side, pulling himself up to sit on the edge of the pool. Letting out a breath, he stretched his arms before settling. "I also don't think trust is the issue, Capn'. I've just never gone out of my way to put myself in a place where there will be a lot of alphas. I honestly don't know how long I'd last or if we would even get to see the game. It is a really nice offer, but maybe we can work up to a basketball game? I'd like to make as quick of an exit as possible if it's really needed."
