Hello, I am considering applying however after reading all of your informational pages and answered asks I'm left with a couple small questions. We should be writing both characters participating in the application chat log including the one our applied for character is speaking with, yes? And what are the limitations on off campus jobs? Thank you for your time. I apologize if these have been answered somewhere for all my searching I could not find said answers if they already exist.

Hi there, 

When writing the chat log, you can handle the second character in the log in one of two ways. You can either write the part of both characters or you can write a one sided conversation because the person your character is talking to is not responding or not online. Most people choose the former, but we have seen the latter on a few occasions. The main point of the chat log is to get a feeling for how you portray the character you are applying with in interactions with others. So please don’t worry, your application will not be judged on the characterization of the second character in the chat log.

As for off campus jobs, there are not many limitations. It just needs to make sense for your character to work at the location and fit with the lore. Off campus jobs are also something we can discuss upon application. 

Hopefully this answers all of your questions, but please do not hesitate to reach out for clarification. I would be more than happy to talk with you via skype or through the tumblr messaging system.

Thread and Open Post PSA

Are you looking for ideas to make new threads and opens starters about, but simply cannot find the creative outlet you desire? The staff at The Crocker Institute have a few ideas to help spur your creative juices, such as:

- Looking at the “extracurriculars” page and making a thread based on the clubs and groups your character is part of. Or not part of. Sometimes people will sneak into club events for free snacks.

- Check your characters’ room assignment and hit up their dorm neighbours and roommates for threads. Close quarters antics at your service.

- Talk to Admin Oh Joy or Admin Ding Dong for thread ideas. These ladies are chalk-full of creativity and silliness, and would more likely than not brainstorm ideas with you.

- Investigate our “jobs” page to see where people work at, and potentially make threads based on the creative and amusing venues some people have jobs at. From Cat Cafés to Oddity Shops all the way down to Mod Shops, you can always find somewhere someone is in a terrible uniform or completing a degrading task for the sake of a pay check.

- Look into our “majors” page and make up a class setting for your character. Education is the forefront of The Crocker Institute, and we appreciate it when students don’t shirk their academic responsibilities.

- Look towards Derse and Prospit for short trip ideas. Both artificial moons are actually planetary stations, and are only an hour shuttle trip away from Skaia.

Crocker Institute

Hello Everyone!

Here at Crocker Institute we pride ourselves on providing an elite education for the future generations of the galaxy.  We employ only the finest and brightest of people as our faculty, while providing many more jobs by hiring on a wide variety of individuals.  Our students range from high school to college level, with our high school classes supplying the building blocks needed for higher education and our university offering a wide variety of majors.  

Nestled in the habitable zone of the solar system, Crocker Institute is located on an artificially created planet named Skaia, which was modeled on Earth.  Skaia orbits the Sun on the same path as Earth, but is located directly opposite from the parent planet to avoid gravitational interference.  Skaia is a hub for education for people of all ages and from all different planets, but only the best of the best learn and work at Crocker Institute.  

We provide our students with access to unique resources and opportunities that cannot be found at other institutions.  Our graduates find themselves ahead of the curve when vying for jobs due to the work and research experience available to them while attending our institute.

Do you tend to let people know if their application's been refused? Or should silence be interpreted as a refusal? Sorry, I don't mean this to sound rude, I just want to know what to expect if I decide to apply! Thanks!

We do send out rejection letters yes, however sometimes it takes a while for all the mods to get together do to various things like, jobs, school, life. So it may take some time for there to be a majority on the application. Silence tends to be a ‘we don’t know yet’, we try to be pretty quick about this sort of thing though. -Py

will any of the other characters be open? (ex. hal, lil cal, etc.)

No. We will not be accepting applications for anyone other than those who are shown on the character list.

Asking to be someone else is one of my pet peeves with how often it happens. -Py

When I say that your application need not reflect your character I say it for a reason, more often than not people seem to finish these applications very quickly, lord knows I’ve hammered out an app in five minutes before, but the thing is that isn’t very long to think on your character. Some of my best ideas come hours later joking around with friends, I still get ideas just from making jokes with the other admins.

Characterization is a very fluid thing but there is a right and a wrong way to do it, your application all and all should show us your mastery of this character, the time you have put in to understanding the subtle ins and outs of how they talk, their opinions on others, what makes them special, and also your creativity with these characters, as that is something I value highly in applications, creativity is something that warms the blacked void where one would assume a soul is.

The point is I don’t want to force someone down to something they wrote up in five minutes when they have a better idea just waiting to shine through.

hey! im working on a character application right now. when you ask for relatives, what do you mean? all of my character's canon relatives are open spots, so am i supposed to determine what those characters' relations are to him, or come up with an unrelated family so it doesn't collide with future peoples' characters, or?

Generally that is between you and the other potential future rpers, we really dont mind either way, nor do we find others mind. We just know certain people wish for their muses to be unrelated. The apps do not have to be totally canon to the character in the rp anyway, they are purely for reasons of acceptance of denial. -Py
