Will I make any sort of effort to see it? Probably not. Perhaps if I was channel hopping and came across it I might, but otherwise my care factor is pretty darn low.

It’s not because of the circus around BC, but rather because Series 3 was so ordinary that I have chosen to no longer support the program.

Obviously I’m not blaming a song or an artist for the crime, but the more social media and artists make hating cops acceptable, the more police funerals are going to happen.

Maybe you should educate yourself on the black on black crime statistics. Do blacks lives only matter when taken by police, but not their own. Where are your cries of injustice for those?

For the sake of accuracy, this isn’t exactly right; white-on-white incidence is higher than that of black-on-black crime. The white-on-white crime rate is very close to, but a bit lower than, the black-on-black crime rate. The disparity is explainable by much more concentrated black communities (the generational result of segregation and redlining policies); generally, criminals victimize people in their general proximity.

The concepts of “black people only care about black lives taken by police” and “black people ignore crime in their own communities” are myths (which you might know if you paid any actual attention attention to facts and statistics about black communities apart from what you’re fed). Among other points, the black-on-black crime rate has fallen significantly faster than the white-on-white rate over the past 40 years.

Also, it was 7 cops killed in the line of duty, which is important since one of them died in a plane crash. Also, of the two shooting suspects actually identified, one of them is white.

So maybe you should be asking white people why they aren’t doing enough to address the crime in their communities..? And maybe you should actually know your shit before telling other people to educate themselves.

Taken from SBCHS (I like to visit from time to time), with the conversation being around James Woods’ recent decision to sue a Twitter user who made allegations of drug abuse about him.

To me, the comment highlighted sums up what’s really at the heart of that blog: it’s not about calling out the hate and wanting it to stop, it’s about drama and the opportunity to be sanctimonious. (I won’t even go into the bullying that’s now at the heart of the blog.) It’s an outlet for them, which I suspect is one of the reasons it’s becoming steadily more bitter and hateful.

In the visual parlance of one of the great philosophers of our age, this is how I see the two sides. It’s not pretty.

As as aside, I wonder how many of the people frothing at the mouth about the Black Panthers romanticised the IRA? I don’t recall the Black Panthers blowing up Christmas shoppers, or targeting a Remembrance Day service. I don’t recall them them killing children or leaving a van full of explosives in a city centre. Still, movies were made glorifying them and money was raised in bars and clubs around the US to support “the boys”. But Beyonce taking pride in her community and showing outrage at outrages is beyond the pale, obviously.

I was shocked when told by our vet that black cats were often the last to be adopted. It’s so counter-intuitive that I still find it hard to believe: they’re so beautiful, how could you not love them?
