Give me BOTH of them suspecting a little bit more about the other’s sexuality based on how others interact with them. Mike may not have the words for it but I think he wakes up back in his body just with. stronger feelings. like ohmygoshohmygish. Imagine if they both convince themselves it’s a dream or something when they switch back?? So when they actually go and visit they can’t talk about it but all the tension is like x10000000????

“How long?” Regulus demanded furiously as he stormed up to his brother in the corridor, shoving his shoulder in frustration.

Sirius, though, used to Regulus’s antics, just grinned lightly as he stumbled. “Odd question to ask a family member, mate. Taking after our parents already? M’not interested, but maybe Narcissa or Bella–”

“Fuck off,” Regulus growled, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms. “How long have you been teaching Potter to speak French? Be honest, Sirius, it’s bloody important.”

Sensing Regulus’s distress, Sirius let out a little sigh and shrugged. “Dunno, Reg. A few months? He wanted to surprise you, I thought it was disgustingly sweet, you know him. Why, you’re actually mad about that? Dunno what he sees in you, to be hon–”

“Of course it’s sweet!” the younger boy hissed, throwing his hands in the air and turning away. “He’s always sweet! But Salazar, I didn’t know he could understand–” he cut himself off, pacing a bit in agitation.

Sirius broke into an amused grin. “Wait. You’ve been saying things, thinking he didn’t…what did you say?”

Regulus turned to him, biting his lip over and over, seemingly terrified to say it out loud in front of someone he knew would understand. “Je t’aime. Je t’aime tellement que ça me fait peur.”

Of course, Sirius could have made another joke, but he decided to take pity. This was too important. Wincing, he asked softly, “When did you say that?”

Now Regulus slumped over. “Yesterday,” he whispered.

Then, everything clicked all at once, and Sirius let out a hollow laugh.

“This is not the time for laughing, Sirius! I–”

But he cut off his brother’s furious rambling with a hand in the air. “I’m not laughing at you,” he explained, a smile forming over his face. “Just…that explains why he asked me this morning how to say ‘I feel the same way’ in French.”

Regulus’s shocked grin was blinding.

In the end it’s Sirius who moves away first. 

Regulus would have never expected it. Always thought between the two of them it would be him that would leave the country and try to start over elsewhere, where no one knew him and his past couldn’t haunt him. Sure, Sirius had left before, but that had been different. He’d had a different past to cling to, a different present to welcome him. 

He doesn’t have any of that now. 

He’s not entirely sure it’s Sirius’ decision either. From what Regulus knows his brother and Remus got into an awful fight, not long after everything happened. Sirius needed justice, wanted to kill the man who had cursed James, was ready to go to prison for it if necessary. 

Regulus gets it. 

Remus didn’t. 

Regulus is fairly sure the move was Remus’ demand, to bring some distance between Sirius and prison. Between Sirius and murder. Between Sirius and James. 

The distances it would bring between Sirius and Regulus no one had thought to consider.

Headcanon that Effie always used to make Christmas cookies and James loved them, especially the thumbprints. One day he comes into the kitchen to see Harry standing on a chair while Regulus directs him to press his little thumbs into each cookie, and he melts on the spot. Later, when he tries them, it’s just like Effie is still there with them.

I like to imagine that Will and Mike used to hold hands literally all the time as little kids. Maybe even kiss each other on the cheek because Joyce used to do that to Will and so he assumed you just did that to people you loved. they only saw it as showing love and they loved each other. That’s all they knew. They’d hold hands when going to the playground, when they felt scared, or just when walking somewhere. They only stopped when people started giving them weird looks and they realized it wasn’t “normal.”
