Fanart for he chased me, and he wouldn’t stop by @michaelswilliam. I hope you like it! Thank you for writing and sharing such a wonderful story! Cannot wait to read the rest!
⚠️ Mild spoilers up to Ch.12– technically I don’t know what’s happened in Ch.12 since it hasn’t been published yet. Really this comic isn’t even speculation—more so fanart of the fic’s overall vibes and the amazingly written, dark dynamic between Vecna and Will in this story. I hope I do the fic’s gothic atmosphere justice here <3
Turn up brightness 😅
I imagine that as Will walks through the forest to the river, some part of him is hoping against hope that there is another explanation for Henry, that everyone’s mistaken, and that his friend whom he’s trusted for months now is not actually the monster who’s been haunting him for years. But then here stands Henry, gleeful, and hiding nothing 🫠
(Please do not repost any part of this comic, thank you!)
(Also posted to ao3 same images)
Putting notes and fun details here. Feel free to skip if you want to keep your personal interpretation free of mine!
Will’s tears have scarcely dried before he arrives at the riverbank c:
Henry’s reflection in the water forms the mindflayer
Henry has a much healthier looking complexion than Will does. Despite Henry being the one who’s a sundered and rebuilt corpse, he’s been thriving and feeding well. Will on the other hand…
The red on Henry’s clothes is either the light from the gate or blood :) He is in fact above the gate, but he’s also fresh from murdering Ted and Karen.
When Henry turns to look at Will, his furthest eye in shadow (the left one) has already lost its light—he’s already droppping his Human guise
When Henry finally sheds his human skin and beckons Will to him, he’s no longer contained by any comic panel. He’s taken full control of the story (Mike, take back the pennnn)
In a similar vein, the vines and tendrils also break the forth wall. They creep into the page as Vecna extends his “invitation,” and when Will “accepts,” they engulf the last panel that holds Will—as Will’s story is now “ended” by Henry (now here comes Mike with the steel chair—)
ok so it might not seem like it but this was a four hour rush job this morning lmao
Happy Birthday Dianxia!
I wanted to paint his portrait like Hua Cheng would! But like more of a current reflection. I pulled outfit inspo from the official New Years /5th Anniversary art and my fav detail is that it goes hand in hand with this quote from the book:
"The Red-Robed Ghost King will dispel all the misfortune enveloping the Scrap Immortal and allow him to reveal his true appearance. You will be shocked to discover that the Scrap Immortal's color isn't dusty white—rather, it is shimmering gold."
