There’s been a huge cultural shift and increase in censorship in regards to creativity that people nowadays lack the ability to separate fiction from reality. Artists of anytype cannot create something morally grey without the purity/cancel culture jumping on it saying how bad it is. Society is shifting towards wanting every piece of media to depict the good in man and good morals. But the fact is, life is not perfect. If we don’t have these stories or pieces of art that challenge our moral compass, then we lose the ability to be creative. Art is not made to comfort its viewers. It’s to depict a theme or meaning in ways that arent black and white sentences.
I will use mosercest as an example for this. Personally, I don’t support incest. I wouldn’t partake in it nor would I support it in my personal life. However, in the perspective of something that’s fictional, I do not see anything wrong with it.. even when the media itself derived from has blatant Freudian themes and actually has it within the storyline. GSA (genetic sexual attraction) is a real life phenomenon that happens to family members who have been separated and meet as adults. It is something that we as humans biologically cannot control. The themes of this within the Dexter story line does show this, even though they don’t blatantly mention this, it’s still prominent within Dexter and Brian’s storyline. It’s always been there.
Overall if we continue to disregard the fact that you can separate fiction from reality, then we lose our ability to form opinions and our own general thought of something that breaches the line or morality, causing fear and uncertainty within our day to day lives.
