i really want to create a mood board for a couple of my fics, but i genuinely have NO idea where to start
you're really good at making them... could you tell me about your process?
I’m glad you think I'm good at them lmaoo, bc genuinely all I use is pinterest shuffles and sheer willpower 😭I try to use a template of some sort so it’s easier to organize??, these two are my favorites to use:
(the starbursts add extra whimsy trust ;)
Besides that I feel like searching for images is the hardest and largest part for me, especially for more specific aesthetics. Like the scene lesbyler thingy I made took a while because there’s a bunch of y2k and scene pins out there ofc, but only a select few really screamed “lesbyler” so for that I tried to avoid just searching for a general aesthetic and focused more on individual things if that makes sense?? I researched a very tiny bit about 2000s scene fashion and eventually realized that I really wanted Michelle to have a blue raccoon tail, which was much easier to search for than just “early 2000s emo hair” lol. Same for the cheetah print for Willow and the little squiggly drawings that I gave them both. In general I feel like for me it’s easier to go general aesthetic -> specific things you want to include that are unique to whatever you’re creating a mood board for
Other than that I kind of struggled with diversity of images that I included at first, so while looking up my general aesthetic I tried to take note of a variety of different elements to include. For my lesbyler moodboard that was like hair, makeup, clothing, activities, things like that. So maybe for a fic I would want an image of the setting it takes place in, a few vibey photos that reveal the atmosphere of the fic, pictures that kind of remind you of Mike/Will (or whoever lol), and like a specific object that’s unique or important for the story?
Color is also mildly important if you care about things like that, but I try not to worry about it too much, because usually I can judge well enough that, like, a bright pink image might not look how I want it to next to something that’s muddy green. I sometimes pick 1-2 colors that i want to go for and tack them onto the end of my searches to avoid getting a bunch of images that clash badly. Also, sometimes I think adding the general aesthetic you’re going for after your specific search helps because usually then the results are more similar to each other both in style but also probably color too
After you have the photos you wanna use I it’s fairly easy to do the rest bc Pinterest shuffles is pretty easy to navigate imo. Unless I have a very specific photo that I need to include from somewhere, I generally don’t save the pics I wanna use to my device, and instead just add them while I’m in the actual Pinterest shuffle interface (or wtv you wanna call it). Usually it’s better for my phone storage but it’s not that important a step so honestly just do whatever you want to lol
I think that’s all the advice I have, tysm for the ask again!! :)
