Lush forests and tall trees greeted her as soon as she stepped out of the transports, already loving the place. It was a nice change of scenery from the salt plains of Crait, though Rose knew she and the Resistance weren’t here for leisure. Their work was nowhere near done. But she couldn’t help feeling like exploring the place before jumping back into the role of maintenance worker.

She went to find her friends. Her friends – she had only one prior to meeting them and that was her sister. A stroll didn’t sound like a bad idea. Did it? At least it could take some worry off of their shoulders, everyone seemed more tense than ever. Walking ahead she spotted Rey first, smiling wide as she approached the Jedi and told her of the suggestion. Next thing she knew the two of them were already walking side by side, heading down the path a little ways away from the main base. So many plant life she’d never seen before, all unique and beautiful.

One particular bloom caught her eye and she reached to gently break off the stem from the bush, bringing it close to her face. It smelled wonderful. She wanted to show it to Rey. Turning around she was surprised when her fingers were in her hair, tucking in the same flower behind her ear. Her cheeks were warm out of a sudden.

“Oh! That’s very nice of you, Rey.” She swore she let out a squeal at the end of the sentence. Standing on her tiptoes she returned the gesture, carefully pushing the stem into the strands of dark hair. “Here, let me do it for you too.” Now they both matched and looked rather pretty.

“Don’t say that.” It was firm, but full of care and love, dark eyes peering up straight into hazel ones. The war had taken too many from Rose - her sister, her home, her friends. She couldn’t imagine losing Rey too, even though she was fully aware that there was a high chance either of them wouldn’t make it out alive by the end of the fight. But she had hope. That was what the Resistance stood for since the start, unwavering. Taking the Jedi’s hand in her own, she gave it a light squeeze, her tone softening. “You will. You have to.”

“R-Rey?” Her voice was strained, her body still shaking. Tears stained her face and she couldn’t make them stop spilling. The dream - the nightmare - was so vivid it felt so real. Rose was back on Hays Minor, the First Order was an imposing presence on her homeworld, and she watched Paige got taken away from her. Everything she knew and loved was gone in a blink of an eye. All alone she was stranded in an empty space with no end.

Her sobs must’ve disturbed the other woman from her sleep. She didn’t expect Rey to comfort her, and she had to make sure she remembered to apologize later. But for now, she was glad to have a shoulder to lean on. In a hushed tone, she told her, “Thank you.”
