This post isn't about me. It's about you. Well, some of you. And just like honey, this post is raw and unfiltered.
It's comical to me just how predictable some people are. Every time something *positive* happens that could help move our community forwards, a small group of people always insist on dragging us all backwards.
So concerned about protecting *their* personal definition of leather and gender, these are the people who are so quick to exercise their freedom of speech - but only if aimed at silencing someone else. But it makes sense, you see. They're just really scared.
m, They're scared that making room for other people leaves less room for them.
M They're scared that if we change what leather might mean, that their personal definition wont be seen as cool and desirable anymore.
And they're scared that if leather changes, they'll lose their relevance, be cast out, and end up outsiders, once again.
Once upon a time, each and every one of us (myself included) felt like an outsider. And sometimes we all still do. We know what it feels like to be on the outside, wanting to belong. But leather gave us a home and a place to belong. That's what we all really want. So why would you deny that of anyone, especially a person who shares your love of leather?
To be clear: no one is coming for you and your leather. Just like you get to live your leather with pride, so does everyone else. You don't have to like it. Of course you have the right to think and speak your opinion. But it doesn't make it true.
And it certainly doesn't make it kind.
