unpopular opinion but I don't think there's anything weird or predatory about an innocent friendship

The question is why the fuck is a thirty year old hanging out with a 13 year old if not in their family?? The only other relation that could have them interact is through teacher/student and bring friends like that would be weird as fuck

found family? the kid not feeling safe in their house? the adult wanting to help? family / teacher / school isn't always a guaranteed safe place. should the kid and adult each have friends that are their own age too? sure. but if their friendship is genuinely innocent then I think the problem isn't them but people who project their weird and predatory thoughts onto them

The key word is innocent... How would you know? That wouldn't be your first assumption if a kid in your vicinity tells you they have an adult 'friend' outside of family/found family/family friends right? It sounds okay in theory, in the definitions proposed in the og post, but they will rarely hold irl. Irl it'll be a red flag very soon.

Besides, friendship is based in reciprocity and balance... A thirteen year old can never be that to an adult. The adult will always hold a mentor-like position in that dynamic.

because for this specific poll it specifically said "innocent". sure, in real life, I'd need more context than just someone saying "it's innocent". but this poll is talking about innocent friendships. so I'm gonna assume it's actually innocent. since the poll isn't talking about "what you would think if you saw an adult and a child hang out together and you didn't know them or what the adult's intention was"
