Ive had some fantastic photos come through from @leedeenee of the frame I build for him last year; it is without a doubt one of the most interestingly prioritised bikes I’ve ever seen, Dylan and I spent a lot of time planning what was really worthwhile, and going to make a difference, and scrapping what wasn’t essential to his riding or enjoyment of the bike. The #customcarbonshoes are rolling, and people have been asking about them a lot! I really appreciate the interest. I’ve spent about 3hours in them total, so have only limited news to report; They’re very comfy! Room and the shape works (no huge surprises there). They don’t feel bendy or fragile once clipped in and are reassuring underfoot. they make a bit of a racket, rattly and rigid with nothing to dampen the sound. The laces & tip plate aren’t ideal, the whole shoe is a pain to get off and on but is OK for special occasions. The final weight on my baking scales is 187g and 186g for right and left respectively. I’m pretty nervous about breaking one just walking to my bike, or standing up after putting them on. Do I think they a game changer? No. could custom carbon shoes be a game changer? Definitely; someone who really knows the layup process and can do it easily and quickly enough to iterate ALOT could really get somewhere. Am I interested in being that person? Not right now. @siftyjohn ‘s bike, when it was first painted metallic silver, with the light up decals, was probably the best looking thing I’d ever made. And I was really stoked it was going to someone I love so much, and get to see so often. Alas, the paint didn’t last, something in the sparkle oxidised a lot and the metallic particles began rubbing off and the frame began rusting.
