She revealed how she went from being a complete running beginner to completing a grueling 303km ultramarathon. July 2025 - Liane Siu Slaughter on MENTOR

Thank you to everyone who came to our last CreativeMornings!

Liane shared an insider look at the colorful characters in academia through her journey of climbing the academic ladder as a Ph.D. chemist across three continents, then making the bold decision to jump off and forge her own path as a freelance tutor, science writer, and career coach. Every step was shaped by mentors, sometimes too much, and when she became a mentor herself, mimicking previous mentors failed spectacularly. Through hard-won lessons from her career pivot and her work with Conscious Dance Hong Kong, Liane revealed a crucial insight: mentors are invaluable guides, but they should never drown out your own voice.

JUNE 2025 - Chris B on PUNK

Thank you to everyone who came to our last CreativeMornings!

From accidental beginnings to purposeful impact, Chris B - dubbed "the tattooed fairy godmother of the Hong Kong scene" by Time Magazine - shared her remarkable journey of founding The Underground HK and Musicians Foundation. With over 500 events under her belt and two decades of championing local talent, Chris opened up about her recent revelation about intention and its power to shape the music community.

Alison Chan, founder of Dear Harley, shared her brand's remarkable journey through the Covid period and its subsequent revival. Chan, who began her cake decorating journey a decade ago baking for family and friends, named her business after her nephew and transformed it into a professional venture focusing on designer cakes and desserts.

CreativeMornings - CYCLE

Happy New Year everyone!

Our December event at Soho House Hong Kong was a fantastic success! Jessica Naomi Fong, Founder & CEO at Common Farms, delivered an inspiring talk on the theme of CYCLE and its impact on sustainable urban farming.

Jessica shared her remarkable journey from the fast-moving F&B industry in Hong Kong to founding the city's first soil-based indoor vertical farm. She highlighted critical issues in the food industry, including food waste from spoiled imports, pollution from food transportation, and the challenges of tracing food sources and monitoring pesticide use. Her solution - Common Farms - represents an innovative approach to these problems, featuring a bespoke in-house developed closed loop irrigation system for water conservation and collaboration with CLP to optimize energy usage. The farm now supplies top chefs in Hong Kong and Macau with fresh, traceable produce.

Amassing a trove of graphic ephemera (30,000 artefacts), Wu's focus is Hong Kong's rich visual culture and heritage. 

To curate a collection and share it is to keep ideas alive. Wu's treasures trace the evolution of Hong Kong communication design from the 1930s to the present day. They map underlying patterns of evolution in Hong Kong's visual heritage and reflect ways of life, commercial activity, technological change, and shifts in culture and society.

In a world where things are easily discarded and forgotten, these seemingly mundane objects tell stories and provide much needed perspective. Remembering and recording the origins of ideas, and telling stories well are important means of building foundations to expand and iterate on those ideas while practicing respect and an understanding of value.

Our event event in June at Soho House Hong Kong was a fantastic success! Rishi Narang, Cyber Security Alchemist at Google, delivered an inspiring talk on the intricate theme of PATTERN and its critical role in the world of cyber security.

Rishi shared his fascinating insights into how PATTERNS in human behavior create both vulnerabilities and opportunities to catch cyber criminals. He explained how recognizing these patterns can help in identifying and preventing cyber threats, turning potential weaknesses into strengths. His captivating stories of real-world cyber security challenges and successes left attendees with a deeper understanding of the significance of behavioral patterns in maintaining digital safety.

We had an incredible morning at Creative Mornings Hong Kong as we explored the fascinating topic of "Native" with our esteemed speaker, Gordon Mathews. As an Emeritus Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mathews brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the discussion, captivating the audience with his insights into culture, identity, and globalization.
