i drew my courier again! it looks so much better this time. i swear my art style fluctuates from day to day.

this is Laluna O'Dyra, she's a former assassin from Megaton who travelled all the way to the Mojave seeking the glimmering paradise promised in Vegas. she got more than she bargained for.

the bullet to the head really fucked her up; she suffers from "face-blindness", which means she can't recognize human faces. the only way she could recognize Benny was that stupid fucking coat. she's also unable to write.

i've been working on this character for like ever and it's so good to have a drawing of her that's decent, so i'm showing her off ( ꈍᴗꈍ)

i think ive mentioned this before but wasteland food is so boring lmao. where are the recipes for brahmin tongue? or deathclaw feet? you could just probably cook it like chicken feet, yknow - just clean it and boil it for a long-ass time, maybe marinade in sunset sarsaparilla, fry with some jalapeño peppers… and considering how huge deathclaw feet are, you could feed a whole group with just one. yum

also i bet there are people who make a living by smoking meats/turning it into jerky bc who has time to hunt for fresh meat while on the road, right. and they could sell it in this little roadside restaurant alongside some hot meals and meat that you can get grilled to order right then and there.

maybe they have some red lucy-type deal where, if you bring them fresh meat, you get caps + all your meals there for free - and they have such a huge selection of meals that a lot of people take on the offer. and they have a recipe/use for everything, be it brain or feet or stomach lining so no part of the animal goes to waste. all of those recipes are guarded secrets tho, so don’t even think of asking for them

ooohh I’m imagining most of the companions know how to live off the land without much hassle (Lily just eats things raw. Against everyone’s better judgment Veronica tries a chunk of raw gecko too and swears up and down that it’s fine but Boone saw her spit it out). They know that deathclaw meat isn’t great but their eggs are to die for (some times literally), and gecko tails are packed with fat. Cazadores are high in protein, Lakelurks are good for most other vitamins (especially the eyes). They know how to separate the venom from Nightsalkers, collecting the blood to mix into a slurry with flour that can be cooked over fire into a rough travel cake. but Arcade is a soft boy. Arcade never gets his hands dirty, he never touches a fresh kill. No, he takes no part in the butchering, but he’s read books. He’s memorized the recipes. Half of his medical knowledge comes from the understanding of what a low flame does to agave flesh and juice. It also happens to taste goddamn good sliced in with tender chunks of mole rat. He can substitute pre-war ingredients; pork and chicken with rat and gecko. Yeast and flour made into crude breads, gingerly chewing it in case of splinters since he kneaded the dough on a rickety workbench. Fresh vegetables still pop up from time to time, and what they can’t trade for, they can use what they find in the wasteland. 200-year-old soda for the base of a sauce raised some eyebrows but once it was done, there were no objections - and there were no leftovers. Whenever they camp in a township for several days he sets up a slow cook with all their old ingredients and meats, and leftovers can be traded for fresh things, ammunition, skinning knife repairs. He knows how to cook everything imaginable that pre-war could teach him, and nobody cares that he has no people skills, because he can and does keep their flesh and bone together with stitches and stews. He won’t touch a kill because his hands weren’t built to rend flesh, to cut limbs from bodies, but he can make something new from the broken; if that new thing is a hearty roast from a pack brahmin who could no longer walk, there were no complaints. (But even he can’t explain why iguanas and squirrels are only ever seen in their cooked and skewered form, never any living animals)
