gambling is one of those things that makes me question some ideas surrounding drug legalization. which, I'm pro drug legalization but I think considering what does happen with drugs that are legal and with gambling when legal a lot of the ideas about how positive legalization of some substances is more idealistic than it is practical

if you are wondering how my week is going I left my snow boots behind and have to wear converse instead, the back tire to the car popped about two seconds after getting in (had to walk into town), I have to wake up in four hours and am wide awake, I gotta walk who knows how many miles tomorrow (no literally I don't know) carrying weight made obsolete by the whole lack of snow boots thing. I have a tight turn around for a last bus out of the city at 17:00 because God forbid a guy want to leave town past 14:00. no seriously. why do none of the other busses run past that on a week day no less.

people get into all sorts of arguments about what differentiates platonic vs romantic attraction and relationships outside of a vague "it feels different" and I don't really get why because the difference is like really obvious. maybe it's the over focus on actions. obviously if you focus on actions it gets too muddied because what about friends with benefits? what about kissing friends? what about cuddling? what about emotional intimacy? what about what about what about? if you talk about that people have way too varied opinions on what is one or the other for people to come up with an easy definition for anything. I literally know a guy who referred to hand holding as being a romantic activity. its crazy out there. The most defining difference between romantic and non romantic relationships (and in conjunction, attraction) is just exclusivity. like it's literally just exclusivity.

there are areas where exclusivity is wishy washy and not clear cut but there are definitely differences between romantic and non romantic endeavors when it comes to it. when you are romantically with a person you have your own personal list of what does or does not count as cheating and then don't want your partner to do those things with people and everyone else is like yeah that makes sense they shouldn't be kissing other people duh. conversely if you told a friend you don't want them seeing other friends everyone would think you were a fucking nut case and it wouldn't be normal like literally at all. In instances of non exclusive dating around it's generally seen as a time when you're y'know not really in a romantic relationship with anyone because you are seeing if that's something you should do or not, a trial basis that still has exclusivity as a possible idea for the future or something in the back of the mind or something you clarify won't be the case, you aren't actually romantically involved yet you're seeing if you will be. or you are dating around in a non romantic sense and there's no exclusivity and youre not considering it, because you are just having fun with people you don't consider that way, instead more focused on fun and non romantic sexual attraction. poly and open relationships also fit into this because they are also definitionally exclusive. that's the part that stops it from just being cheating. you have rules and guidelines about it you have to go out of your way to say hi we should be in an open relationship. or in a poly relationship people are being allowed into a broadened exclusive fold. like it's the primary separation and it's insane to me that people focus on other things like kissing or sex + feelings or some nebulous idea, when it literally is spelled right in front of literally everyone that it's just the idea of exclusivity.
