Happy Feast Day Saint James the Greater Died c.44 Feast day: July 25 Patron of veterinarians, equestrians, furriers, tanners, pharmacists
St. James, son of Zebedee was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He was a son of Zebedee and Salome, and brother of John the Apostle. He is also called James the Greater to distinguish him from James, son of Alphaeus, who is also known as James the Less.

Pope Leo XIIIâs prayer to Saint Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
Saint Michael, pray for us.
Because youâre in a European-style church, yo. Christian art depeicts Jesus and the other Biblical figures as whatever the race of the artist/region is. Donât believe me?
Hereâs a Chinese painting of the Baptism of Christ:
Here is a Native American painting of the Nativity:
Hereâs a painting of Jesus giving a sermon by a Kenyan artist:
And, lastly, hereâs a European painting of Jesus healing the blind:
If you live in a country or region where the culture is primarily European, expect to have that reflected in the art you see.
I love this post.
Can confirm. Here in Japan, churches are full of Asian Jesusâ.

which religion did you convert from? what drew you to catholicism first?
Actually I was an atheist/agnostic but I grew up going to a family episcopal church. I donât know if I was really religious as a child I just liked my church bc I sang in the choir. When I was like 16 or so I just kind of stopped caring, and when I was in my early 20s I was an atheist.
I think I was 24 thatâs when I started to become religious. And I wanted to start going to church every Sunday. So I started going to different churches every Sunday bc I wasnât sure yet which church I wanted to join. But since I grew up going to an episcopal church I was kind of leaning towards either that or Catholicism since it was kind of similar.
I chose the church I go to now bc it was only a 5 min drive lol. When I started going I really didnât think I would officially join I just wanted to go to any church once a week. But then I started to follow more and more Catholic bloggers. And watch Catholic YouTubers.
https://youtu.be/PscwvMDR-t0
I think it was this video I watched first and it just opened my eyes a lot. So I recommend watching it if youâre curious :). All the points she makes is pretty much why I made my decision.
And also another reason I decided was bc how welcoming everyone at my church is. I would go alone most of the time since my family is not Catholic. My father dislikes Catholicism. So it was nice to have the members be so friendly towards me and treat me like family. Especially once I started RCIA I became very close to the Priest and Deacon. This is the reason why I feel bad for wanting to start attended another church that has traditional Latin Mass but I think I really need to.
I also recommend watching Dr. Taylor Marshall on YouTube. Heâs the reason drawing me towards attending Latin Mass.

I am also still learning. I feel like RCIA didnât really prepare me 100%. So I recommend following these bloggers for any questions since their blogs have helped me âșïž:

When I was 14 and inhabited different corners of the internet, I would from time to time have persons older than me say to me such things as this:
âYouâre only 14, youâre only a Christian because your parents are.â
âYouâre only a brainwashed child.â
âWhen youâre older and you can think for yourself, youâll understand that creation is a myth and evolution is true.â
âI guarantee that in a few years when you grow up youâll be taking all of this back.â
To those people I would like to say one thing: I still serve the same God and He doesnât change.
To all the 14-year-old defenders of the faith I would like to say: Learn. Know. Believe. Grow in wisdom and learn to temper your responses. Donât give up.
Totally agree with this

O Virgo splendens, from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, a late medieval manuscript of pilgrimage songs.
O Virgin, shining brightly, on this high serrated mountain, with splendid miracles all around, where the believers from everywhere ascend, Ah, with your gentle loving eye behold those caught in the bonds of sin, that they not be vexed by the blows of hell but be called among the blessed by your prayer.

Today is her feast day.
Virolai (hymn dedicated to Virgin of Montserrat)
