They say home is where the heart isā¦but thatās not where mine lives!
ā Things around you are constantly going to change. Nothing is permanent. The only permanent thing we have is ourselves, so make sure you love and accept yourself ā
Paddington (2014) // Lover (2019)
And youāll save all your dirtiest jokes for meā¦.
stick with me, iām your queen like a tenessee stella mccartney āØ
her voice gets me every single time in āI thought you were leading me on, I packed my bags left Cornelia street before you even knew I was gone, but then you called showed your hand turned around before I hit the tunnel, sat on the roof you and Iā it goes from defensive and protective of herself to emotional about her lover calling then nostalgic about the memory of sitting on the roof together the absolute range of it all
āi love you, aināt that the worst thing you ever heard?!ā he looks up grinning like a devil
i canāt get over how much i love this? like? she admits she loves him after the whole summer of being terrified of it and terrified of losing him because of it.. she finally explodes after holding it in... and he just.. smiles at her. smugly. like. āyou love me? am i supposed to be mad?ā GOD thatās such a moment! such a moment!!!! iām obsessed
afterglow is so mature and so important because it takes a lot to step up and take the blame so you can make up with someone you care about and the fact that taylor put it in a song shows how much she has matured and wow i will never shut up about it okay?
1989 ā³ Lover
(2/2) āIn honor of fever dreams, bad bad boys, confessions of love on a drunken night out, Christmas lights still hanging in January, guitar string scars on my hands, false gods and blind faith, memories of jumping into an icy outdoor pool, creaks in floorboards and untraviolet morning light, finally finding a friend, and opening the curtaind to see the clearest, brightest daylight after the darkest night⦠We are what we love. This is Loverā.
Coraline is coming out from under the covers to tell you that Lover is out and you should go get it/stream it āØš¹
Religious Imagery Invoked in Lover
First religious allusion comes with track two: Cruel Summer.
āDevils roll the dice, angels roll their eyesā
āBreakable heavenā
āSnuck in through the garden gate ⦠just to seal my fateāĀ
āHe looks up grinning like a devilāĀ
A track about temptation. The summer fling isnāt something that an āangelā would take a chance on. In the climax of the song the narrator āseals [her] fateā by ā[sneaking] in through the garden gateā ā sheās doing something that she shouldnāt be doing, and using that symbol of a garden in a song with references to heaven, devils, angels, etc. I donāt think it is a leap to recall Garden of Eden and Original Sin temptation stories. The love interest is equated to a ādevilā. By the end of the track listeners have no idea if the narrator was tricked by a devil/snake in the garden to behave a way she shouldnāt have ā to pursue this summer fling.
