i want to put my thoughts behind this: this was supposed to be a piece for pride month, titled "you were loved". the sky is the color of the aroace flag (just upside down)!

basically, i wanted to show an aroace person — an old aroace person, to be precise. being aroace myself, i am always told that i will forever be lonely and miserable if i don't get a partner. so showing grace, who is aroace to me, as old and happy and fulfilled and oh so loved by his best friend, was really important to me <3

we have to make more women suffer in fiction but crucially not in a man pain way. we have to let women suffer in fiction the way men are always allowed to suffer in fiction. we need women who grieve their male love interests always dying horribly at the hands of the villain of the week the way male action heroes always do. we need women who suffer in ways other than "dying in childbirth" and "abusive male relative". we need women with interiority and depth of character having the worst time of their fucking lives.

This is kinda out of nowhere but something made me think about it. I have a very close friend who is also my ex-girlfriend and it distresses me that every time that information comes to light, I always have to couch my statement that we are very serious friends with a very warm relationship with no lamenting or jealousy or animosity or whatever, and tons of people still remain real weird about us still interacting as friends, or start imagining a coldness to our relationship that doesn’t exist.

It’s insane to me that when you care about somebody and live with and sleep with them for years and then if the living-together and being sexual/romantic element of your relationship comes to an end the only societally acceptable ways forward are to develop a burning hatred for that person or at best never see them again.

Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time.
