welcome to me editing wedding rings onto deancas but i don’t care which hand the ring is supposed to be on
this is a call-out post for myself
I have this problem of getting way too attached to spn side characters that will inevitably die
Samandriel, Kevin Tran, Charlie, and that mind controlling kid Andy...
Imagine the conversation going down at the CW today
when sam’s like “you were mourning like a widow and now you’re all happy, what’s up” and dean says “i said i needed a big win. cas is back, that’s a pretty damn good win”, the face sam makes right after is amazing
The shot is being filmed from the inside of the closet! And Sam is closing the doors like okay he’s not ready for THAT conversation, it will stay in the closet a little longer.
IM SCREAMING
this scene is so underappreciated
I mean it's Jack wearing the trenchcoat
that's a blessing for my eyes..
holy crap this is INCREDIBLE
okay this is the real finale for me now
When people who gave 10* reviews about 15x20 were asked why exactly they liked it, their answer almost always was: "Well, Dean and Sam were there... and that was nice."
When people who gave 1* reviews about 15x20 were asked why exactly they disliked it, their answer was:
i don’t think the cw understands that had they made destiel completely canon i would be throwing my money at them like a recently divorced 50 year old man at a strip club

Why 15x18's Confession is Brilliant
I've watched this scene far too many times since it aired, and every time i notice something new. But here's something a little different for you:
We've seen this scene before.
Don't believe me? What if i told you that we have someone, confessing their love for dean, while dean can't respond, earlier than Despair?
Enter, In My Time of Dying (2x01).
Context is important here: Dean still greatly looks up to John at this point. He would do anything for John to be proud of him.
Our scene: Dean, after having a close encounter with death, is left to have an emotional conversation wherein he must listen to them pour their heart out, before losing someone he cares about.
Sound familiar?
The Scene in 15x18 hits every emotional beat of 2x01, and hits it 10x harder for good measure.
"I just want you to know that I am so proud of you." // "You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know."
"This really you talking?" // "Why are you telling me this now?"
"It's really me." // "You changed me, Dean."
"Why are you saying this stuff?" // "Why does this sound like a goodbye?"
"I want you to watch out for Sammy, okay?" // "I love you."
"You're scaring me." // "Don't do this, Cas."
"Don't be scared, Dean." // "Goodbye, Dean."
Sept. 28th, 2006 // Nov. 5th, 2020
Not to mention that Dean's leitmotif cuts off in similar ways in both scenes, thus further signalling his loss. (Expanded on here)
It's no wonder Dean is struggling in 15x18. He knows this rhythm, the conversation beats. Anyone who loves him, anyone who admits it out loud, leaves him. The vulnerability, the desire he shows--he's scared, the first time. Because who is he without John? And in the second occurance, he's already seen this scene play out. He knows how it ends. And all he can muster is a feeble 'Don't do this, Cas,' because the last person who did it left me.
Just like last time, he doesn't get the chance to say anything truly meaningful until it's too late.

Why the ending of Supernatural is problematic - the meaning of storytelling
Originally, I wanted to write a full essay on this and I still might, but since the university libraries are closed and I have three other big writing projects at hand, one of which is my final thesis, this might take a while. I still want to share my thoughts about this. A lot of this has been said before, but not yet by everyone. Trigger warning for mentions of suicide and homophobia.
The thing that bugs me most about the whole discussion about the ending of Supernatural is people saying “why do you care so much? It´s just a story.” Storytelling has been a part of human culture for thousands of years, it is something that everyone does and to think that telling stories doesn´t have a function in society that goes beyond entertainment is just plain wrong. Every part of storytelling, be it the actions shown, the words used, the characters involved or the connotations connected with any of the above, have the power to influence the way that the recipients of the story perceive reality. Now let that sink in for a moment.
