Eridians, on average, are 50 cm (19.7") tall. Adrian is a tall Eridian, they're huge! They're the equivalent of a 6'5" (195.5cm) human being!

Rocky, however, is shown in the movie to be closer to 80 cm (31.5"). This is astronomically large. This is the equivalent of an alien's first contact with humanity being a guy who's casually NINE FOOT ONE (280cm).

I was reminded that the in-universe author of A Sermon on Cavaliers and Necromancers is wonderfully named M. Bias ... and was suddenly hit with the cursed realization that Bicycle is a perfectly valid Second House arithmonym.

Thinking about more now... Biped... Bigamy... Binary... Bisexual...

New challenge give me your worst valid arithmonyms, for any House. We must strive to outdo M. Bias and Dr. Sex.

I don't know if they are worse than Bias or Sex, but Atta is eight is swedish and therefore a valid Eighth House name (and my personal pick for Mercy's) and I'm pretty sure that Triste (sad in spanish) should be a valid Third House name :)

Wait wait wait I just realized. It feels like a lot of people assume Paul is male or at least assume he/him pronouns for them, presumably because their name is Paul, which is traditionally masculine. (Possibly also because it's so close to Pal? But that's just a guess.)

But. Our... Our main character. is a young woman. named Gideon. Who yeah is very butch but still uses she/her and was given this traditionally masculine name at birth.

Why is they/them nonbinary Paul any more surprising?

(Babs is also traditionally a feminine nickname, and Muir once did an interview about Lyctorhood as genderfuckery, but yeah! Tbh I hope we get even more gender weirdness before the series is over. 😌)

No, no, you see, there is this line from chapter 31:

' "Paul," said Pyrrah, desperately, but Paul had already transferred his attention from the old man to Nona. '

And I think about it more than I should. Because Paul is referred to with a lack of pronouns in relation to other characters (I have not counted numbers, but when they are doing something, they are generally referred to by their name) and when pronouns are used, they are generally plural, but the plural is not only in third person but also in first person (we), but they also use singular first person (I), but there is also the line above...

Like, is it as is with the first-person pronouns and they just... use multiple? Do they use they/them but also he/him because they were Pal at some point and therefore already tried it and know they are okay with it? Would they also be okay with she/her because they were Cam and she used those? It is a temporary thing as they figure out what they like?

Too many questions, too few answers....

I mean, in universe having some kind of martial training seems relatively common (dueling academy is a thing, to postulate for the Cohort even if you get rejected would seem to be like...a normal thing to do career-wise?), so...the chances of picking a random civilian and them knowing to use some kind of weapon are not terrible. Our hypothetical cavalierless Lyctor could even have a decent security system and just...have to live with an inconvenient weapon and average combat skills

#if you are just choosing some random from the fourth or the second i think the chances of proper-weapon-knowledge are pretty high #you might not get something cool #but being good at Standar Weapon is better than nothing

Sadly, I my artistic abilities don't run to doing a mawkish technicolour Jod painting with flying skull cherubs and J J Abrams lens flares, which is probably the actual aesthetic of Nine Houses devotional art...
