i headcanon that bob has brain damage due to a combination of abusing substances from such a young age (12) and repeated head trauma from domestic abuse. the sentry experiments did not fix it and this (alongside his mental conditions) why he struggles with memory, tremors, and focusing/information processing in particular.

of course bucky suffered brain damage too after decades of hydra’s horrific abuse and he picks up on some of bob’s issues because he’s experienced them firsthand. i like to think that it’s something they can quietly support each other with

one of my favorite small details is how yelena flinches and looks away when bob gets hit. her entire life has been violence and she’s been conditioned to show no reaction to it yet she can’t bear to watch bob be hurt even when she has no choice

can someone please explain to me why so much fan content makes yelena so…mean? i have no clue where it comes from. she has a sarcastic sense of humor, sure, but that’s not her only personality trait. she can be short with people when there’s a purpose for it (hawkeye, in the vault, being angry with nat and alexei), but again, not her only personality trait. she is very emotional and sentimental and it’s her empathy that saves the day in thunderbolts. she wears her heart on her sleeve. even when she does lash out in anger you can obviously tell it’s because she’s hurt. she cried because she’s lonely and misses her dad and she makes herself vulnerable by begging bob not to choose val. yet for some reason she is portrayed as a cold bully who’s too cool for anyone and just sits around making fun of people all day

if my mcu rewatch has convinced me of anything it’s that there’s no way in hell the government can find out about bob. bruce banner was hunted, samuel sterns was exploited for 16 years while in custody, and wanda was put in a straitjacket and a shock collar for far less than what the void did.

along with wanting him contained because of how dangerous he is, they’d practically be salivating over him science-wise. so much about his powers and how he even survived is unknown, and his durability alone is invaluable. there’s no way they wouldn’t be interested in replicating some of his powers or at the very least seeing how his body works. it would be really difficult to subdue him, but not impossible since we know that oxe was able to knock him unconscious and get him in that containment crate somehow. so if the government got their hands on him, the best possible outcome would be him in an indefinite coma, while the worst is probably years of inhumane treatment and excruciating medical torture…

and i don’t think anyone would be more aware of this than the thunderbolts, particularly bucky, yelena, and ava for obvious reasons. they would never let that happen to him. i think that’s why they seem to be keeping him so hidden from the public (not officially releasing his name, not including him as part of the team on promotional materials, etc)

i love thinking about bob’s wardrobe post-movie

in the last scene he only has his sweatshirt and corduroy pants to his name, and the only other outfits he wears are chosen for him by other people who even go so far as to dress him while he’s unconscious. with how important clothes and self expression are to yelena so she definitely noticed that he had nothing….and in my mind a trip to the mall was one of the first things they did together just the two of them

i also love the idea of bob wearing his friends old clothes that were given to him like el does in stranger things 💕
