He has two. The first is the fear of dying without accomplishing anything permanent or lasting. The second is the thought of losing the Raijinshuu, without being able to do a thing about it. That would kill him.

Not that I’ve done a headcanon in forever, but I imagine that his middle name would be ‘Yuri’. The likeness would be enough to give him that.

Was it too soon to hit him? Over the head? More than once? Lucy Ashley was contemplating just that, back to him, eyes scanning the closest individual. Pathetic, gauging how long they could possibly hold her attention – a few minutes max, before she shot a look back over her shoulder.
“No, I don’t. You haven’t exactly made golden decisions in the past, so I have every reason not to.” Still turned away, sighing. “But you’re unfortunately a very hot moron. I’m not too proud to admit that you’re at least nice to look at.” Scowling. She was doing plenty of that, even as her eyes strayed just a moment.
Uncertainty was not something that Laxus felt often. So assured was he of his clout, of his presence, and of his general character that he rarely felt such things like uncertainty. Yet, Lucy inspired that in him. Each second that she spent scanning the ground left him with a wriggling doubt in the pit of his stomach. The smirk on his lips faded, as he wondered, just wondered if she had found it in herself to replace him.
That was a discomforting thought.
Yet, it was a thought that did not last long. He had to swallow a sigh of relief when she had started talking, as he attempted to play it off as if she had never once worried him. He snorted at her scowling, shaking his head in bemusement. “Yeah? It sounds like you’re getting dangerously close to compliment territory. Careful, you just might start feeding that ego of mine.”
In the meantime, Laxus chose to feed his sight, taking a few not-too subtle gazes at her own person. If he was a ‘very hot’ moron, then she wasn’t too bad looking herself.
Yeah, that was the word for it.
A frown drew harshly across her lips. “The person next to you, that’s who I was asking. Not you. You? Fuck you.” The subtlest of tugs to the corner of her lips, when she speaks again. “Your opinion? Not one I value all that damn much.”
Laxus had come to miss Lucy Ashley’s particular brand of affection. Or was it disgust? He hardly knew, but he had come to crave it. When the rest of Fairy Tail had either grown dull, or had grown far too tired of his antics, he was quite glad that there was someone out there that he could prod. In response to her hot-toned reply, the blond drew back, a brief bout of laughter falling from his lips.
“You don’t give a shit about it, huh? That’s funny.” His laughing thus finished, Laxus flashed her a lopsided grin. “I still don’t see you giving that ‘person next to me’ the time of day. Seems to me that you might just value me a bit more than you think. Just a bit.”
“From one to Fuck Me, how damn amazing was that?”
“I’d give it a ‘Foreplay’. It’s not at ‘Fuck Me’ levels, but damned if it isn’t getting there.”

Listen, I’m a lot like cheese. The re-follow gets better with age. Or stinkier. I can’t tell.
It should not be mistaken for an overall distaste of the guild in question. In fact, while her opinion was nothing of great significance, holding little to no weight in the scheme of things, she had no real distaste for the members of Blue Pegasus.
Or rather she mostly lacked an actual opinion, not often caring (or having the time) to get into heavy conversation with any of its members. With the exception of Hibiki whose company she surprisingly did not mind.
Although she supposed that if on the topic of exceptions, Ren would be another, but for completely contrasting reasons. That, of course, was more a matter of personal opinion and general dislike of his surface character. Willing as she was to overlook a great deal, she held no patience or tolerance for deceptive behavior, and found herself with no interest in him on principal alone.
The rest of Blue Pegasus though? It was as much an oddity as the man she’d just found within its walls, Laxus himself, looking as though he’d sacrificed comfort when he was convinced (she assumes) to wear that suit. A bit snug for comfort if she had any say. Words she’d, of course, keep to herself. It was not her position to be prying, after all.
“Errands, mostly. Dropping off a selection of papers and updates from the Kingdom, which I offered to do due to my planned route to an area nearby.”
It was often in search of good grounds to train with Ophichus (as merely summoning him was a difficulty with such grand a size) that she found herself busying herself with minor tasks. Not to distract from a long travel as she was not burdened by the silence or distance (she favored it), but because it was in her nature to be productive even in absence.
Moving to tuck away the varied papers she held in her hand, she could not help but smile, eyes catching the list of assorted meals written in a delicate script. “I was given a list of meals to be expected for the events leading to the upcoming holiday festivities, which as you know will be arranged by Blue Pegasus,” she added calmly, evenly, no mocking in her tone despite her internal amusement.
“Would you like to fill out suggestions for the scheduled meal days?”
Yes, this was clearly the guild suited for his caliber of power. This is the guild that would rise above all others.
There were several things that Laxus had grown to dislike with Yukino. Well, perhaps ‘dislike’ was too strong a word. A better word for it was uneasy, like a shudder that crawled down one’s spine. That was how she could make him feel on a dime, and he hated that. That was the first thing he disliked, the fact that she very much could, and very much did put him on his guard.
The second thing that made him uneasy in regards to Yukino was her thinking. Or, more accurately, the fact that he couldn’t figure out just what went on in that head of hers. Usually, there was some sort of tell that he could pick up on, something that he could associate with a feeling or a thought. But with her? It was like trying to read a text from one of those books imported from the East. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t figure it out, and that made him feel weak.
He hated that feeling, and yet, he was still compelled to engage with her. That was the worst part about all of this. It wasn’t simply a matter of her being attractive, either. While she was, in amounts that the blond considered unhealthy, there was a presence to her. A sort of unspoken charisma that compelled him to keep company with her. This was why he continued to linger here, as even though she rankled him, he couldn’t leave.
He wouldn’t leave.
A soft grunt was his first response to her words. Yukino keeping busy was of no surprise to him, and he suspected that she’d collapse into powder if she had a moment’s respite. Then the ruffling of paper attracted his attention, and in that moment, she spoke. It was those words that rankled his calm, bringing him annoyance that he hadn’t thought possible. He, Laxus Dreyar, a man who had put the fear of god in many a guild, and who might have been a Wizard Saint if not for his attitude, was now reduced to picking out meal days.
To say that this was a step down was to dramatically understate things. The humour of this moment was not lost on him, even if the calmness of her tone indicated that no offense was met. The blond dragged a hand across thelength of his suit, wondering if it would be in good taste to rip it to pieces before her. This was the source of her entertainment, and he’d have none of it.
“Save that for someone else in the guild. That’s not what I’m here for,” he replied, tersely as he ever did. “If there’s food on a day, then I’ll eat. That’s my opinion.”
To sate his deep-seated annoyance, he again recalled why he was here. This hadn’t been done for his benefit, but for the Raijinshuu’s. Taking himself away from that would be a disservice to him, and it was about damned time that he learned to be self-sacrificing.
If only sacrifice didn’t hurt this goddamn much.
“If you’re asking me where and when I should crack skulls, I’ll be the first to sign off on a date and time. For anything else? You’re better off asking anyone else in the guild. Literally, anyone else.”

It had been a quick errand, but a mere passing not meant to give any form of pause to her day. More than the small portion of time it had occupied (the time that would be spent on the trip back not accounted for), it was simple. A few documents to be dropped off and hand delivered to the guild’s Master. She should have been out those doors soon thereafter.
Yet there she was, a pace that had previously been establish, steady, now inconceivable as she stood at the foot of the staircase. As grand as it was, the instalation was far from what had stayed her depature.
There were a few things Yukino prided herself in, her observation skills in the upper tier of that list. While she’d never claim to be an expert in the craft, she took comfort in having a solid base understanding of the people she’d come across.
Then there was Laxus, dressed in the familiar Blue Pegasus attire.
“Forgive my rudeness but this is not where I would have thought to be crossing paths.”
“Yeah? Well, the world’s full of surprises.”
Chief among these surprises, of course, was the appearance of Laxus. When Fairy Tail had disbanded, many had expected him to take to a guild-less life, out of respect for his guild. Or, they had expected him to reform Fairy Tail himself, regardless of what his grandfather had decreed. To the latter, he had decided to bite back on his urges, and for once in his life, he had managed to respect the old geezer.
As for the former?
His gaze flickered away from Yukino for a moment (hard as that was), looking back towards the guild, thinking of only a few people within. If it had not been for the Raijinshuu, he would have lived life as he had before. The life of a wandering rogue had suited him well, for he had the pleasure of calling no man ‘master’. But, when he had looked to them, he knew he couldn’t abandon them. He was just a bit of a softie like that.
So, he had gone to Blue Pegasus, knowing both that he could sate a desire or two of his, and that his Raijinshuu would be accepted. More than that, they’d thrive in their own ways, and it was their development that counted. It was this that made his own set of circumstances bearable, even if his suit was a bit too tight for his tastes.
Tugging at his collar, his gaze was hers once again, shaking his head at their own odd quirks of fortune.
“As it turns out, I just found another guild to drag by the neck to glory,” he offered, hoping, truly hoping that she took his lie at face value. “That’s why I’m here. What about you? Why’re you in my neck of the woods?”

Laxus Dreyar would never let it be said that he wasn’t a man of his word.
“Look at that, you did. I’d be a bit more pissed if I wasn’t so surprised.”
She had caught him in a good mood, and so he was willing to actually be as good as his word. Although he was still a bit reluctant, he removed his coat, handing the magnificent thing off to her. He could practically hear every strand of fabric crying out to him, begging for him not to go! Alas, he was a man of his word, and that meant making hard choices.
“Take it. But don’t make a mess of it. That coat is worth more than you, and I won’t be happy if I see it stamped to the floor. Understood?”
*throws a bucket of water on him because she's bored and he's there*
Up to that point, Laxus had been having a good day. A very good one, in fact. There had been no pests to bother him, and no great woe to shake him away from his usual attitude. Then, there was a particular splash, and a particular coolness slithering down his back. At that moment, his calm snapped, and with a fury, he turned towards said thrower.
“Who had the goddamn ne-”
Only upon realizing who had done this did he pause, just as his desire to fry the interloper ceased. He knew what this was about, he knew that she was trying to provoke something. Lucy had done this for no other reason, and the only way to deny her was to swallow his own pride. This task, of course, was not as easily said, than done.
The first thing he did was uncoil himself, in an effort to make himself look as relaxed as possible. Aside from the occasional twitch, he managed it. The next thing to do was to remove that frown of his, and that…was much more of a struggle. In the end, he stood before her with a half-smile and a twitch, with the stink of damp fur permeating the room.
“Nice try, Lucy,” he tersely began, rolling his shoulders as if she hadn’t just ruined his day. “But you’re going to need to do a lot more than that to get me off my game.”

[Text: 2:28 am] If you’re sending a text at this hour, I expect it to be some good stuff.
The groggy form of the man looked towards his cell phone, and through bleary eyes, he saw quite the sight. It was enough to even make the near-unconscious man crack a smile, noting what he now knew to be Yukino, and a very special guest. Before bringing himself back to sleep, he managed yet a few more words, punctuated by a small smirk, before cosigning himself off to bed once again.
[Text: 2:37 am] You know what? That just might be your masterpiece.

“Yeah. We’ll see about that Zapper. I’ll be wearing your coat and saying all the things everyone else has been thinking, because we know that if you have the coat, you have the power” she teased.
“First Light Bulb, and now Zapper. Is it the lack of alcohol that makes you this creative, or have you been saving all those for a rainy day?” A rumble in the man’s throat was his effort of suppressing a chuckle, as he didn’t want Cana to know just how clever she truly was. “Is that so? Perhaps the coat will make you powerful, but I’m as powerful as ever, with or without it.”

“Then it sounds fair to me. You have yourself a deal” she said. “I can’t wait to wear that coat. I’ve waited a long time. Two weeks more won’t hurt”
With that out of the way, his ego returned, and a lopsided smirk spread across his lips. “I can’t wait to have you shouting my praises from one end of the hall to another. It’s been a while since I had someone like that. Well, someone that’s not Freed.”

“Own me…just a day?” she asked curiously. “You’re not gonna make me do anything that is you know…” she bit her lip to give him a suggestive description.
“Right?”
Cana’s question was a fair one to ask, knowing much about Laxus’ less than cordial attitude. But, he replied with a firm shake of the head, and a disgusted exhale.
“No, I’m not the worst kind of scum. If that happens, then it’ll happen because you want it, not the other way around. For now, I think you fluffing up my ego’s more than good enough.”

The brunette sighed. “Alright, let’s say I don’t make it the two weeks. What do you want. I’m trusting you to choose for me”
That was a good question. It was the sort of question that got the blond to shut up for just a moment, and consider his options. Truly, there was just so much that he could ask of her. “Tell you what, I’ll make it real easy for you. If you don’t make it for two weeks, I own you for just a day. If I tell you to walk, you walk. If I tell you to jump, you jump. If I want you to say ‘Laxus Dreyar is the greatest goddamned man in Fairy Tail’, well. . .you see where I’m going with this, right?”
