Working with a trusted custom orthotics maker
Are you thinking about getting yourself custom orthotics? When you do, there are things that you should consider before purchasing them especially when you want to buy one online. There are plenty of scams online and you would not want to fall victim to one of these. Make sure you go through a trusted website or listing that can get you the customized orthotics that you need.
So how can you determine a true custom orthotics? It’s the one that matches your foot’s arch height, width and the length. The shell should be able to reach up to your metatarsal heads with the heel that is cupped perfectly around. When you go for orthotics, a laboratory should receive a negative impression. There’s a first and second impression that is either scanned with a 3 dimensional laser or even filled with plaster.
Once the impression has been scanned the visual image of the foot can be created. A virtual software is used when correcting and balancing the virtual foot. When the correction is done it is milled by a C & C machine that creates a positive out of wood. Legitimate laboratories do this process today in countries which can afford the C & C machine. But then are also other types of correction or balancing such as the traditional plaster. There is a foam impression that is copied by pouring the plaster inside when this plaster finally hardens you can get your “positive” which has more plaster added or taken away depending on the changes which are needed for the foot.
When the positive has been created, the plastic is then held up and pressed onto a positive cast. The technician then grinds the orthotic down and then adds the heel posts wither intrinsically or extrinsically before putting the top cover. This process itself can take for almost two days.
It’s important that you should be aware of the claim that the ft molds into the orthotic as well as those that claim they are heat activated to copy your foot since they can be scams. There are other scams such as flexible orthotics that flatten out when you wear them, even if your foot needs to flex but it doesn’t mean that very flexible materials do not exactly give you the desired results. Flexible material is used because the customer would not think to complain because the orthotics does not necessarily cause discomfort but the original symptoms that usually persist.
One key feature of orthotics is that it that they should have some rigidity with them the entire point was to provide support. Those soft materials would just collapse, but a real customized orthotic will change the way that your foot will react during the Gait cycle. Look for one that you can trust that use material and labor and has the right credentials.
