It's good to open up to new people.
Staying in a safety bubble leads to stagnation and lack of creativity.
It's good to be challenged a little bit.
Roleplaying is more about writing stories with people amd playing pretend in the same place than showing off.
It's funny to play around with canon.
Gatekeeping is the death of fun and creativity.
Sticking to rules to closely leads to boring situations.
You should always try to interact with everyone in group sessions. Not just your friends and mutuals.
Branching out will eventually pay off with fun new writing partners.
Don't let bad people spoil things for you.
Set boundaries and expectations early on.
Learn to speak up when a rule of yours is ignored.
let me give you kids some advice: if your friend group frequently shuts you down when you express your negative feelings about something or seems to stop listening if you ever talk about a negative experience but when someone else in that group is allowed to vent or complain without a consequence, that is a warning that these people do not care about you.
If they frequently forget or ignore your birthday but remember and celebrate others in that group's birthday : They do not care about you.
Friends care about their friends. Boundaries of venting too much and using your friends as a therapist are bad, but your friends should be able to express that they don't like that.
But if they let other people do it but not you, chances are that they only let the other people do it because they consider those people friends. They don't consider YOU to be their friend.
