CrapCurator.com's demise is nigh
Due to Google's recent terrible decision to discontinue Google Reader, I'm afraid this site is going to meet the same fate. It might seem that one has nothing to do with the other, but honestly this site relies a lot on Google Reader. See, there are a ton of sites that I follow and browse through on a daily basis just for my own enjoyment using RSS in Google Reader, and I always wished there was a relatively easy way I could share the things I found interesting with others who might also enjoy them. I used to post those things on Facebook, but I'm sure lots of people eventually hid me from their newsfeed due to the volume of crap I posted on a regular basis, which I don't want. I realized not too long ago that by using a combination of Reader and a "recipe" on IFTTT.com (a site that lets you set up automated tasks that run when various triggers occur), I could add a tag to items in Reader and that content would then automatically be posted here. With this setup, populating this site required almost zero effort on my part beyond my casual RSS feed browsing that I would be doing anyway.
Unfortunately, IFTTT.com doesn't seem to currently have triggers in place for the various Google Reader alternatives that I've seen, and I honestly don't see myself making the (admittedly small) effort that's required to manually post stuff here (especially considering I don't think anybody actually looks at this site besides my friend Terry). So CrapCurator.com will likely soon be no more. I'll keep the site up until the hosting plan expires, so anything that's been posted up to this point will remain until then, but future posts will probably be sparse at best.
Sorry Terry, blame Google. Thanks for your support. It probably just means I'll go back to posting shit on Facebook instead, if anywhere.
